Chapter 178 - “I can explain…..” (1)
A rock stirred up a wall of wave.
Two years ago, Enlighten Me was voted the number one song online. It was said to have been widely sung throughout all streets and alleys. It was once hailed as the song that was able to “break the barrier of traditional music”.
Mengzhi, the composer and singer of the song, had suddenly pulled out of the entertainment circle and disappeared. That made this genius work a song swan of sort and the mass was generous in assigning a halo to the work of the genius who had “passed away”. That had, inadvertently, allow the song to leave a lasting impression with the mass.
As such, even though it had been two years since Mengzhi was last heard of, her reappearance still stirred up a lot of turbulences.
Without any forces pushing it, this incident might slowly settle down over time but, obviously, not everyone wished for that to happen.
In the headquarter of Dingke Media.
Inside the office of Zheng Haolei, the general manager.
Sitting in front of his computer, the man’s brows furrowed and he couldn’t look any unhappier He stared gravely at the computer screen and his blue tooth mouse crackled under his grip.
On the screen was, apparently, the status update that Mengzhi had just posted.
It was only posted three minutes ago but the comments under it were increasing at an exponential pace.
As the popularity of this post increased, Zheng Haolei’s face resembled coal color more and more.
Suddenly, he heard a knocking on his office door.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
It sounded almost urgent.
“C’mon in,” said Zheng Haolei in a deep voice.
His secretary popped her head out, “Boss Zheng, Miss Zhuo called again”
A vein popped on Zheng Haolei’s forehead. “Haven’t I already told you to tell her that I am in a meeting and have no time to talk to her?”
The pretty secretary turned pale and gave the man whose attitude had an 180 degree change soon as he rolled out of bed an aggrieved look and said in a low voice, “I, I did tell her but she said she is going to come straight to the company if you don’t answer her call within 10 minutes and, and……”
“And what?” asked Zheng Haolei coldly.
“She also said that if you don’t care someone seeing her coming to the office and figured out what happened back in the days, then she didn’t care either……”
“!”
Zheng Haolei’s look turned vicious.
A few seconds later, he turned his head away with a gloomy look. “Dang it. That crazy woman!” The secretary had never seen Zheng Haolei this angry before. “So, she’s still on the line. What do you want me to do?”
“Transfer it over to me!”
“O, okay.”
The secretary quickly closed the door and left.
Zheng Haolei picked up his phone on his desk and, a few seconds after he had the receiver next to his ear, he heard a frantic woman’s voice, “Zheng Haolei, you guaranteed me back then!!”
Zheng Haolei sneered. “Watch your image, Miss Zhuo. It is beneath you to be so rude and it doesn’t fit the pretty screenwriter and peaceful image that you are trying to create for yourself.”
“Knock that off already!” Zhuo Yixuan was so angry that her voice was high-pitched. “You guaranteed me that the original owner of [Mengzhi] would never show up or make any public announcements again! I would never have implied that I am Mengzhiin front of the public had you not gave me that guarantee – and to provide this opportunity for her to faceslap me!!”
Zheng Haolei chuckled and leaned back into his leather boss chair. His finger tapped on its armrest rhythmically. “Miss Zhuo, are you saying that this is all my fault now? Was I the one who forced you to adopt [Mengzhi]’s identity?”
“……”
“Allow me to remind you. You were the one who came to me because you didn’t want your reputation ruined after you have ‘borrowed’ what belonged to Mengzhi and was caught red handed. It was you who found out that it was my company that had a contract with Mengzhi and you wanted to get hold of her through me and resolve the issue with money.”
“You!”
Being called out, Zhuo Yixuan was so angry that her voice was dull but she didn’t have a retort.
