The day before the next disaster.
Sam as he said took a complete backseat, he only worked on building the formation and that made the work move faster by a dozen times and this time, he is no worried about saving the whole city. He already gave instructions for all the people to be moved to the clan's estate.
The formation around the estate is a dozen times stronger than the city's formation.
The clan members were forced to be stationed in the city. If the outside formation is destroyed, they will be forced to deal with the god and the disasters by themselves.
Sam's beasts are also not getting involved.
Because of this, he had a lot of free time involved. He even set up his barbeque had a good time with the beasts.
At this moment, Sandhya and the clan leader in charge of the city came to them. Both of them are nervous as they looked at how relaxed and smiling Sam is right now.
Before the attack happened in the previous disaster, Sam was very serious with everything. He was strict, cold and domineering. He made everyone feel uncomfortable, but he was constantly interacting with all the formation masters and young masters.
He constantly improved the defense set up and constantly tried to upgrade the plans.
But now, he is just there and did his own part. Even the examination for the other parts is not that strict.
Sam looked at Sandhya and raised his eyebrow in askance.
"You are acting weird."
"How am I supposed to act?"
"You are obviously angry. Why are you behaving like this? If you really want to take revenge on the situation before, find out the person and responsible and punish them as you see fit. Even if you kill him, no one will say a thing as long as you can prove it.
But acting like this is not the right thing. Many people, including civillians are worried. They had their hopes on you to save this disaster. With your inactive involvement everyone is at risk."
Sam looked at her calmly as he placed a steak on his plate. He used knife and fork as he carefully and elegantly cut into it.
"First of all, I am indeed angry. But you don't get to decide or estimate my behavior. You are few lifetimes early to do that. Not to be a narcissist, but I am. I feel it as an insult to even think that you can assume how I would behave when I am angry.
Second, I will find the person and punish them and for that. Not right now. I know when, where and how I should take my revenge. I have killed more people in a year than you have met in your lifetime.
Third, I don't need or want to show you or anyone else on this planet the proof for punishing that perpetrator. If anyone wants that, they can try and make me.
Fourth, I am not responsible for the safety of any civilian, clan member or a person that belongs to this place. My work was purely voluntary and for me the receiving party of this voluntary is the population of this planet.
Population of this planet as in the single entity that I made a deal with it. They will have collective consequences for whatever that was committed against me.
And as I said, they are thinking that they are capable of killing me. So, this disaster should be a piece of cake."
"When did anyone ever try to kill you?" Sandhya said through gritted teeth. Her fists are clenched and she is really ready to throw some hands.
But she knew better than to do that.
"Oh? You didn't understand that? The very fact that these morons tried that stunt means, they should know that I am coming from them. I will come for them. So, they should be confident in killing me if they want to mess with my plans.
And when I come, you will see that I am a hundred times scarier than any god that came to attack these people."
Sandhya gritted her teeth and wanted to yell at him. Sam looked at her and smiled.
"Don't believe me? You will see it soon. Now please leave if that is all you want to talk about."
The clan leader wanted to say something about it, but he couldn't. After all, whatever Sam said is right. This is voluntary and he doesn't have anything on Sam to take something from him. He could only leave dejectedly.
The next disaster came on time.
It is a Goddess this time.
Demeter. Goddess of Agriculture, fertility and harvest.
Sam half guessed when the disaster struck. The city is known for its herb production and the whole area is surrounded by the fields special prepared for these herbs. The attacks of Demeter are very similar to Artemis.
She gave sentience to some plant life form. But instead of to the large trees, Demeter managed to create some herb creatures that grew to the size of a giant tree. Every field has three to four of creatures and they launched attacks that are very simple, but amplified and demonized versions of the effects of their herbs.
Sam took a seat in the middle of the city as he watched different projectiles hit the city formation. One of them is a seed that got stuck on the formation and started growing into it. Some are corrosive things and some are pure physical damage.
But all of them had this slight effect on the formation's energy circulation. Medicine used for soothing is slowing down the energy flow. Medicine with burning energy, is making the energy flare up.
The problem is they are not strong enough and Sam really did stuck to his word of making the formation stronger than before. Since he didn't have to focus on his fight strategy, he didn't mind add a few extra layers.
It is significantly stronger, but not to the point of seeing it as a cheat like advancement compared to the previous ones.
At first, the clan's forces that are stationed in the city as the second line of defense after the formation are very nervous. But as the time passed, and they saw the formation taking care of these projectiles, they became more confident.
But still, they got ready and intercepted these projectiles with their own projectile weapons.
They didn't take the things Sam gave for granted. They tried their absolute best as they fought against the projectiles.
Sam chilled with a glass of wine as he watched the whole fiasco and soon the fiasco turned a bit dangerous.
With the increase in defenders, the attacking projectiles also increased like crazy and no matter how much they tried, they are unable to keep up with the numbers.
Then they had to move to the fields and attack the creatures by themselves. This turned into a closed combat. Many of them were reluctant to do that. Not because they didn't want to fight, but because they had to fight in the fields.
All the plants and herbs they have grown until now are being destroyed by them. They were really heartbroken. They might be mages and warriors here, but they are farmers through and through.
This approach did make them a little bit upper handed, but that didn't last long either.
The creatures that were focusing on a single task before became multi-taskers. They threw projectiles like a crazy kid throwing stones into water. The formation rippled crazily with energy fluctuations.
Sam watched the flashy show of the formation slowly dimming and glowing while finally crack.
He had a smile on his face.
Once a crack appeared on the formation, Demeter didn't want to leave that chance. She just kept directing the creatures to attack that one crack. In the next two minutes, those cracks expanded and…
*BOOM*
You guessed it, the formation broke down completely.
The energy disappeared in a shower of sparkles and that is it. The city is laid bare in front of Demeter and the other creatures.
The estate formation and some high level people from the city and the clan are the only layers between the people and the disaster.
But to Sam's surprise and intrigue, the next wave of projectile weapons were not targeted at the estate area, instead they were focused on the spot that Sam was sitting at. All of them were aimed at him.
Sam raised his eyebrow as he stood where he was. He didn't even move. He just took another sip of his drink as he watched the projectiles closing in.
It attracted the attention of everyone. Many young masters are praying that the attack will land. Just so that Sam would be pissed and he would make a move. They are really desperate. But they were surprised by Sam's reaction.
The projectiles stopped exactly two feet away from Sam. They came from all directions and it is like there is a sphere of two feet radius around him. They just stopped there without moving as if they are floating there from the start.
