Chapter 124 - Is the motherly love starting to turn? (2)

“I was the one who started it. It has nothing to do with anyone else,” said Mei Jiating.

Gu Nian, “?”

With her fists clenched, she walked stiffly forward, passing Gu Nian. “I will clarify the rumor. You don’t need to worry anymore, Screenwriter Gu. I was unhappy that Mr. Luo had turned me down and I happened to see the two of you together that night so I just made it up because I was drunk… nobody was out there plotting against Mr. Luo.”

She stopped next to Luo Xiu when she was done talking.

The man seemed disengaged from what she was saying as well as her reactions, as though he truly didn’t know or didn’t care about any of that.

Even know, he merely turned his body some and made room for her to pass with a tender smile on him.

Tender…

Tender her @$$!

His existence could rival that of a poisonous snake, a vicious beast, a mean dragon, or a demon king. She, and the rest, were all blind to think that he was naïve and gullible.

Intimidated, Mei Jiating avoided his look. Not daring to look over in his direction again, she hurried out of the room.

“Aye…”

Gu Nian ran up a couple of steps when she recollected herself.

“You don’t need to follow her anymore.” Lin Xi turned and looked over at the girl. The thin and superficial smile on him landed on something real.

The corners of his eyes that had been raised came back down. “Hadn’t she already apologized and promised that she will clarify the rumor?”

Gu Nian stopped in her track, feeling regretful. “But I haven’t gotten out of her who was behind it all.”

“I think she did answer your question.”

“You can’t just take her words for it. You are too gullible, Mr. Luo Xiu.” Gu Nian sighed. “I feel that there are more to it. I just hadn’t expected her to be this loyal to whoever that is behind this… Could it be someone whom she was close to or that their stakes align with each other’s?”

“You are overthinking this.”

“Oh?”

Gu Nian looked up. She hadn’t even had a chance to see the look on the man before she felt that she was stroked on her head. The deep and melodious voice from the man leaning down toward her said, “Overthinking can cause hair loss, Gu Nian.”

“--- ---?”

Gu Nian was stupefied.

First it was because of the painful fact that her precious son had stroked her on her head. Then it was because of how he had referred to her.

Before today, Luo Xiu had only referred to her by her name once. It was the day of his birthday, inside room 717 when he interrupted her conjecting with a mildly cold tone.

The way he said “Gu Nian” today was very different that the other day, however.

It was so tender that it could be carved into her bones.

For no reason whatsoever, her mind went blank and Gu Nian felt that both of her cheeks were burning up as though they had been lit.

Her rationality barely had time to let out a shriek before it was turned into dust.

At loss, Gu Nian continued to think blankly.

Oh, yeah.

Ever since that one time, that very day, and that very moment, he seemed to have never addressed her as “Miss Gu” again.

The man removed his hand.

The voice, deep, as though coming from right next to her ears, was tender as usual. “It’s almost time for filming. Let’s head out together?”

“… … Okay.”

Spellbound like a marionette, Gu Nian walked out of the rest area held by Luo Xiu.

They walked into two familiar faces right away.

Both of them looked at Luo Xiu’s slender and long fingers holding onto Gu Nian’s wrist through her thin shirt and were stumped at the same time.

Then both of their looks became twisted simultaneously.

Gu Nian, amidst her ability to rationalize that had been turned into ashes, seemed to recall that -- --

These were their big shot makeup artist and his assistant makeup artist.

The assistant makeup artist looked mortified.

The big shot makeup artist’s look twisted to an extreme and, with a loud roar, lunged at them -- --

“Haven’t I already said that I don’t care if your head fall off you are to maintain the makeup and hairdo the way it was?? Who? Who touched her hair??!”

“… …”

The air went dead silent for a few seconds.

Gu Nian came to and quickly struggled free from Luo Xiu’s grip. She looked up frantically at Luo Xiu.

Luo Xiu’s fine eyelashes flickered.

Turning, he suppressed the slight bluish look when he saw his now-emptied hand. When he looked up again, his smile was tender and apologetic.

“I’m sorry. I got into character a little earlier than expected.”
