The words marriage alliance echoed in Wen Qinxi's mind causing his genius brain to short circuit while blankly staring at the two zerg leaders. He wanted to congratulate them for finally gaining the ability to crack jokes but judging from their expressions this wasn't a prank of any kind though in all honesty their zerg faces always wore one expression and that expression can only be described as scary.
There was no way in hell that was happening even marrying Qie Ranzhe was a stretch how about this horrendous zerg that could easily tear him to pieces while he was asleep. What about marital duties? 'Fuck! Not going to go there,' he thought extricating himself from this horrifying line of thought. He would choose getting bitten by Qie Ranzhe any day.
"I didn't know your race has a good sense of humor," said Wen Qinxi with the corner of his lips quirked up into a smirk his back as straight as a ramrod.
The Overmind wore the same scary expression sitting right next to the Overlord before clarifying further. "Throughout history the marriage alliance was the most effective alliance strengthing ties for both parties especially in such a situation were trust is.....nonexistent," said the Overmind strongly emphasizing the last word.
Wen Qinxi was unfazed by his words but had to stir the conversation in a more progressive direction as he had other pressing matters.
In a few taps he displayed a holographic image from his communicator and said, "Believe me a marriage alliance would only lead your race into complete annihilation as I am sure you already know I promised to marry the Marshal as he's a very.....unreasonably jealous man so this is the best I can offer," said Wen Qinxi pointing at the image displaying the finalized draft of a peace treaty with the zerg.
"Do you love him that much?" asked Yagdra without any regard to whether the question was sensitive or not.
Wen Qinxi almost spit out a mouthful of blood. How was he supposed to answer that question? 'What the fuck is this? A dating game?' he thought wishing he had these many contenders in the real world at least he wouldn't be a lonely workaholic.
"Like? Yes. Love? Well.....it's a little complicated. Trust me this is the best possible outcome but the only issue is...you need to sign this with the Marshal not me," he replied with a look that seemed to say 'you better fuckin drop that subject'. Yagdra seemed to understand his meaning reading through the treaty but the Overmind wasn't at all pleased silently voicing his concerns.
"What makes you think the Marshal would agree to sign this? And why would he agree when I personally attacked his parents. Wouldn't any man seek vengeance for those who harmed his family rather than form an alliance? You terrains are famous for holding grudges," said the Overlord satisfied by the terms of the treaty that were favorable in all aspects.
"He will do it because I said so," replied Wen Qinxi as a reckless answer escaped his lips without carefully thinking it through. If the Overmind didn't mention it he wouldn't have realised the meaning behind his own words.
"So the Marshal would overlook the countless comrades lost by our hand, an assassination attempt on him and his family's life to sign this peace treaty and break bread with his enemies just because you said so?" asked the Overmind with a hint of mirth stirring up trouble, "are you really worth that much to this Marshal?"
Wen Qinxi was tongue-tied unable to answer that question. Did he truly overestimate himself or would Qie Ranzhe actually do it? While Wen Qinxi was seriously thinking this through the Overmind didn't hesitate sending over people to bring back the Marshal who was currently sedated locked up in a dungeon.
Why a dungeon? This was the safest place to keep him as the entire race knew the Marshal of the UPSF fleet, the man responsible for cutting their race in half had fallen from the sky right in their territory like a sacrificial lamb. The bystanders at that time would have torn him to shreds but the Overlord intercepted at the right time. Yagdra had promised the prince he would protect Qie Ranzhe if this ever happened but that didn't mean he had to provide the Marshal with special treatment so he didn't hesitate throwing him in a dungeon. Whatever happened inside was none of his concern as long as the Marshal didn't die he would have fulfilled his end of the bargain.
"If he refuses to sign then we would have no choice but to bring the previous proposal back on the table. I promise to treat you well if you agree to marry me," said Yagdra awaiting the Marshal's arrival but what he didn't know was that when he spoke those words Qie Ranzhe was already standing by the door with two guards escorting him into the hall of counsellars. The Marshal had fought countless battles with the zerg and it was only natural he had a basic understanding of the language. He had no time to be surprised by Zhao Xieshu's ability to understand the zerg's language as rage took over him making him act impulsive.
The half dead Marshal with a severe migraine and half-lidded bloodshot eyes suddenly woke up with a surge of anger springing up from no where. Disregarding the fact that he was in enemy territory, in two strides he suddenly grabbed hold of Yagdra's neck emitting a bone chilling aura of kill intent his eyes as deadly as a ferocious beast on a night hunt.
Yagdra was easily subdued by him but didn't freight with anger signaling to the Devourers to stand down. Wen Qinxi's face paled as he tried to separate the two with great difficulty. It was as though Qie Ranzhe couldn't hear him his grip tightenening even more. What made it worse was the amount of alpha pheromones seeping out of the angry alpha which affected Wen Qinxi. Though the effect was minimum it was enough to soften his legs. Of course, he was its only victim as to the zerg it merely smelt like an expensive perfume.
Wen Qinxi's legs couldn't hold on any longer instantly turning to jelly as he tumbled to the floor.
