"Linus? What are you doing here?" Kaizen asked, still half surprised.
"Kaizen! Good to see you, my friend!" Linus replied, smiling, the flames of the fire the Psyker held in his left hand reflecting off his dark glasses. "Meeting you in this dark, distant cave is quite a coincidence, isn't it?"
At that moment, Kaizen figured out everything that was going on because of Linus' ironic tone.
"You gave Alina false information, didn't you?" asked Kaizen, his eyelids drooping like those of a dead fish as he lowered his sword.
"False information? Of course not. The Sword of Ignis is indeed here." Linus replied, taking a step aside.
Behind him was an almost oval rock and on that rock was a sword, only this sword was not burning as Kaizen had imagined, on the contrary, it looked rusty, old and forgotten for hundreds of years. This was not the sword Kaizen was looking for.
"What have you been doing?"
"I swear, it was like this when I arrived." Linus raised both hands in surrender.
Kaizen took a deep breath. "All right... You wanted to meet me, right? So just tell me what you need."
Those simple words were enough to turn Linus Farwynn's wry expression into a happy one, with his huge yellowish smile standing out.
"After we spent the night at the mansion..."
"Don't talk like that. It sounds strange."
"You're right... After the night in that mansion, you agreed to help the Order of Dalamyr if needed for the sake of balance, but you also said that you wouldn't be available for a while, so we waited. However, the situation has recently become critical."
Kaizen moved closer to Linus as he listened to what he said, to take a closer look at the Sword of Ignis.
"What situation has become critical?" Kaizen asked, trying once to pull the sword out of the rock but failing.
"You know, the defeat in the attack on the capital was devastating for the Eye of Hermodr, and they were desperate afterward, resorting to methods I never imagined they would use so soon. They are calling upon powers beyond their comprehension to gain the strength they need to recover."
Kaizen frowned, still trying to pull the sword from the stone. "And what does this have to do with me? My mission is not to destroy the Eye of Hermodr."
"Well, the Order of Dalamyr needs someone with your skills to take them on. Besides, we have learned that the Eye of Hermodr is planning a major attack soon, and we need to prepare for it. We still don't know why they tried to attack the Tretidian capital, and this may be related."
Kaizen finally gave up trying to pull the sword out of the stone and turned to Linus. "And what's in it for me?"
"The same thing you get every time you help the Order of Dalamyr: the knowledge that you are doing the right thing, protecting the world from supernatural dangers."
Kaizen sighed and thought for a moment. He knew that Linus was not lying about the threat of the Eye of Hermodr, but he also did not want to get involved in conflicts that were not his, now that he wanted to evolve on many levels. But he also knew that he could not ignore his responsibilities as a Psyker.
"All right, I'll help. But first you have to explain something to me."
"What?
"How do I get this sword out of here?" Kaizen said, pointing at the rusty sword.
Linus laughed. "I don't know. There might be something on the back that explains a method, right?"
Kaizen frowned, a little skeptical, and without much hope approached the stone again and examined the back. There was nothing special written on it, just the rough texture of the stone. With that, he closed his eyes and took a deep breath, concentrating on his psyker powers in a last attempt to remove the sword from the stone. He tried to use <Psychokinesis> to sense the energy of the stone, the energy of the rusty sword, and the energy of the environment, which was noticeably different, and this was easy to understand because of the paranormal mist. He tried to find a connection, a way to release the sword with something other than force.
Suddenly, he felt an electric current running through his body and his eyes opened in surprise. He immediately looked at the sword and saw it begin to glow a bright red, almost as if it were glowing. He reached up and touched the blade, feeling a surge of vibrant energy pass through his right arm.
He tried to pull the sword one last time, and if it didn't even move, like the other times, he would give up. But to his surprise, the sword detached from the stone and floated in the air, hovering in front of Kaizen. He picked it up and examined it closely. The blade was thin and curved, with a rune embedded in the handle, which meant fire in Old Elven.
Furthermore, Kaizen could feel the energy pulsing through it, a hot, burning energy.
Linus cheered, impressed. "I've never seen anything like that before! How did you do that?"
Kaizen shrugged, still stunned by what had just happened. "I don't know. I guess I just got lucky." He looked at the sword again and felt a shiver run down his spine. He knew that this sword would be important for his journey, but he still didn't know how. He put it back in its sheath and turned to Linus. "All right, I'll help. Where do we start?"
[Item: Sword of Ignis (Assault Weapon)
This was the weapon of a talented mage who was erased from history and existence. Legends about this weapon echo in the far reaches of Midgard, mostly about how the fire on its blade cannot be extinguished even underwater. But just as there are legends of its power, there are also legends of its demise.
In the past, an ancient druid claimed that if the fire on the blade of the Sword of Ignis were extinguished, the end of the world would be too close to avoid.
