With two great minds hard at work, it's only inevitable that they would butt heads. It didn't take long for Wen Qinxi and Qie Xieling to argue over how to solve problems in his workbook. They agreed with each other for the most part, the problem was when Wen Qinxi tried to change tedious formulas into short and simple solutions.
When this happened, Qie Xieling would say, "But that's what my teacher said?"
Once those words escaped Qie Xieling's mouth Wen Qinxi would scratch his hair in frustration and say, "The answer is the same. I am just showing you a shorter route to get to the moon... look, if your teacher says to get to the moon you have to circle the planet twice would you do it when you know you can just go straight for it without going around in circles?"
This was the exact same analogy he used on Wen Danzhe when he used to help him with his homework. It was only that his little brother was less stubborn when compared to Qie Xieling.
Today was no different, the two were arguing over homework again but this time it was over a school essay. Wen Qinxi read through Qie Xieling's well-written essay titled my summer vacation. At a first glance, there was nothing wrong with the essay but down the line, the details got so explicit detailing how his dad always runs away so his daddy had to chain him so they spent their summer vacation doing homework.
Wen Qinxi resolutely took a red pen and crossed out the entire report to Qie Xieling's dismay. The kid tried to get his essay back but his dad scrunched up the piece of paper and ate it.
Qie Xieling, "...."
Kids in his class had used excuses like 'my dog ate my homework' which was unbelievable so who would believe him if he said that his dad ate his homework. No one in their right mind would believe it.
"Fine..... if you are that hungry then eat it. I will just write another one," said Qie Xieling glaring at Su Xin who looked like a hamster stuffing both his cheeks with his homework. Once he said this, Qie Xieling took another piece of paper and he was about to write the essay again when a hand was slapped on top of the paper with a loud bang.
"Mm whait, I wil-ll helphu you," said Wen Qinxi with his mouth stuffed with Qie Xieling's essay.
Qie Xieling creased his brows staring at this weirdo of a father. "Huh?" he asked looking puzzled.
Wen Qinxi lifted his index finger gesturing for him to wait then stood up to go to the bathroom. After spitting out whatever was left of the essay, he walked back out and said, "I will help you.... Summer vacation has just begun, how about you leave the essay for the last few weeks of the holidays. I will give you material to write," before wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.
Qie Xieling wanted to say, "Aren't you executing your escape plan today," but he shut his mouth. Since he still had two and a half months before the vacation ends, he decided to leave the essay for later. For the rest of the afternoon, he finished all his mathematics assignments.
As soon as he was done, he heaved a long sigh and said, "I think daddy left with the key soooooo... should I get pliers or something?" One look at his face and you could tell he was dejected but he had already promised Su Xin. These past three days were amazing making it all worth it. At least he could now say he had shared memories with his dad that didn't involve getting scolded or rejected.
The excited Wen Qinxi leaned over with a twinkle in his eye. Playfully tapping the table he asked, "Would you like us to make our own key?"
Qie Xieling didn't quite understand what Su Xin meant but seeing how enthusiastic his dad was, he couldn't help but nod his head. Seeing Qie Xieling agree, Wen Qinxi smiled and took out a piece of paper.
Curious, Qie Xieling leaned in to see what his dad was drawing. Even then he still couldn't make out what Su Xin was doing so he asked, "What are you drawing?"
Wen Qinxi took a closer look at the keyhole on the chain and said, "I am drawing a skeleton key," before taking a ruler out of Qie Xieling's pencil case, "or what they call a master key."
"So you will be able to unlock any door?" asked Qie Xieling his eyes open wide in astonishment. He was thinking about how excellent it would be to have such a skill. Now he could finally take a look at the forbidden closet drawer his daddy always kept locked. This was one of the few things that Qie Xieling had in common with other kids, curiosity.
Almost every kid has that one place in the house they are forbidden to touch, a place or drawer they fantasise of opening. The more they are forbidden the greater the urge to open it and reveal its secrets. Thrilled, he leaned in closer eager to learn.
Wen Qinxi looked down at the boy who seemed eager to learn and smiled. He didn't know he was being used to open something forbidden. In under an hour, he had drawn the perfect dimensions and detailed instructions. After that, he explained to Qie Xieling each step in operating the 3D printer in Qie Ranzhe's office.
It turns out Qie Ranzhe had a 3D printer according to Su Xin's memory. This wasn't purely for fun or consumerism. This piece of equipment was used to print untraceable 3D guns for extreme circumstances especially when he needed someone to disappear without it being traced back to his organisation. Who knew his son and estranged husband would use this to their advantage.
Qie Xieling paid close attention to Su Xin's instructions and scurried out of the room to try it out. Sure enough, the boy got a hang of it after coming back three times to ask when he got stuck. Maybe it was because Qie Xieling was a smart NPC that he completed the task. When the key finished printing, Qie Xieling came back his face brimming with excitement.
He wanted to print other things so he ran over with the key and handed it over to his dad after making the man promise they would go print other things after this. Wen Qinxi also wanted to mess around with a 3D printer so he agreed while unlocking the chain.
In a few twists and turns a clicking sound was heard as the chain unlocked with ease. As soon as he was free, Qie Xieling checked if the coast was clear and immediately grabbed his dad's hand leading him to his daddy's office at the end of the corridor. The two people successfully snuck into the office and printed to their heart's content.
They printed everything from a cute cat to a miniature Goku figurine. The two were having so much fun that they even went as far as finishing the filament in the 3D printer. This officially ended their printing escapades so Wen Qinxi erased the digital trace that they messed with the 3D printer and snuck back to the bedroom once more.
