Chapter 143: Bait

"Let's move back a few more meters," Xu Feng whispered to Zhao Kai, who was clearly frightened.

The adrenaline rush from earlier had dissipated. Thus, he was now filled with fear when required to confront the Shadow Wolves at nighttime.

Others might not know, but Zhao Kai had recalled his previous battle and counted he had missed a lot of shots.

If it hadn't been for Xu Feng's subtle assistance, then he would have turned into mincemeat already before even having the chance to come to the Shadow Wolves' habitat.

Sometime later, the two distanced quite a bit and Zhao Kai began muttering, "We should just wait till the sun rises, Feng. My aim is really not that good. The pressure is too much."

He finally relented and revealed his inner thoughts. The fact that Xu Feng placed such high hopes on him was actually giving him a lot of pressure.

As much as he wanted to believe himself as a sharpshooter, he knew the truth was far from it.

Xu Feng paused for a moment before chuckling and patting Zhao Kai's shoulder. "I don't expect you to be an amazing shooter. Just listen to me and you'll be fine."

"Are you sure you're not trying to get me killed?" Zhao Kai doubtfully said in a joking manner, seemingly trying to brush off his anxiety through some crack joke.

Alas, the joke was quite off and it only made him look like a clown.

"Did you remember the monster corpse I told you to collect?" Xu Feng kindly reminded him.

"Those patrolling Shadow Wolves are doing their duty to detect intruders lurking around their habitat. But what if they suddenly smell the delicious raw meat from a distance?"

"I don't get it..." Perplexed, Zhao Kai scratched his head, clearly requiring a few more hints.

Sometimes, Xu Feng's words are just too deep and require much analysis and thought process to comprehend. And since he was not in the mood for such, he directly asked for the answer.

Exhausting as in his resources were being exhausted rapidly. There were only so many resources he had before he would run out of them and require to gather more whether it would be in the wild or NPC stores.

"Feng, I've scattered them!" Zhao Kai suddenly announced, causing Xu Feng to nearly throw his staff at him for his loud mouth.

"Shh, the Shadow Wolves aren't that far from us. Do you want to alert them so badly?" Xu Feng hastily ran over to him and scolded him in a low tone. "The bait is laid out, but if they heard or detected us, then what was the point of putting out such a bait? You might as well go loud and proud then."

"S-Sorry," Embarrassed, Zhao Kai could only apologize.

It was hard to not be excited when he treated the Divine World as a simple video game whereas Xu Feng treated it very seriously.

Rarely was there a moment he had seen Xu Feng being overly excited about something in the Divine World. Everything just seemed natural or as expected in his eyes.

Sometime later, the two retreated further away and Xu Feng directed Zhao Kai on where to take his stance.

"You don't have to worry about missing and just fire when I said so, okay?" Xu Feng said, asking him for confirmation.

Nodding his head, Zhao Kai held a solemn expression.

"I'll only fire if you tell me to." He responded.

"Good, don't fire if I never command for it, even if you think you have a clear shot." Xu Feng further emphasized the point.

What he wanted to do was to integrate the meaning of trigger discipline into Zhao Kai's mind. Additionally, he didn't want Zhao Kai to be over-pressured into believing that he could not afford to miss his shots.

If a person got overly anxious regarding their aim, then the chances of them missing were as high as 90 percent. Only by remaining completely calm despite the tense situation could one actually shoot and aim properly.

Right at this time, numerous howling echoed and light footsteps sounded.

"They're here." Xu Feng mumbled, giving a light pat on Zhao Kai's shoulder.
