Chapter 23 - “The director team informed us that they no longer need us for the new role.” (1)

The little assistant gave Gu Nian a very profound look. Had there been a supertitle that displayed what was going through his head, it would have shown something along the line of: Oh, just another woman lusting after Luo Xiu.

Gu Nian felt that she had been misunderstood but she couldn’t clear her own name.

All she could do was to give the “hostage”, The Son-Raising Diary, a longing look while she plotted about how to save it as she bid her farewell in tears. “That’s it about the role for the time being. My team will finish up the lines and scenes by this weekend at the latest. I will see you then in the production cast.”

Luo Xiu nodded nonchalantly. “Alright.”

“I am taking off now. Goodnight, Mr. Luo Xiu.”

“……” Luo Xiu paused for a quick second before he looked up. “Alright.”

Gu Nian picked up her bag and made her way out. When she walked past the little assistant, she tried to stop herself but finally failed. Leaning over to him, she said, “I know there’s a pretty decent restaurant in town that opens till pretty late.”

The little assistant, “Huh?”

Gu Nian gave him a judgmental look. “My so…. Luo Xiu has lost a lot of weight, don’t you think?”

“He has?”

The little assistant looked up, baffled. Looking past the not-too-tall girl, he checked out his boss’s side profile.

The man was leaning back in the chair. His shirt hung straightly on his shoulders. His arms slender and long, and his fingers interlaced as he looked boringly at the night outside of the window.

Hiding behind his lens, the emotions in his eyes had long since returned to their cold state.

The little assistant turned back around guiltily and said, “Oh? Is that so? I’ll be sure to remind Brother Luo in intaking nutrients during his meals.”

Gu Nian sighed painfully. “Even though he makes a much better model this way and would look good dressed in anything, but it’s not good to be too skinny. It’s bad for one’s health…”

Gu Nian’s volume lowered and she felt more and more uncomfortable as she thought about it.

No way. She needed to ask this little assistant on their social network app tomorrow to find out whatever happened to all the supplements that she had been sending. How was it that her precious son would look so skinny up close?

Aye. If only she could take him out to dinner every night and fatten him up some…

Gu Nian finally walked out of Luo Xiu’s room with the sadness of an old mother.

Not sure what to make of Gu Nian’s comment, the little assistant walked over to Luo Xiu’s chair after she left and said, “Brother Luo, what’s with that screenwriter?”

Luo Xiu turned around.

The little assistant bent down and said to him in a lowered voice, “She cares so much about your well being and bid you goodnight. Do you think she’s hinting at sexual favors from you?”

Luo Xiu lowered his eyes. The smile in his eyes looked like shattered glass that were reflecting off cold lights. “If that was the case, she didn’t need to jump through so many hoops.”

The little assistant looked at him, baffled, and asked, “Huh? What hoops are we talking about?”

Before Luo Xiu responded to his question, his cellphone that had been sitting on the coffee table next to him vibrated slightly. The screen turned on and a text came in from a series of numbers with no name associated with it.

The little assistant glanced at it reflexively and asked, “Who’s the text from? Does the production team need you for something?”

Luo Xiu paused for a second, picked up his phone casually, and said, “It’s from Gu Nian.”

“Who?”

“The screenwriter.”

“Oh, oh. That’s right. Her name is Gu Nian.”

“……”

There were two messages, sent back and back:

[Your assistant was there before I took off so I didn’t want to say anything. Don’t worry. I won’t tell anyone about what happened tonight!]

[Don’t worry. Just focus on your acting career! I have faith that you will become very popular one day!]

Luo Xiu put his phone back down and leaned back into his chair. Two seconds later, the little assistant suddenly heard a soft chuckle coming from the man.

The little assistant looked up, baffled. He wished he could see the content of the texts – he has yet to see anything that could actually make his boss laugh.
