Chapter 222: Mirage Pendant

After speaking for some more with the mayor, mainly about the town's current situation, he was promptly dismissed.

The mayor was a busy man and they are the sole authoritative in their respective town.

For Mayor Adam to spend so much time conversing with Xu Feng was already a blessing.

As he exited the office, Sandy followed behind and smiled lightly.

"You've made quite the achievement, Baron Lin Feng," Sandy commented.

"It's still thanks to your recommendation and Herbalist Elias' trust in me." Xu Feng shook his head and denied taking all the credit.

He doubted the reward would actually be that amazing had it not been for their involvement. After all, the mayor never saw him personally.

Additionally, the insurgent wasn't done by him alone, but many more involved. Yet even so, those who quenched the other insurgent hideout didn't receive any recognition or reward, which had raised his suspicions.

His method could be considered employing others to do the task on his behalf, yet Mayor Adam only praised him, neglecting everyone else.

He would truly be ignorant if he were to believe the mayor was someone naive or foolish to not understand this matter.

"You don't have to thank me too much." Sandy calmly replied. "I suppose you are going to depart for the city soon, and I must warn you. The city is far more complicated and dangerous than the town."

"Indeed, I have a lot of things to do." Xu Feng didn't have much to do in the town since the scope and field were very limited. This was the reason why he didn't pay much attention to the dungeon raiding or anything else.

As for becoming a noble in the town, the benefit might be nice, but it just wasn't great. Not to mention, he got the Baron status handed over to him for free, saving him the decision to take on town reputation quests.

Sometime later, Xu Feng followed Sandy, who proceeded to bring him to the vault.

"What are we doing here?" Confused, Xu Feng inquired about her intention.

"Mayor Adam might have rewarded you, but I haven't yet." Sandy coolly explained, opening the vault door.

"Eh?" Dumbfounded, Xu Feng was clearly lost by her explanation.

Description: The Mirage Pendant is a mystical artifact that grants its wearer the ability to change their identification and appearance at will. The pendant appears as a simple, unassuming piece of jewelry with a dull, silver luster and an intricate, yet faded, engraving of a shifting landscape.

Unsealing Method: To unseal the Mirage Pendant, the user must simply whisper their name into the pendant three times in succession while standing under the light of the full moon.

Effects:

-Change Appearance: The wearer can alter their physical appearance, including facial features, hair color, and body shape. This change is temporary and can be reversed at will.

-Change Identification: The pendant allows the user to alter their documented identity, including name, background information, and any official records.

Note: The pendant's power can only be used once every 24 hours, and the changes last until the user decides to revert to their original form or use the pendant again.

Astonished, Xu Feng's eyes were glued to the unsealing method and wondered if the system got it wrong.

He turned to Sandy and asked, "Is it really that simple?"

"Of course," Sandy shrugged and laughed. "The irony here lies in the simplicity of this method, as many seekers of the pendant's power overlook it, believing a more complex ritual is required."

"B-But how did you know about this?"

"Ahem, let's not ask something we should not ask, okay?"

With that being said, Xu Feng realized he needed to re-evaluate what he knew about Sandy.

It appeared that she was more than just your typical receptionist.

'No wonder she had a rapport status. As expected... nothing could ever be that coincidental.' Xu Feng thought, feeling a sense of danger emitted from her when she warned him not to pry further.

"Anyway, do you enjoy my reward more than Mayor Adam?" Sandy subsequently asked, her smile carrying a hint of malice.

Meanwhile, Xu Feng adjusted his glasses and chuckled softly. He was never one to give in to threats, especially when they flashed a malicious smile.

"Naturally, I love your reward more than Mayor Adam. No, this reward of yours can't even be compared to his, Sandy." Xu Feng responded, not an ounce of shame could be detected.
