Being the current and former 'First Sword' respectively, the two men were privy to some information about the royalty of the Great Western Empire, and part of the reason why the country was considered a Major World Power.

Taking from one of the reasons why the city-state of magic, Kasteblum, was considered a world power despite its small size, then it was easy to figure out one of the reasons the Great Western Empire was considered one too.
