Chapter 138 - "Right. Spare the rod, spoil the child." (1)

Perhaps influenced by the hospitable nature of the locals, the banquet was very lively. It was almost like a wedding banquet in some perspective.

There were over ten big, round tables in the dining hall and 6 ~ 7 or sometimes up to 10 people were seated at each of them, starting from the most important individuals in the middle of the room and radiating out progressively.

As, as members of the unofficial screenwriter team, Gu Nian and the others were arranged at a table almost at the very corner of the dining hall.

“Yuanyuan, how come Gu Nian is still not here yet?” Jiang Xiaoqing asked worrily as she stared intensely at the entrance to the dining hall.

“I asked her over the phone earlier. I think she was chatting with Luo Xiu about the characters in the script. They must be so engrossed in their chat that they had forgotten about the time.”

“They have so much to talk about?” said Jiang Xiaoqing.

After Qin Yuanyuan had nodded, she hesitated for a few seconds before she asked, with uncertainty, “Xiaoqing, do you feel that Luo Xiu is particularly nice to Gu Nian?”

“……?”

Baffled, Jiang Xiaoqing turned around. “Are you sure you don’t mean it the other way round? You meant to say that our Gu Nian is particularly nice to Luo Xiu, right?”

“But I’ve heard that that Zhuo Yi… ahem, that fake Mengzhi beauty screenwriter whom you hate, is also interested in Luo Xiu, let alone the others on the team. Yet, Luo Xiu seems to only be close with Gu Nian?”

Jiang Xiaoqing gave it a thought, then nodded. “You are right.”

“I have a suspicion. Could Luo Xiu have that kind of … toward Gu Nian?” said Qin Yuanyuan.

Qin Yuanyuan knocked on the table to gesture as she talked.

“No way!” Jiang Xiaoqing’s eyes widened.

“Ugh, perhaps because Gu Nian was particularly nice to him so he is reciprocating?” said Jiang Xiaoqing.

“Hmmm…”

Before the two of them could come to a conclusion, Jiang Xiaoqing’s cellphone vibrated.

“It’s Gu Nian!” Jiang Xiaoqing picked up the phone quickly and dragged out her voice. “Guru Gu Nian, why aren’t you here yet?”

“We’ve just arrived.”

“You are here already?”

Jiang Xiaoqing stood up when she heard that and looked over at the entrance to the dining hall.

Sure enough, at the end of the red carpet that was placed specifically in the dining hall, she could see a tall and a short silhouettes coming through the door side by side.

Both of them were dressed casually. The man on the left had on a white casual shirt with light strips and lack trousers and the girl on the right, a lavender dress with black strappy sandals.

Many attended tonight’s event formally dressed. In comparison, both of them were very “plain”.

Lo and behold, both of them were extraordinarily good looking so their outfits were just secondary. They caught almost everyone’s attention from the tables nearby when they walked in and quickly became the focus of many.

Jiang Xiaoqing could tell that the voice from the phone seemed to have come from a little further away, like the girl had turned to talk to the one next to her. She kept her voice low, “Maybe we shouldn’t have come together.”

“It’s alright. Don’t mind them.”

A low chuckle, too, came over the phone, sounding seductive even through two phones.

Jiang Xiaoqing was taken aback a little and gave Qin Yuanyuan a you-just-might-be-onto-something look.

Before the two could talk about it some more, Gu Nian returned to the phone. “So which table are you two at?”

“Oh.” Jiang Xiaoqing recollected herself. “Yuanyuan and I are in the southwestern corner. The one close to the window. I am standing up right now. You will see us as you start walking this direction.”

“Mmm, mmm. Okay.”

After hanging up the phone, Jiang Xiaoqing turned and said, “You are right. Now even I suspect that Luo Xiu had other intentions toward our Guru Gu Nian.”

Qin Yuanyuan, “What should we do then? Do we tell Gu Nian?”

“No, that won’t do any good.”

“Why wouldn’t it?”

“Only not-so-smart people like me likes to listen to others’ direction opinions and believes.” Jiang Xiaoqing wasn’t shy as talking down about herself. “But Gu Nian is very smart. The problem with smart people like her is that they like to question everything. As long as she didn’t arrive at that conclusion on her now, telling it to her directly would only make her want to rebel against it.”

Qin Yuanyuan thought about it for a few seconds and smiled. “I think you are quite smart yourself. What do you think we should do then?”

“Naturally, we should obverse issues from our perspective and lead her to see them from her perspective!” said Jiang Xiaoqing.

“Okay, you do it.”

“Okay!”
