Chapter 72: Second-Grade
"GRYFFINDOR"
At the opening dinner, George Weasley sat in the branch chair. Professor McGonagall just touched George's hair, and Sorting Hat couldn't wait to shout.
Just like Fred Weasley.
The twins were born Gryffindor, and Sorting Hat didn't want to read their quality carefully for a second.
Applause rang out from the Gryffindor long table, expressing their welcome to George Weasley.
Coven was also clapping his hands. He watched George jump happily towards the Gryffindor long table and clapped with the other four Weasley in House.
"Coven, you say..."
Next to him, Wood nudged Coven with his elbow and said, "Do you think that our Gryffindor will be completely occupied by Weasley's family one day?"
"You should be concerned about whether you can sign up for the team this year." Coven said with a smile, "Because there are only two empty spots."
Hearing this, Wood patted his chest confidently. "Watch carefully, Coven. You should know that I practice flying every day during the holidays."
"Speaking of which..." Coven turned to look at the professor and then asked Wood, "Why did Defense Against The Dark Arts' professor change? Where is Professor David Cross last year?"
"Don't you know?" Wood asked in surprise.
"What should I know?" Coven was puzzled. Cheêck out latest novels at novelhall.com
"Professor David, It's all over on the Daily Prophet."
Wood explained, "The professor failed to develop the curse during the holidays. He lost an arm because of the backlash from the curse, and because it was caused by black magic, the arm could only be replaced by artificial limbs in the future. That's why he resigned from his position as a professor."
"There's such a thing?" Coven was stunned. "I didn't pay much attention to the newspapers."
"GRYFFINDOR"
Sorting Hat's loud voice interrupted the conversation between Coven and Wood. Another freshman was assigned to Gryffindor. It was a girl called Patricia Stimpson.
The little girl was very nervous. Even after being sorted, her movement of walking down the stage was very stiff. When she walked down the steps, she even missed her foot. She staggered and caused the Gryffindor students to laugh kindly...
The food at the school banquet was the most sumptuous.
...
The next day, the first class of the new year was 'Defense Against The Dark Arts'.
The new professor was a middle-aged man, just like Professor David last year. He had brown curly hair and wore casual suits instead of wizard's robes.
The professor's name was Christopher Henn. His teaching method was far inferior to that of Professor David last year. He only knew how to copy the textbook and only talked about some experience.
After a big lesson, many students couldn't help but miss Professor David.
...
On the way to the canteen, Coven's classmate Benedict Shark was surrounded by several students. They heard Benedict whisper mysteriously, "Have you heard about our new professor?"
"What is it?"
"Is there any rumor?"
The surrounding students asked in low voices. Even Coven, who was walking behind them, listened attentively.
"I have heard of him before..." Benedict secretly looked left and right, then shrunk his neck and whispered to the students, "He used to work in the 'Department of International Magic Cooperation*'. But later, it was said that he was exposed because he was hooked up with several witches from other countries, so he was dismissed by the Ministry of Magic I didn't expect him to come to our Hogwarts to teach!"
[*TL Note: The Department of International Magical Co-operation was established sometime between 1798 and 1811 by Minister Artemisia Lufkin. The duties of this department were to work with magical governments of other countries, set standards for trade, create regulations for things like cauldron thickness, interpret international magical law, work with the Department of Magical Games and Sports on Triwizard Tournaments, be present at the International Confederation of Wizards, British Seats.]
"Wow..."
The surrounding students sighed, but why did their expressions look so envious and imaginative?
Coven was speechless, 'you little brats are not right.'
Shaking his head, Coven regretted listening to such gossip and immediately quickened his pace to go to the auditorium.
..
After the end of History of Magic class in the afternoon, Coven left the professor slightly eagerly and rushed to the training room on the fourth floor of the Central Tower.
Not long after, Professor Flitwick, who was in charge of watching over him, arrived.
Coven and Professor Flitwick talked about holiday life for a while. Then Coven impatiently began to ask Professor Flitwick about the problems accumulated in the holiday self-study one by one...
