Chapter 416: – Turnabout Misfortune
While John was having a relaxing time playing detective with Xuan and Wu, Titor was just coming off the most stressful time of his life (not including John's imported memories, of course.)
"Hah..." Titor let out a deep sigh as he watched a small baby girl sleeping in a big plastic box with all sorts of sensors hooked up to it. Glancing to the side, he let out another sigh as he saw Amadeus sleeping in her bed, skin pale and crimson hair matted by sweat.
After a hectic 24 hours that were touch and go, Amadeus delivered a healthy, if premature, baby girl. But as a result, both were moved to the NICU section of the hospital.
Well, at first they wanted to move just their daughter, but Titor talked them out of it.
...He and Yue, that is.
Let it be known that a pissed off Yue can talk anyone into doing anything.
But anyway, that was all settled, and Titor was keeping an eye on his little family. But he wasn't alone.
Jenny walked next to Titor and then glanced at his new daughter. After that, she looked over at him and said, "You're surprisingly calm."
Titor nodded and said, "At this point, I'm too tired to be anything but calm."
Jenny let out a soft laugh and said, "I can imagine. But even so." She patted Titor on the back and said, "You did good, Titor."
Titor smiled. "Thanks. Glad that you're here at least." He frowned and said, "...Would've been great to have John around too."
Jenny pulled her hand back and said, "Big Bro would have come. But considering how much of a trouble and weird magnet he is, probably for the best he didn't."
"True." Titor reached out to stretch. After that, he let out a deep yawn.
Man he was tired...
Jenny noticed and said, "How about you take a break? It won't be good to have the entire family collapsed from fatigue in the hospital, would it?"
Titor chuckled. "It wouldn't. And really could use a Dk Pep right now..." He lightly tapped on the incubator holding his daughter and said, "Papa will be back soon." After that, he walked over to Amadeus and gave her a kiss on the cheek. "Love you, Sweetie. Rest well. I'll be back."
Jenny waited by the door for Titor.
After finishing his goodbyes, Titor walked over, and the two left the room.
Just outside the door, a pair of uniformed men were standing guard.
The first had spiky blonde hair and blue eyes, while the second had long silver hair and electric green eyes.
Claus and Seth, members of the Legends Security Company.
Titor blinked when he saw them and said, "When did you two get here?"
Claus reached up to stretch and then said, "Since Miss Amadeus was moved."
Seth lowered a book he was reading. Afterwards, he looked at Titor and said, "John felt that security detail was important, so we were reassigned last minute. Rest assured, no harm will befall the new mother."
Claus sighed and said, "Could you stop mentioning 'Mother' so often?"
"Why?" Seth smiled and said, "It's a great game."Geett the latest novels at novelhall.com
"...I liked you better when you were active-duty."
"Live a little, Claus." Seth chuckled and opened his book back up. "Life is too short and unexpected to be spent scowling."
"..." Claus pointedly ignored Seth and then looked back at Titor. "Either way, we've got this covered. Go rest up. You look like you need it."
"...Right."
"It's true!" Jenny huffed and said, "I don't get why everyone thinks that site is all for explicit content. They've pushed real hard for family friendly content, you know? And there's a lot of good content creators on there making cool stuff. Besides, have you SEEN Twotch?"
Titor chuckled and said, "You mean 'Twat'ch?"
"Ugh." Jenny shook her head and said, "The number of times I've been flash-banged by the front page..."
Titor walked over to the vending machine area and then pulled out his wallet. "I'm surprised they haven't been sued into the ground yet." He put some coins into the machine and pressed the button for a Dk Pep. "Or gone bankrupt. You'd have to imagine that it's a big liability, right?"
Jenny walked to the vending machine next to Titor and bought a Munster Energy Drink. After grabbing it, she cracked it open and said, "Well, sex sells, apparently. Even if it's dirty money."
Titor grabbed his drink and then raised an eyebrow. "...Says the woman streaming on LonelyFans?"
Jenny took a sip from her drink and then said, "Make fun of me all you want. I can tell you that my chat is 99% less horny than the chats on UTube or Twotch."
"...Sure." Titor walked over to a food vending machine and then bought a fried chicken bento box. While waiting for it to heat up, he said, "Women can have their hobbies. I won't judge."
Jenny clicked her tongue and then bought herself a sandwich from another vending machine. After that, she said, "Whatever."
Titor smirked.
After a minute, Titor's bento box finished warming up.
He took it out and then said, "By the way, did John get that Project Yuusha or whatever off the ground yet?"
Jenny grabbed her sandwich and shook her head. "It's been hard. Not many people are applying, and the people who ARE applying aren't the sort who match our vision."
Titor started walking back towards the elevator. As he did, he frowned and said, "Yeah, I guess that would be an issue, huh?"
Pulling from the MirAIs fans would be hard since they were all diehard fans. Of course, it wasn't that they would attack any guy who would join the company, but anybody applying would be sure to have that in the back of their mind.
"Hm..." Titor sipped on his Dk Pep and said, "I guess John's going scouting again then?"
Jenny nodded. "That's what he said. Though considering this latest situation, it'll probably take a bit..."
"Right, right. That black corp situation." Titor rounded the corner, reaching the main lobby. "It's funny. If I didn't know better, I'd think that was straight out from a manga-"
"What do you mean I can't see her!?"
A loud and shrill female voice cut through the lobby.
Titor paused and then glanced over towards the source of the ruckus.
A woman with dyed blue hair stood in front of the receptionist desk. Her white shirt was stained with sweat, while the hems of her jeans were covered in dirt. Glaring at the receptionist, she swung her arm out and said, "I'm Midori's best friend!"
The receptionist, a mild-mannered and ordinary young woman, held up her hands and said, "I'm sorry, Miss. But the patient's representative has denied all visitors except those on the approved list." She glanced at her computer and said, "...And 'Saki Uragi' is not on the list."
Jenny blinked, staring at the woman with a thoughtful gaze. And then she frowned and looked at Titor. "Hey, Titor. Do you think that woman is...? Wait. Titor?"
Titor chuckled and pulled out his phone. After that, he pulled out a slim silver card. Tossing it into the air, the card unfolded into a small drone and hovered in front of Titor.
Jenny blinked and then said, "Are you really going to do this?"
Titor smirked. "I needed some stress relief anyway. Besides, if the universe is handing me drama on a silver platter, who am I to refuse?"
Jenny sighed. "...This is EXACTLY why you and John don't live peaceful lives..."
