Chapter 33 - For the first time in his life, he was distracted in the middle of his meditation. (1)
Inside their residence that night.
Gu Nian, rolling around for the 179th time on her bed while clutching onto the blanket and her cellphone, had tears in her eyes.
“Woowoowoo, Nantian, wouldn’t you agree that my precious son is especially simple, especially kind, and especially cute?”
“……”
“He could have just let me handle it all but he stood up nonetheless, while bearing the risk of offending the director!”
“……”
“What if he had offended the director and his parts are cut? He didn’t think about himself at all. How is he so kind and so angel-like? T^T”
“……”
After a long silent, Lin Nantian let out a long sigh from the other end of the phone. “You felt touched the entire afternoon and evening over just this?”
“Not just this. We are talking about the love coming from my son.” Gu Nian rolled for the 180th times and clenched her fists. “Besides, I worked on the script in the afternoon. I am going to dedicate every single minute in creating a character that would gain a lot of fans for my precious son!”
Lin Nantian smacked herself over her forehead. “Not to rain on your parade but, from what you have told me, don’t you feel that even though he had stood up and spoke up for you, but he had also completely offended Zhuo Yixuan for you?”
There was silence in the air.
Gu Nian let go of the blanket and sat up with a very solemn look. “You mean to say that my son was actually using me to draw Zhuo Yixuan’s aggro away from him. That way we will be at each other’s throat while he stays out of it and he would be able to have Zhuo Yixuan distracted and thereby leaving him alone?”
Lin Nantian, “……”
Lin Nantian shuddered and said, “Is it always this scary when you screenwriters come up with conspiracy theories?”
Some clothing was hung from the beam of the room and the girl’s face was half hidden in their shadows. The room was silent all of a sudden and the girl’s look was difficult to read.
After a little while, however, Gu Nian looked up and broke into a smile. “That’s not possible. My precious son is an angle walking on earth. You shouldn’t try to paint him in such negative light.”
Lin Nantian, “?”
Lin Nantian, “You were the one who said all those.”
Gu Nian, “I only paraphrased what you have said.”
Lin Nantian, “……”
She gave up on getting into a sophistry with someone who write scripts for a living.
Lin Nantian wouldn’t have been able to carry on with that conversation with Gu Nian anyway. Half way through their phone call, a chime entered from Gu Nian’s end signifying that she had another call coming in.
Gu Nian pulled her cellphone away from her and looked at the screen. She then said to Lin Nantian. “Looks like the director team had made a decision. We will talk later.”
“Alright.”
Gu Nian picked up the call from Assistant Director Lin.
Assistant Director Lin cut straight to the chase. “Xiao Gu, we have already made a decision on the editing of the script.”
Gu Nian, “Okay, go ahead.”
Assistant Director Lin, “We can tell that you regard your ownership with your script highly and are also more familiar with it than Screenwriter Zhuo, so we will have your team work on the initial and middle stages of editing the script.”
Gu Nian paused for a second, “There will be a late stage as well?”
“Think of it as the audit stage.” Assistant Director Lin softened up his tone. “Screenwriter Zhuo is, after all, our screenwriter by name. We should run it through her before we finalize it. If she really has any problems with it, you can work it out then.”
“……”
“What? You are still not happy with this outcome? I have talked Director Geng’s ears off just for you.”
After a little while of silence, Gu Nian’s eyes sparkled a little and she had her mind made up. Her eyes curved as she chuckled. “Thank you so much, Director Lin. We will give the script our best.”
“Alright, alright. I am glad you can understand where we are coming from. You don’t have a lot of time. You don’t want others to be able to pick on your work.”
“Right.”
When Qin Yuanyuan and Jiang Xiaoqing returned, Gu Nian gave the two the news.
Jiang Xiaoqing looked at Gu Nian with even more respect after she heard the news. “Wow, you can even convince the director team. You are for sure our Master Gu Nian!”
Gu Nian’s eyes were curved and she wasn’t able to hide her happiness. “It wasn’t me who convinced them.”
“Oh? Who else could it be if it wasn’t you?” Looking at Gu Nian’s lively eyes, something occurred to her. “Judging from how happy you are, could it be…”
“You are exactly right,” said Gu Nian pridefully. “It was all my precious son’s credit!”
And she retold the story once again from the perspective of an old mother.
