Chapter 937: Kana The Foodie

Kana looked around the grassy plain of ghostly grass with great interest. She had only been able to come here for a short time last time she was here and sat in the same spot during that time. So now that she could freely roam the place, she wanted to check it out and see what it had to offer.

She spun around in a circle and pointed in a direction, then began walking the opposite way. Why she chose her direction in such a peculiar way, no one will know, but she did. Kana was walking on the endless field of ghostly grass with pursed lips as she realized no matter how far she walked, nothing changed.

The grass that she was stepping on did not show any imprints except for the sport where she stood. All she could see in front of her was a ghostly grassy plain, while behind her was a large mountain. Tapping her finger off her chin, Kana decided to turn around and begin going in the opposite direction.

It did not take her long this time to actually make it someplace. But she did find the kind of invisible wall she ran into that kept her in the same place quite interesting. She decided she would check it out later and see if there was some kind of trick to it that allowed her to go someplace else that she would normally not be able to go to.

The place she arrived at first was a small town which in the land of the dead, small meant the size of an average sized kingdom. Kana was surprised to see the people here going about their daily lives. Shopping and even running stores.

As Kana walked around town, many people stared at her and did their best to stay far, far away from her. While others stared at her with hungry eyes. This was because They could see that Kana had a real body. It confused many, but this did not mean that they did not wish to try to take that body for themselves. A real body would allow them to return to the real world. They would be able to live again!

"Hey, you! Stop!" A bald headed ghost wearing what looked like modern day clothing you could find on earth, but it was more of a punk rockish style, yelled out as he came up from behind Kana. Of course, Kana did not stop since she did not think they were talking to her. She kept looking around curiously, completely ignoring the man screaming behind her.

"You! You dare ignore me!" The bald headed ghost yelled out as he ran up to Kana and went to grab her shoulder, only to be hit by her tail that was wagging back and forth excitedly. The tail smacked him in his side, and before he could figure out what was going on, the world was spinning around him, and all he saw was the sky and ground over and over again as he flew through the air.

Kana paused and looked behind her. When she saw nothing was there, she scratched her head before pursing her lips and turning back to look at things once more. When she spotted a meat stand, her eyes went wide as she hurried over and stood there looking at the meat. It gave off a strange scent, but it smelled good. "Hey, master! How much for one?"

"Hmmm?" The stall owner, who was busy preparing some side dishes, turned to look at Kana. For a second, his eyes went wide, but he quickly put on his business smile as he said: "It's only five soul coins."

"Soul coins?" Kana thought for a minute before opening a tear in space next to her and sticking her head through. "Angelica, Mama needs spirit coins for meat!"

Angelica, who had just finished tossing some sect leaders out of their sect while she read their books, paused her steps and turned to look at her Mama. She helplessly shook her head as she took out a ghostly looking seal. "Mama, just show them this. They will send a bill to the palace. So eat as much as you want. The food there will be very beneficial to your soul as well."

"Thank you!" Kana smiled happily before snatching the token and disappearing, leaving behind Angelica, who was starting to think meat was more important than her daughters. But she knew her Mama loved all her children to death.

On Kana's side of things, she looked happily at the stall owner as she showed him the seal causing the stall owner's business smile to suddenly shift to one of shock. "To think you are related to the Empress! Order what you like. I will make sure it's the best soul food you have ever had!"

"Then… One of everything!" Kana yelled before sitting at one of the small tables as she eagerly waited for her food. She had never had meat in soul form, so she really wanted to know how it would taste.

Meanwhile, a certain catgirl was not having a good time. "Nyaaaaah! It never stops! Ceilie, make it stop!"

"Nergal, I can't make it stop because millions of souls come to the land of the dead every day. Unless someone stops death altogether, there is no way to stop them from coming to the realm of the dead. Plus, they need to come here if they wish to reincarnate. We are just going over the paperwork of those who decide to stay, which is really starting to increase as of late. There seems to be a massive war or something going on in one of the realms. And after seeing how the world here is not much different from the outside, they decide to take up residence here." Ceilie explained.

"But why!? All they are doing is making more work for us! Who decided that the Ghost Empress has to keep track of all the people who show up!? Those damn people in the small towns keep sending us stack after stack of soul paperwork!"
