Chapter 13: Chapter 13 – Candy

Feng slowly watched as the sun go down the horizon. Cold water lapped against her waist as she half hung from the side of the wooden door. ‘Am I going to become frozen like jack?’ she worriedly glanced at the kids. They both were huddled in the centre of the door, hugging each other close. One of the kid occasionally glanced at her with her cold eyes and the scoffed.

‘What is up with them? I just saved their lives yet they are treating me like air,’ Feng bit her lips in remorse. The task window had not appeared after that, that means her task was still in progress. ‘Swim like swine, bloody hell, I’m swimming like a swine alright. I too ant to sit on the wood,’ she internally cried, peering up at the gloomy sky.

‘I’m hungry....’ she mentally cried as her stomach growled in symphony.

One of the boys suddenly crawled up to her and held her hands tight.

She had a flimsy hold on the piece of wood and his grip just made her slip off. She suddenly submerged in water and swam up. “w-what the hell? Why did you do that?” she shouted in rage. But the little green-eyed kid pushed something inside her clenched fists and crawled away. ‘Bloody hell,’ she opened her hand to find a small dirty candy inside. “This for me?”

The kid turned back and nodded with the still cold eyes.

“What about you? Aren’t you hungry?”

The kid shook his head.

“No, we haven’t eaten in a while, you guys must be hungry. Why don’t we split the candy?” Feng proposed. The candy was still in its wrapper, so she swiftly dunked it in water to cleanse off the mud. Putting it in her mouth, she bit it slightly with her canines. The hard candy cracked into pieces inside the wrapper. “Here, take this. I just want a little piece,” she took the littlest of the three pieces and handed the rest to them.

The blue eyes kid gazed at her stunned while the green eyed kid peered at her unblinking.

“Take it, it might fall down,” she held it out to them.

Finally, the green eyed kid slowly moved closer and took it from her hand. He went to his brother and ate the remaining pieces together.

Seeing them softly chew on it, Feng smirked. ‘They are cute brats. Poor kids though, their parent might be searching for them,’ she thought with a sigh. Looking at the state of their hair, they looked like well maintained at least. ‘But, what about this body? Did she have any parents?’ she thought, glancing at her lanky form. There was barely any meat on her, only bones poking here and there.

“Hey, you both, what are your names, I can’t keep calling you green eye and blue eye now can I?” she chuckled out loud slowly savouring the candy under her tongue.

The blue eyes kid glanced at her hesitantly and whispered, “Aiden,”

“Ethan,” the green-eyed kid whispered as well.

“Aiden and Ethan, what a nice name you both have. I am Feng, like the fire phoenix,” she happily said.

The kid’s eyes went wide for a second. They both huddled each together and leaned closer.

Sensing that they wanted to take rest, Feng went silent, glancing at the upcoming ripple and the moving clouds.

Aiden peered at his brother, {‘isn’t her name Rulia? why is her name different? is she purposely lying to and us? But why though?’}

Last life when they were in the box the girl whispered to them in fear, her name and her parents’ name asking if they knew them. But the boys were very little then, so they were not aware at all. So they shook their head. Right after that, this girl started screaming and wailing that led to her imminent death.

Ethan shook his head. {‘I don’t think she is lying, rather, I think she is a completely different person.’}

{‘what!!! So you think she is just like us?’} Aiden exclaimed in their mind link.

Ethan peered at the girl’s silly smirk. {‘no, I think she’s not like us, rather it feels like her whole personality has changed. It’s highly possible that she is ‘Feng’ not ‘rulia’. Let’s not think too much, she is insignificant for us now, we should ditch her as soon as we get to land,’}

Aiden started speaking, {‘but...’} Ethan peered at him that silenced him immediately. {‘okay fine, but it’s gonna take a while right. The steamer ship does not cross our path for two days. Why did you give her our only food?’}

{‘she....she looked starved. That girl is in worse condition than us, yet she let us sit on this piece of wood rather than hang on it. I-I don’t want to owe her anything,’} Ethan whispered.

{‘Whatever you say brother..... but I think you have a soft spot for her,’} Aiden swiftly chuckled and closed his eyes.

Ethan scoffed. The little girl was paling with the bubbles popping then and smirking, {‘what’s there to be likable? So silly and stupid,’}

Feng who was named as silly and stupid happily popped few foam bubbled in boredom. ‘I want to sleep, I want to play, I want to read, ugh, why is surviving so tough. And when will that message window pop up?!!’
