Su Qin washed up once she returned to the dorm in the evening. Fetching the clothes from the opened wardrobe, she saw a gift box inside. This was the gift Li Chuan brought back from the USA, which she hadn’t opened up to look at since she was previously busy with military training.
Taking the gift box and the pajamas, she climbed onto the bed, sat cross-legged and started to unwrap the gift box.
It was a simple all white packaging. Inside was a sunscreen lotion, a bottle of moisturizing milk, a pen and a notebook too.
Su Qin took out the notebook and flipped through two pages. Taking the pen from the pencil case, she wrote down her name, Su Qin, on the front page.
However, she didn’t notice a string of neat words written by a man at the bottom right corner on the last page of this notebook.
– Little Su Qin, be happy. (Li Chuan)
It was a leather cover notebook, which was very thick and suitable to use as a diary. Su Qin took out Yun Fei’s photo booth sticker from the pencil case and stuck it on the notebook’s first page.
Is this regarded as youth?
Su Qin intends to use this notebook to jot down some trivial tasks and also use it to scribble some creative inspiration. Although she does not have the ardor to design women’s clothing now, she can note down the styling insight to discuss it with Chen Meixin when she has time in the future.
Having only a 30% stake in Taobao store, Su Qin considers her efforts to be far more than that. If she designs women’s clothing in the future, then she must own at least half of Taobao store’s shares. And the management rights must be in her hands in order to manage the original creativity with confidence.
Taking out a pencil, Su Qin sketched some patterns and then heard Yu Wen speak from the lower bunk, “Su Qin, you say, who the person that Teacher Tang mentioned is ah? Special grant? Also, not qualified to be in Class 1 yet got into Class 1? I’m curious about who it is.”
Yu Wen asked while applying hand cream from the lower bunk.
“It’s probably me.” Su Qin did not hide at all and she didn’t stop her sketching.
“Ah?” Yu Wen was obviously shocked.
Su Qin sighed and said, “I was not qualified to take the exam at first, but the school gave me a special grant. The person Teacher Tang was talking about is probably me. Most likely I didn’t do well in the exam and wasn’t qualified to enter Class 1, but because of my perfect essay, I was valued by Teacher Tang who brought me into Class 1.”
Yu Wen obviously didn’t expect her to be so straightforward. She has been the class monitor since she was a child and most dislikes those students who hold the class back.
If it was before the military training, she would surely loathe Su Qin to death, but now, she only feels worried about her.
Yu Wen frowned and stated the fact, “Then you are done for. Our Class 1 is ranked highest besides the Whizz Classes. I’ve seen the exam admittance results of everyone except you. Do you know how many points difference between the last place in our class and the last place of Whizz class?”
“Huh?”
Yu Wen told her, “8 points.”
Su Qin was shocked by the points’ disparity, which showed how competitive it was.
Yu Wen added, “Moreover, the learning progress of our Class 1 is similar to that of Whizz classes, so you should be mentally prepared for this too. If the one Teacher Tang mentioned was really you, then you are in danger.”
Su Qin’s chest felt suppressed. Immersing in the geniuses’ world made her feel extremely pressured.
Even though she was rebirthed, she had only spent a brief few months reviewing her junior school’s knowledge. Moreover, she had slackened off after the exam as she was busy with Taobao during the summer vacation and simply didn’t study at all.
During the evening self-study just now, Teacher Tang had already let her off gently.
She had left school for a long time and also had no concept of the evening self-study. As an adult, she has almost forgotten the harsh system and pressure of her school days.
Thinking of this, Su Qin felt ashamed again and also felt a little sorry for Teacher Tang and Li Chuan.
Meng Sisi came back from the bathroom after washing up. Putting down the basin and climbing up the iron bunk, she comforted Su Qin when she saw Su Qin’s solemn face, “Su-su, come to Class 12 if you really can’t do it. How wonderful would it be if I, you and Yun Fei are in the same class ah?”
Su Qin had even more headaches thinking about Yun Fei. What to do after all to make Feifei mingle with the group faster?
The dormitory lights were turned off. The dorm-supervising aunt called out in the corridor when she patrolled the building, “Sleep ah. No one is allowed to talk. If I hear anyone in whichever dorm is talking, the whole dormitory will not sleep but to come out and be punished to stand for half an hour before going back to sleep! 306, who is talking? Come out! Everybody come out! Stand for half an hour and then go back to sleep!”
Hearing the voices outside, Su Qin, who was dialing Li Chuan’s phone, silently hung up and cowered into her blanket before sending a text message to Li Chuan, “Teacher Li, good night.”
Li Chuan reckoned that the young girl should be asleep at this hour, stared at his phone from time to time and indeed, received her text message punctually.
The corners of the man’s lips raised up slightly as he took his phone and replied, “Good night.”
Su Qin’s handphone screen lit up once the text message popped out. Fortunately she had set it to mute, otherwise if the dorm-supervising aunt outside heard the sound, she might drag everyone in the dormitory out and punish them.
Yunzhong is very strict in managing their students’ bedtime too.
Students are not allowed to talk after lights out. The dorm-supervising aunt is the dormitory building’s infamous ‘Old Witch’, who waves the chicken feather as token of authority, showing off her dominance and will even administer corporal punishment to the students.
After yesterday’s bitter lesson, Su Qin dared not be late again. She got up at 6.30 to wash up, took the three roommates’ meal cards and went to the cafeteria to help them grab soy milk and deep-fried dough sticks.
Soy milk and deep-fried dough sticks are one of the most favorite breakfast items among students; not to mention how delicious it was soaking the crispy deep-fried dough sticks in the soy milk. But the supply is limited and will be gone if one is late.
Su Qin helped to get breakfast for her three roommates and Yun Fei, which she placed all on the table.
Yun Fei and the three roommates entered the cafeteria together. Meng Sisi and Yu Wen greeted him, but he ignored them and walked straight towards Su Qin, then sat down opposite her.
The three roommates also sat down one after another.
Yu Wen looked at the ‘siblings’ sitting opposite each other and teased, “Su Qin, why is your family Feifei ignoring us ah? We didn’t offend him.”
Su Qin laughed at Yu Wen, “It’s not the first day you know him, and he’s shy.”
Taking the egg from Su Qin’s plate, Yun Fei took the initiative to help her peel and put it on her plate.
The big boy didn’t say anything all along and Su Qin felt too perilous to go on like this, hence she opened her mouth, “Feifei, how’s your relationship with the boys in your dormitory?”
He shook his head, indicating that it was not good.
Su Qin mulled over for a moment and spoke to him in a soft voice, “Feifei, do something for me, okay?”
“Huh?” Yun Fei raised his gaze and looked at her with a puzzled look.
“From tomorrow morning onwards, you take the initiative to take your roommates’ meal cards and help them get breakfast downstairs. Can you do this for me?”
“Why?”
“Don’t ask why, just say if you can do it.”
“Yes.”
Although Yun Fei didn’t know why, he believed that Su Qin would not let him do this for no reason. There must be a reason for it. Since Su-su didn’t want to say it, he didn’t ask.
The first lesson was Math.
The Math teacher, surnamed Yu, is a fat middle-aged man in his forties wearing a black-framed glasses and he walked in from outside with a stack of test papers. Standing on the podium, he cleared his throat and said, “Hello students, I am your Math teacher, Yu Qing.”
Teacher Yu turned around, wrote his name on the blackboard then handed out the test papers to the students without much words.
“This is your junior high’s questions, mainly to test your level. Good luck, Students. The test paper is not difficult and I hope you will all get a perfect score.”
Before the teacher’s voice faltered, the students below had already started to answer the questions earnestly.
The test paper was indeed not difficult but it was not easy either.
Su Qin thought Teacher Yu’s ‘strive for a perfect score’ was just a mantra to encourage the students, unexpectedly she heard the classmates in front and behind her talk after the exam.
“Isn’t this test paper too easy? Zhang Zhenzhen, do you have any questions that you can’t answer?”
“No ah, I should be able to get a perfect score?”
“I think I can get a perfect score too!” The male classmate who spoke turned his head and asked Su Qin, “Su Qin, what about you? Do you have any questions that you couldn’t answer?”
Su Qin was too embarrassed to reply. She couldn’t answer one key question, thus making it impossible to get a perfect score.
In the next three periods, there were Chinese, English and Physics tests respectively. The three periods in the afternoon were the Chemistry, Political Science and History tests.
That evening, the students revised in their classrooms while the teachers of various subjects sat in the office to mark the test papers.
After the Math teacher finished marking the Class 1 test papers, he said while sorting them out, “Teacher Tang, that Su Qin in your class is quite poor in Math. Is her grades very good in other subjects? A total of 48 students in the class, three of them didn’t get full marks and she is one of them, and also the one with the lowest score.”
Hearing that, the Political Science teacher smiled and also said, “Su Qin? She actually scored quite well in Political Science, highest in class.”
The Physics teacher sitting opposite the Political Science teacher frowned, “It seems that this girl is somewhat subjects-partial. My Physics paper is not difficult and she is the only one in the class who did not score above 95 points. Also, the Chemistry paper I helped Teacher Liu marked, she is also the lowest in class. Her grades in these two subjects are not even as good as other students in Classes 5, 6 and 7.”
Teacher Tang was marking Su Qin’s test paper. Hearing the complaints from the Physics and Math teachers, she didn’t respond, instead looked closely at her essay.
Su Qin’s Chinese grades are still pretty good and her writing style is considered not bad among the high school students. Her writing seems to be endowed with experiences and slices of life, simple short sentences that are able to move others.
An essay of [Listen to Mother’s word] once again warmed the rims of Teacher Tang’s eyes.
Su Qin’s Chinese grade ranked first in the class, yet unable to thwart the serious subjects-partiality as her overall score was not good.
Teacher Tang put down the red pen in her hand and said to the two ‘complaining’ Science teachers, “Teacher Yu, Teacher Qin, this student’s situation is a little special. According to her admittance exam results, she should go to Class 7, but her essay writing is amazing. It’s sort of a little selfishness on my part, I think this student can be cultivated.”
“Teacher Tang, this is where you’ve gone too far. Her subjects-partiality is so serious, it will drag the grades of the entire class.” Teacher Yu tapped his knuckles on the table and said angrily, “Send her back to Class 7 since the term has yet to begin. Our Class 1 is going to PK with the Whizz Classes. Did you forget the goals we set ourselves? Strive to teach a regular class that surpasses the Whizz Classes.”
