Kamiya's hair jumped up as he jerked his body to turn around. He took a wide step to reach the ice wall.
Reon's eyes shifted from Kamiya to Hitori, her mouth opened slowly and her grip on the gun loosened.
Kamiya's hair fell, and he landed on the bridge. He swung his latter leg and got close to the ice wall.
Kamiya touched his wand's tip against the wall, "levitate." he chanted and pulled his wand away.
Hitori took a step aside but soon realized he has no way to escape.
The axes had covered a good length under their radius. Hitori jumps to the right, he's dead; he jumps to the left, and he gets an ax in the middle of his face.
And not to mention, the speed at which the axes were being accelerated was somewhere above two hundred kilometers per hour.
The distance between Hitori's wand and the axes was not more than three feet, the axes had spread over the length of seven feet so even if Hitori used a spell right now, it would only take one ax down, the others will get him anyway.
Although the wands were shot from a distance of two feet between them, as they came closer to the bridge, they converged to meet at one point- Hitori's freaking face.
He was cornered. There was no way to escape the five to six axes at the same time, it was not possible to block all of the axes at the same time.
He needed distance, he wanted time, he needed a wide range spell, and he wished for a shorter arm and a shorter wand.
Hitori pulled his arm close to his ribs, "ice wall!" he moved his wand in a semi-circle. A half-wall fell on his feet, which was obviously not enough to protect him.
"Argh!!" Kamiya groaned as he pulled the ice wall with all of his strength and dropped it in front of Hitori.
Although Kamiya was using the magic spell, he had to apply his own strength to pull the wall.
Hitori's hair flew and his hood fell due to the air ripples. He pulled his arms to cover his face from the dust.
The whole bridge shook due to the impact made by the wall. Kamiya pulled his wand down with strong pressure.
Clank, clank, crash, thang.
Blocks of ice fell again when the first three axes crashed with the wall. They all collided at the same point. When the next ax crashed, it created a deep hole in the wall.
The remaining axes crashed and broke the wall from the hole. They found a breakthrough.
Kamiya held his head down, he did not know about the last ax that had passed through the wall till ice fell in the back of his head.
Kamiya raised his eyes and fell in his butt when he saw an ax only half an inch away from his eyes.
Shot!
He had expected the ax to cut through his face but he was surprised when Reon fired at the ax three times in a row.
The metal clanged with each other and Reon managed to throw the ax back on the ice wall.
The ax rebounded because it had accelerated at a high speed. Kamiya pulled his butt further away from the ax.
Dang.
Right between Kamiya's legs was the ax. The ax's blade was so sharp that it managed to cut the stones of the bridge. Kamiya glanced down at the ax between his legs, in front of his main point, with wide shocked eyes.
Hitori, hesitantly, moved his arms and looked behind him. Kamiya turned his eyes away from the ax to Hitori. Then they both turned to Reon.
Her arms were stretched in front of her chest and she held her gun in her right hand, "You should not waste your mana, you know." she was breathing heavily. The constant fear of something had exhausted her, "you could have pulled the wall,"
Kamiya stared at her, "that could not have been the fastest way,"
"I do not have any more mana recovery potions…"
"Yeah, about that…" Kamiya grunted as he got up from the bridge, "why did you even have those potions with you?" Kamiya kept his wand on the leather cover.
"Well…" she sighed and pulled her shaking hands down, "you never know when situations like that might come up, do you?"
[you have cleared three fourth of the bridge, entered the final phase of the floor]
Hitori read the notification with a calm expression. Hitori glanced around and got up from the ground too.
Kamiya and Reon's eyes fell on Hitori as he walked up to the ice wall and pulled his katana.
Hitori turned his eyes, "nice support… partners." He brought his katana in front of his face and lit it in flames.
The ice melted and the flames calmed. Hitori opened his mouth to say something but a half-human, half-cattle roar interrupted him.
Hitori froze for a second then dropped his head, "god… no."
Kamiya and Reon turned their heads behind them from where they heard the humanoid roar. Hitori walked up to them and said, "yes, Reon-san," he whispered in her ear then, "I think we will have to face monsters on the bridge."
Reon gulped. Her face went pale and she gulped again. Kamiya on the other hand pulled his wand out. Hitori took a step away from Reon, he put on his katana and took out his wand.
Hitori looked at Reon, "Reon-san…" he nodded. She nodded without looking at him.
Another roar but it sounded closer than the previous one. Suddenly, the whole bridge started shaking.
"Aah!" Reon shrieked and grabbed Kamiya's arm, "n- no, no, no…" she chanted continuously.
Kamiya looked down at her, Hitori looked at her but then they both looked at the minotaur.
"Oi…" Hitori muttered, "that one is… bigger than the ones I have ever seen." he declared.
Kamiya nodded, "me too. Even the Minotaur boss is only a little bigger than this."
It was half the size greater than the ones at Hogosha dungeon. Hitori previously reached their chest or shoulder but now… he reached only its upper abdomen.
"Reon-san," Kamiya called, "Hey, snap out of it." but she did not listen. Kamiya glanced at Hitori.
"What is wrong with her? She was not scared even of the ghost this much." Hitori frowned.
"Reon-san?" Kamiya called her once again. The bridge started shaking harder. He lifted his head to see an approaching minotaur with a hammer in its hands.
Hitori rushed forward, and Kamiya bit his lips, "for god's sake, Reon-san!" Kamiya grabbed her by her neck and pulled her away from his shoulder.
She looked at Kamiya with a terrified expression, "snap out of it, will you?! It is just a god damn bull!"
Reon dropped her head down. She took a few deep breaths. Kamiya did not say anything to her. Reon then pulled her hands away from Kamiya's T-shirt.
Slowly, she raised her head, "h- half-human, h- half bull."
Kamiya could not help but grin and nod, "yeah… that is right. Stay strong, Reon-san." she sniffed and nodded with a hum.
"Kamiya, Reon-san," Hitori called, "I might need some cover."
