Chapter 1557: Breaking In
The young soldier didn't go toward any of the elevators on the side of the wall. Instead, he walked through the city, going in a certain direction.
Ning's eyes narrowed as he saw that. Most soldiers, including Chief Officers and Lieutenants, lived in designated places around the walls. The ones that got their own separate housing in the middle of the city were someone who was either a Captain or higher in ranking.
Other than them, only essential organizations and other such groups were allowed in this part of the town. And Ning doubted the man was a part of those.
There was a definite possibility that the man was going toward his place of residence on the walls on the other side. Of course, it was faster to cross through the town and then take the elevator on the other side.
But, Ning's suspicions were quickly eliminated when he saw the young man walk up to a gated building with guards on the outside and talk to the guard.
The gates opened and the man was let in.
Ning walked up to the building and looked inside. It was a residential building for sure, one that belonged to some high-ranking officer.
He flew inside and quickly made his way into the house through an open window on the top. There weren't many things inside the room, but it was still a fancy one.
From what he could tell, this was a study room, but with no books. The single padded chair in the room was empty, next to a small side table that held a single glowing crystal on some sort of twisted metal that held it.
Ning walked out of the door and listened for any sort of noise to know where he was supposed to go. He heard some whispers from downstairs and quickly honed in on the location.
Walking up to a room, he heard the voices on the other side.
"Yes, I got the portion of the money," the voice on the inside said. It was a male voice, one which sounded slightly old. "Any troubles this time around? I know the military is pushing the soldiers to find more about Dust."
"None on that front," the young man said. His voice sounded so very respectful. "But, there was something."
He found the uniform neatly put on a table to the side. Looking at it, he saw a small badge on top of it.
General
This man was a General.
Ning's eyes widened in shock. A General was only below Major and Major General. And from what Ning had heard, there were no more than 15 Generals in total.
And one of them was responsible for helping the Dust maker? This was a big conspiracy.
Harper would be happy to learn this. 'Or absolutely horrified,' Ning thought. He smiled, wondering what her face would look like tomorrow.
The door opened wider and Ning turned around. There was a girl in the room, looking directly in his direction.
"Who is there?" she shouted.
Ning looked at the girl, frowning. She looked a little familiar in the darkness. 'Wait, is she...'
"You! Answer me!" the girl threw something in Ning's direction. Without hesitation, Ning teleported away, gone from the place at once.
He arrived in his room some distance away, somewhat shocked and worried.
The girl that had noticed him had been Parima, the Connector girl he had been tested with a few weeks ago. 'Did she connect to my mind without me noticing?' Ning thought.
That was problematic.
But what was more problematic was that the man who was most likely to be Parima's father, a General, was assuredly a criminal.
