Chapter 109 Battle Against The Titans; Freljord's Last Stand [1]

Like most mornings in the Great Desert, the golden rays of the sun were the welcoming present from nature as its rays embraced the golden desert.

That morning though, the Freljords woke before the sun.

Just like all the other tribes, the settlement of the Freljord tribe was more or less made in the same way. At this moment, from the elder's pyramid, the elders gave their last orders to the commanders.

"Fran, Frey, Fraud, this is our last stand".

"We already evacuated most of our civilians to the outskirts of the settlement, yet they are still under the threat of the titans".

"Until they are safely in our ancient shelters, we cannot rest".

"You 3 are the best warriors of the current generation".

"All the warriors are already under your command, today is the day to prove your mettle to your tribe and your ancestors".

"Please, don't fail us".

Fran, the leaner of the 3 brown-haired middle-aged men acknowledged the orders but not after asking. "What about you, elders?"

"You will be joining the civilians to evacuate right?"

The oldest man of the bunch laughed. "I may be old but I still have some fiery dust still burning in my veins". He grabbed his Elementalist staff. "At least, for one last time, I want to show my power to the world and burn brightly".

"If it comes to it, I and the other elders will join the fight".

"Even if it will be my last chance to burn brightly, I'll appreciate it".

Without saying a word, the 3 lean brown-haired Commanders bowed to acknowledge the orders before marching out with stern expression on their faces.

On going out, they met a settlement that was already as silent as a graveyard. With most of the civilians already evacuated to the outskirts of the settlement, only warriors were left and at this moment they were silent and alert.

After yesterday and the day before that's clash against the Titans, they lost a lot of warriors but they were able to learn a lot about the Titans.

Most of the warriors were hidden under the sand, others simply lay in different depressions on the front of the settlement that were made during the previous battles. Once the 3 Commanders came, without a word, they waited.

They already discussed the strategy ahead of time so they simply waited.

They waited for 25 minutes as the sun grew hotter by the minute, this was when they finally started hearing it.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

The ground shook like an earthquake as the Titans started marching out.

From afar, the warriors saw them. They were not rotten zombies, they were still giant intact humanoid monsters. The ancient texts recorded that Titans don't decay, the reanimated Titans supported this theory.

Mostly standing as tall as 4 to 6 meters, they towered above the humans. These were the civilian reanimated Titans, they don't sprint, they could only walk.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

The sounds of their large feet stomping on the ground sent chills down the warriors' spines, this was when Fran finally spoke.

"Don't fear warriors, our enemies are now before us again".

"They came and attacked us unprepared on the first day and we lost".

"They intend to annihilate us, they intend to kill our wives and children, they intend to turn out settlement into a ruin, will you allow that?"

"NO!!!" The warriors roared.

"We will not allow it!" Fran also roared.

"We now understand them, we are no longer scared of them".

"For our families, for our home, let's go out there and kill these bastard titans! Let's show them what Freljords are made of!"

"All warriors, after me!"

Fran led the charge out to the titans as with his Elementalist staff tightly in his grasp, fire sprouted from his legs through which he levitated into the skies.

"Kill the titans!"

He attacked first as soon as he swung his Elementalist staff.

3 fireballs appeared in the sky and under his incredible control, he divided them into fiery spears that he sent at the Titans.

The massive Titans smacked with their huge hands at the fiery spears, destroying some but the remaining all dug into their huge heads.

A black liquid in the place of blood erupted from their burst heads as the crystal shattered into pieces.

Fran killed 3 civilian Titans at the same time with one attack.

His warriors were motivated. "Kill!"

With the 3 Commanders leading the formation, the brown-haired warriors of the Freljord tribe who were mostly Elementalists rushed at the undead Titans.

Fire Elementalists hauled fiery attacks at the Titans' heads while earth Elementalists controlled the sand, turning them into deadly weapons which they hauled at the Titans to devastating effect.

For the first few minutes, they managed to kill over a dozen civilian Titans without suffering a casualty until the Titans finally closed the distance.

Like every other Elementalists, the major weakness of the Freljord tribe warriors was close combat. Once the Titan closed the distance, they attacked.

Despite training specially for this already, some of the low-grade Elementalists were unable to react on time to the Titan attacks.

They were smacked to death and feasted on by the brainless Titans.

Despite the deaths, with Fran, Frey, and Fraud leading the charge, the warriors of the Freljord tribe remained motivated. They would rather fight to their deaths than see their wives and children die due to their incompetence.

"Kill the Titans!"

"Protect the settlement!"

Having learned from their previous losses, the Freljords were wiser this time.

Apart from their personal strength, they set traps ahead of time. As the Titans made them slowly retreat, they set off the traps.

Chaotic mana bombs erupted as soon as the Titans crossed a certain point into the settlement, claiming a lot of Titan lives.

The few Pugilist Freljord tribesmen who were previously hidden also came out now as they threw their powerful spears at the Titan's heads.

Unable to dodge, the powerful throwing force of the Pugilists enabled the spears to tear their brain open, destroying their crystals in the process.

For 2 hours, the Freljord tribe stood their ground, holding the Titans off from invading their settlement for the first time since they clashed.

They killed a lot of Titans while suffering minimal casualties but this only lasted for another hour until a Warrior Titan finally showed up.

This Titan unlike the others was a warrior in its lifetime. Apart from standing at 10 meters tall, it had armor, a helmet, and a weapon, a double-bladed sword.

"Roar!!!"

The Warrior Titan roared as it bulldozed through the human ranks.

With its double-bladed sword, it exploded with speed as it swiped left and right, harvesting the human's lives like it was mere rice. Its stomp induced a mini-earthquake and its speed was too fast for the humans to keep up with.

The momentum of the humans was disrupted instantly.

Singlehandedly, it charged all the way through into the settlement but as soon as it invaded, it fell into a finely prepared trap by the commanders.

Having suffered against this Warrior Titan yesterday, Fran, Frey, Fraud, and the elders put a lot of thoughts into bringing it down.

As soon as it invaded through the weakest spot into the settlement, it fell into a massive quagmire that was already made by the dozens of earth Elementalists. It struggled but it could not break free immediately.

On Fraud's orders, Chaotic Mana bombs were thrown at the Titan as they all exploded. When the explosion died down, it was still alive.

It was badly scorched but it was still alive.

Shockingly, unlike the other brainless Titans, the Warrior Titan was intelligent enough to protect its head with its sword.

"Attack!" Fran roared as he jumped into battle with haste.

The Warrior Titan was severely injured and blinded but it was still dangerous. Fran led the attack to personally bring it down.

Dozens of warriors joined him including the remaining 2 Commanders as they gave their all to fight the Titan. 10 minutes later, it finally died after a sacrifice of 15 brave Freljord warriors.

They suffered but to Fran, it was all worth it. Killing the Warrior Titan was much more valuable than killing 10 Civilian Titans.

He barely finished rejoicing before louder thuds reverberated in the battlefield. On looking ahead, he saw 2 other Warrior Titans running from deep inside the desert where the Titans slept in the night.

Fran was shocked. "More Warrior Titans?!"

He recovered the next moment though. "Attack!"
