Chapter 53 - Was the some suppressed emotions in his eyes? (1)
The silence hung on the tie that had been gripped for a long time and finally drop with a glance from Luo Xiu.
The man’s voice was deep and there was an almost undetectable hint of coldness hidden in the tenderness. “Asking me that in a public place? What an interesting choice, Miss Gu.”
Gu Nian: … … Hmm?
Was that a compliment from her precious son?
She wasn’t really following Luo Xiu’s logic but that didn’t stop the unsuspecting old mother from responding humbly to what he had said. “No, no. It just occurred to me suddenly was all.”
“What kind of an answer does Miss Gu wish to hear?”
“Who? Me?” Gu Nian was surprised.
“Mmhmm.” Luo Xiu looked up, almost looking profound. “Since you’ve picked to ask me right here and right now, I trust that Miss Gu is well prepared for whatever my answer might be?”
Gu Nian was dumbfounded. “Um, I guess so… I will always be supportive of you whichever way you want to go!”
Luo Xiu smiled when he heard that answer. He didn’t seem convinced. “Is that so?”
“That is so!”
Luo Xiu did not carry on the conversation of how much truth there was in what she had said. In his mind, the truth was only too obvious. “I would like to listen to Miss Gu’s suggestion though.”
Gu Nian was taken aback a little then, tears welled up in her eyes. “You are so respectful to mom…, ahem, my thoughts?”
“Mmhmm. After all, Miss Gu was the one who brought this up.”
“… …”
Gu Nian instantly felt two huge mountains landing on her two shoulders. The one on the left was “motherly love” and the right, “responsibilities” –
Was this feeling of being both mom and dad what people refer to as the “sweet burden”?
There were tears in Gu Nian’s eyes.
She was finally going to grow into the good mother that was recognized by her precious son.
Under her sweet burden, Gu Nian, completely oblivious to the fact that she was gripping even tighter onto the tie, said in all of her seriousness. “If at all possible, I suggest for you to focus on your career and wait on your relationship.”
“… …”
Luo Xiu was taken aback a little.
The unexpected answer made him look up. His brown eyes behind his lens captured the image of the girl.
Gu Nian interpreted his look as a wordless protest. She sighed and said, “I understand that you are young, full of vigor, can be impulsive and would want to be in a relationship.”
Luo Xiu, “… …?”
Gu Nian was still trying to persuade him. “But, Mr. Luo Xiu, your career had just started to take off. Opportunities don’t come by easily and you need to hold onto them. If you get into a relationship with Zong Shizi now, it could very well divert both your attention and your popularity with the public…”
“Hang on a second.”
“Huh?” Gu Nian looked up.
“Who did you say I am going to be in a relationship with?”
“Zong Shizi.”
“Who is she?”
“… …”
It was Gu Nian’s turn to be speechless. A few seconds later, Gu Nian let go of the tie and facepalmed. She sounded slightly irritated. “Mr. Luo Xiu, you will offend many people at this rate… Zong Shizi is the female lead of Demons, the one who is going to have intimate scenes with you tomorrow.”
Luo Xiu, “So, when you asked if I want to be in a relationship, you were talking about her and I?”
“Yes.”
“I don’t know her.”
“I know that. But you will meet each other tomorrow, right? Then the two of you will have intimate scenes together. Miss Zong is pretty and cute. It will only be normal for you to grow fond of her over the course of the filming…”
Luo Xiu had it figured out by the time Gu Nian was done talking. “I see. Miss Gu was testing me.”
Gu Nian, “… Oh?”
“What would you like me to do?”
“What, what do you mean?”
“Keep a distance from Zong Shizi?” Luo Xiu overlooked the fact that Gu Nian was “playing dumb”. He looked up at her, his voice deep, and the smile in his eyes were seductive and cold. “Will that be sufficient?”
