Reon lifted the gun and pushed the magazine inside the gun. She lowered the gun around her waist, grabbed the barrel, and released it.
Hitori raised the legendary wand near his chin. He was still holding Reon's hand as he glanced from the corner. He saw the wall that turned around the corner and met the veranda.
"No shield from this point onwards," Hitori muttered. He pulled his head back and looked at Reon, she nodded.
"It will only require a second unless the other men see us."
"They would not. The fog and rain blinded them. Only if Tengoku was a few meters away," Hitori said.
"Nah, we will do it, Hitori. Let us go." Reon smiled, although she was scared of the situation they were in and the step she was going to take.
Hitori started walking to the veranda with his back against the wall and Reon behind him. "Right, we do not need some rain to kill our enemy. We can do that much," he said.
"That much? I have never killed anyone."
"Neither have I. But the men we have to face have. Tens or hundreds of people. So if we want to kill them, act like them."
His heart picked up the speed as he closed to the end of the dining hall wall. Just around the corner and they will expose themselves to the men and Tengoku.
The woods on his side were standing still, the woods were still as dark as they could be. As he got close to the turn, he could feel the cold of summer due to the storm and the strong wind that was blowing people everywhere.
Hitori stopped right at the turn, he peeked on the other side and saw the storm taking over the front yard. The trees had backed down and the rain was pouring hard.
Akira's fire had extinguished, the fog was almost gone too, and Hitori could not see any man attacking or eating another man. So Kyoryu's spell was over too.
"W-Who cast that cloud? Kyo-san?"
Hitori came back. His head almost bumped into Reon, but she moved back and saved the moment from turning awkward. "NO," he shook his head, "Kakashi did."
Her eyes widened. "Kakashi? But he must be in a bad condition due to the trees— do not tell me!"
"Yes. Is he in my bed? I thought it was my fault he was knocked out, but now that I see his spell holding against the army, I am grateful he did it."
"Is he going to be alright, though?" she asked.
"He is just unconscious. He will be alright if we turn out alright. Take a look at your target." He pulled her by his side and let her take a look at the veranda.
"He trying to cut through the shield on the door."
"Can you take an aim?"
She stared at him, and he frowned. "To aim, I need my hand. Which is in your ha—"
He released it before she could complete the sentence.
With a giggle, Reon pulled her gun. Her hand touched the corner and she had trouble keeping the gun's front steady on Tengoku. "Just a little forward. If we had a bush or a tree we could hide behind," she almost hit her face when she turned, "it would be easy then."
"It is perfect for me, but you need…" His voice faded as he fell into deep thinking.
"Eya-nee can not provide a shield down here, can she?" She knew the answer, yet she said something for the sake of suggesting an option.
"No, she can not. That is the problem. We can not go out without her protection—" He stopped.
"How about… you take the shot, come back while I fire a bullet. The men would know by then, so you will cover me…?"
Hitori shook his head. "If Eya can not protect us, then we will protect ourselves." Hitori stretched his hand, a smile spread on his face as he summoned a shield.
Reon watched in surprise– how could she forget they can use shields too– as Hitori rotated his arm in circles and created a circular shield.
The silver glow disappeared when Hitori stopped rotating his arm. Now the wand was holding the shield for him.
"It would not be strong enough to last any longer than Eya-nee's shields, but it will hold for long enough," Hitori said as he gave Reon a glance and walked out.
"Hitori!" she shouted, but then lowered her voice.
"I will petrify him," he said. Hitori bent a little and held his wand in front of him. "Then you shoot him on the head. And remember, this is our last chance." Hitori looked at Reon with hopeful eyes.
She could not reject that plan, so she nodded. "I am right behind you."
"Come out when I shout, 'Petrify.'" She heard him even under the noise Tengoku's men were making.
Some were grabbing their guns back, some threw something on the ground that prevented them from lying away. Hitori glanced at the constant rain. It would be ten minutes soon, yet the rain showed no sign of slowing down.
Hitori rose when he crossed the turning. His eyes fell on Tengoku standing in front of the door. He raised his katana to strike the shield.
Hitori shifted the wand to his left hand and raised his right. He took a deep breath and shouted, "Petrify."
He saw the glint in Tengoku's eyes as they turned to him, saying to him, 'Did you think I can not see you?'
Hitori, knowing what would happen next, moved back and bent near the corner. He turned to grab Reon and stop her, Tengoku had seen him, there was no point in attacking, but she was gone.
Hitori saw a flash of her long purple hair as she went by, then his eyes fell on her legs as she jumped out and held her gun forward.
His eye went wide. Hitori pushed himself away from the wall. "Reon!"
With the shield in front of him, Hitori leaped at her, in the hope of landing in front of her and in time.
