Wei Yun'er's personal maid was right in front of him. "Have you suddenly gone deaf? What were you doing?"
He Yuan held up the cup in his hand. "I just wanted a drink."
The personal maid, Qi Qi, eyed him suspiciously. "If you wanted a drink, why not get it from the pump in the servants' kitchen? It is directly connected to this well anyways, so why did you come here directly?"
Dammit! Why couldn't this girl just mind her own business? Why was she always breathing down his neck like a dragon and watching him like a hawk?
He Yuan coughed. "I grew up in a poor family and we never had a pump. I've been drinking from the pump since I got here but today I was strolling around and came upon the well, i thought it was the same thing and since there were cups right here i thought it was okay to drink. I really didn't mean to offend."
Qi Qi scoffed with a raised chin. "I don't trust you. The coronation and wedding is tomorrow so we can't have anyone spoiling my eldest Miss's special day. Come." She looked to the other maids. "Get a sample from that well and bring him with me to see the eldest Miss!"
He Yuan's pupil's shrunk but he tried his best to remain calm. Wei Yun'er was a medicine genius, it seemed he was going to fail this task. He was really going to be sent off to become a goat.
The little group soon arrived at Wei Yun'er's courtyard and Qi Qi went in to announce their arrival and purpose.
Qi Qi soon returned and He Yuan was led in with the evidence of his 'betrayal'. Wei Yun'er was seated arrogantly and caressing a phoenix crown with her fingers.
She gave He Yuan, who had his head lowered, a deep look before gesturing at the maids to come forward with the bowl of well water.
With a flick of her fingers, the tip of two long silver needles pierced the surface of the fairly calm water and formed ripples.
After retrieving the needles and inspecting it carefully, Wei Yun'er sighed. "Qi Qi, how many times do I have to tell you not to be too rash hmm?"
What? He Yuan was shook. Wasn't she a medical genius of the 24th century? Why couldn't she detect the poison? Wasn't she supposed to be all powerful and insanely over powered? What was this situation?
Qi Qi puffed her cheeks. "Eldest miss, does that mean there is no poison in the water? Not even questionable stuff?"
Wei Yun'er shot the loosed mouth girl a cold look. "So now you doubt my medical skills?"
Qi Qi flopped to the ground and knocked her head against the hard floor. "I wouldn't dare. Please pardon this lowly one for being impetuous and speaking out of turn. I was just worried about the eldest Miss's safety."
Wen Yun'er sighed again. "Silly girl, I have told you repeatedly to watch your actions. Whatever you do or say represents me. What if my enemies end up using your rash behaviour as a sore spot to attack me hmm?"
Qi Qi knocked her head repeatedly as she apologized. He Yuan soon began to flinch at the sound. That would most definitely bruise badly.
"Poor Bai Hong was wrongly accused, what if he develops a shadow because of this?"
Qi Qi got the message and immediately turned to He Yuan although she was reluctant, she still grit her teeth and apologized.
He Yuan just hunched his shoulders deeper and tried his best to look wronged. He glanced up and locked eyes with Wei Yun'er, who was staring at him.
"I have said before. I don't use who I don't trust and I don't doubt who I use." A weird glint flashed across her eyes as she said this and He Yuan quickly looked away.
Did she know something? Did he somehow expose himself? No that's impossible, he quickly calmed his racing heart.
In the end, Wei Yun'er threw a medicinal book to him as compensation and he thanked her profusely before leaving.
As he looked through the pages of the book, he pondered over the earlier situation. Why wasn't she able to detect the poison? It couldn't have possibly been a mistake. Her reputation as a peerless medicine genius in the 24th century was indeed true so what went wrong?
Or was she pretending in order to see what he was truly up to? That also seemed off. If it was when Wei Yun'er newly transmigrated over, then it was quite plausible but at this time, she had already developed her forces. Taking care of a small fry like him was so easy and she didn't need to scheme.
He tossed about in his room but he couldn't figure it out. What was she planning? With nothing else to do, he picked up the book she gave him and focused on reading its contents properly this time.
Wei Yun'er would of course not give out her most precious pill recipes but a few basic recipes and refining methods were listed within.
He compared the information to what was in Wei Luo's memories and the more he read, the tighter his brows became. SMACK! He hit the table in excitement. He'd figured out why she couldn't detect the poison!
Wei Yun'er's was indeed a genius and her methods were legit and advanced but that was exactly where the problem lied. Her methods were too advanced.
There was almost a thousand year difference between now and the 24th century. The medicinal ingredients available in the ancient times would have gone through several mutations and even, possibly, extinction by the 24th century.
At this point, the range of ingredients Wei Yun'er could recognize was limited and she even had to go through several rounds of testing and verification in order to identify some ingredients that seemed remotely similar to those in her time period.
Another limiting factor was that the medicinal ingredients that would have been discovered in between this almost-a-thousand-year period was not small. The 24th century also had amazing technological advancements, hence certain equipment were readily available to ease the pill making process.
The lack 0f these equipment made things harder for Wei Yun'er but as a peerless genius, she could still afford to do without them but how about the ingredients that are yet to exist in this time period? What could she do about that?
The woman was so arrogant that even if truck loads of masters begged to take her in as a disciple for her skills, she blatantly refused. She was from the 24th century! What could these ancients possibly know compared to her from the future?
Xian Taiwen was also a stumbling block. This was his woman and she was so remarkable. How could he let those old cronies take her away? She was so good at attracting bees and butterflies, what if she fell in love with someone out there?!
Wei Luo on the other hand, was also a medicine talent and had been training with his genius master in seclusion all his life. He knew every single piece of ancient medicinal ingredient better than he knew himself and could tell what a pill was made of just from its smell.
However talented Wei Yun'er was, she couldn't possibly surpass a true native when she herself has refused to think like a native!
It was just like Wei Luo transmigrating to the 24th century and surpassing them with his knowledge of ancient medicinal ingredients and refining methods. It was basically impossible. He would never even be able to identify some ingredients in that time period without tutoring!
He Yuan laughed in triumph when he thought things through. His task was becoming easier and easier and it was all thanks to the stupidity of the 'special ones' themselves!
