119 Chapter 119 – Surprise task!

“Your sons?! I wish to be their mentor!”

For a second lady, Perlin was stumped. She did not know how to answer him. This was not a normal person she was talking. This person was the principal of the prestigious school of magic. He had been holding his position for almost twenty years.

It was said that he had only taught the number one mage Yubiri from the sides. Till now he had never accepted any apprentices.

To him suggest that he wanted her sons as his apprentice was a great surprise.

“This...” she looked at Ethan and Aiden, conflicted. In terms of their education, it was their own choice to choose their own mentors. The boys had made it quite clear about it since day one.

Sensing her hesitation, he made a better offer. “I will give you both half of the treasures I’ve collected in my years!!”

Lady Perlin looked toward the kids.

The principal was starting to sweat by now. “As my apprentices, you guys will have exclusive entrance to the top floor of the restricted library and all the resources in that section!”

“Definitely! definitely!” the principal gestured for him to enter the gates again.

Lady Perlin helped Feng and Elle down.

“Are you girls tired? If so, I can take you home?” lady Perlin gently pinched Elle’s and Feng’s cheeks.

Feng shook her head. She really wanted to witness the glorious moment when the twin boys got their mentor. It was said that the process of accepting mentors is quite spectacular and very beautiful to look at.

‘Wait a moment wasn’t Clarina trained by the principal as well? But he never accepted her as an official apprentice.’

Lady Perlin looked at her boys for a second. Both Ethan and Aiden were used to making their own decision. Since Alvin decided to take care of them, she agreed with this idea.

Feng and Elle were once again helped into the carriage.

The carriage started to slowly move through the familiar shipping district.

Feng embarrassedly looked at lady Perlin. “it’s really okay. We could just grab a snack nearby and meet up with them.”

“oh no, eating outside is strictly prohibited,” lady Perlin gently touched the tip of her nose.

“Why so?” Feng rubbed her nose with a smile.

“Because it’s the Duke’s only rule,” lady Perlin had a strange look on her face as she said this. “listen young ones, this rule might seem quite insignificant but it can really save lives. The food we eat at home has to be tested by at least one mage, one food sampler, and one cook. Otherwise, it must not be eaten, got it?”

Feng silently tugged at Elle’s skirt. “do you know why?” she whispered to her

Elle nodded. “I heard that someone tried to poison aunt. that’s why uncle has strictly prohibited her from eating outside,”

“Poison?!” Feng was quite literally shocked. Lady Perlin was a duchess. She was a powerful and influential lady and someone actually tried to poison her. That was insane!

“shh..” Elle cupped her mouth. “aunt is quite sensitive about it. I don’t know the inside information, but it was someone close to the duke’s family who did it,”

“oh....” Feng couldn’t help but think of the game plot.

Lady Perlin did not exist and duke Parlov Lineti was cold-hearted, and who never shed an ounce of a smile at anyone.

‘maybe I should browse the magic shops with Alvin and others and find an artifact that can protect her physically and internally,’

As she was thinking this, she heard a small groan.

Lady Perlin, who had been in a dazed state, finally reacted. “What is wrong dear? Is it your head?”

Elle shook her head. her forehead was slightly glowing green.

The last time this happened, Elle was able to predict the fight completely.

Her heart started to pound loudly. ‘the t-task..... saving Perlin.. then something is going to happen that will risk her life,’ she looked at the lady’s way with her eyes wide open.

“Feng dear, are you sacred too? come close, let me hug you.” she hugged her to her side.

Feng searched her pocket. She didn’t carry that medallion with her.

‘shit.. I don’t have it.. what am I going to do...’

She tugged at lady Perlin’s skirt. “do you have a dagger? any weapons.. anything,”

Lady Perlin frowned slightly. “What is it dear? What’s wrong?”

“I feel like danger is coming our way.”

Elle nodded vigorously. “I feel it too. we need to be prepared.”

“Okay, let’s do something about it. coachman. Find us a good inn nearby. Book us the finest rooms. and please can you give a word to the duke that we are waiting for him,” Lady Perlin did not ignore their warning.

“Yes my lady,”

As for why they made this decision, the only path that led to the duke’s mansion was quite rural and empty. Anything can happen on the way.

The carriage stopped close to a very posh-looking inn

Lady Perlin got down first and helped them down.

Elle was slightly rattled, so Feng helped her in.

The rooms were booked for them. The coachman and the inn’s servants led them to their room.

Since they were only resting in for a while, they only booked one room. It was luxurious enough with fancy paintings and statues.

“Lady can you order the servants not to enter the room.”

Lady Perlin gave her a weird look. But even so, she nodded and agreed to her suggestion.

Th servants and the coach man were sent away.

“Come here,” lady Perlin pulled them both close to her on the soft cushion sofa. “There is something to worry about. it’s all going to be okay,”

‘I hope so,’ Feng held her breath.

In about five minutes or so Elle fell asleep. Every time she used her powers it would take away all her energy. this time seemed to be the worst case. She visibly looked so tired as she slept.

Lady Perlin placed a wet cloth on her eyes to soothe her trembling lashes.

While the lady was tending to Elle Feng was not idle. Her eyes scanned the room for anything that she could possibly used as a weapon. But to her dismay, nothing was available.

‘I can use the candle holders, right?’ she looked at the sterling silver candle holders that had a slight sharp end to them.

Lady Perlin kissed her cheeks all of a sudden. “I know you were hungry.. I’m so sorry....”

“it’s okay,” she looked at the biscuits on the table and gulped. ‘nope I am not touching anything. What if they are poisoned? I don’t want to risk it,’

Lady Perlin poured the water she bought with her into a brass pot and heated it up with magic.

“Here try to quell your hunger with this,” she held up a cup.

Feng drank from it. the water was quite refreshing but it was not filling by any means. ‘I really should consider carrying some snacks with me at all times. Who knows when this shitty game will give me a task.. what if next time in stranded in a forest? I really have to be prepared for anything.’

Mentally she thought of all the things she should carry from now on.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
