Chapter 209 - "She is smart enough to know the subtext." (2)
Surprised, Gu Nian asked, “What is this?”
Qi Han looked straight forward. Staring nervously at the top of the document folder that Gu Nian was holding in her hand, he sounded like he was reciting a speech, “This is a variety show project that our company is currently working on. In consideration of a lack of screenwriters with originality on the market and the distrust and demands from audiences for quality screenwriter, the goal of our program is to discover screenwriters of high quality or with high potential to sign with our company and provide them with the capital and platform for their work.”
“……”
Gu Nian and the others were in different stages of daze.
Gu Nian was the first to recollect herself. Frowning, she asked, “So the purpose of your variety show is to discover screenwriters?”
“That’s correct.”
Gu Nian, “Compared to the shows that gear toward discovering actors or talents, do you think that your purpose is a little bit on the strange side?”
Babyface could not have looked more serious. “You don’t need to worry about that, screenwriter Gu. This program is still in its confidential stage but just leave those up to the screenwriters of our show –– we are very confident in the ratings and variety of this show.”
Gu Nian quickly flipped through the not-top-long proposal.
The details were confidential with the exception that the guests’ physical and mental help would not be threatened. At the very end, very tempting rewards for the participants and the winner of the show were also listed.
Anyway she looked at it, it was a pie that had fallen from the sky.
Gu Nian closed up the document folder. Not showing much emotion, she said, “Speaking of. I don’t think I have asked how you were able to find us.”
Qi Han was prepared for that one. “Ms. Gu was the lead screenwriter for Demons. Our general manager happened to have seen it and he liked the script a lot.”
Gu Nian was taken aback a little. “Your…… general manager? Are we talking about the boss of BH Media?”
“You can say that. He works in the background of BH Media and does not hold an actual position.”
Gu Nian nodded.
Qi Han added, “In addition, our general manager also knows Director Geng Hongyu, the director of Demons, on a personal level and Director Geng strongly recommended Screenwriter Gu and had provided to us your contact information and address. We worried that you might not believe us if we just called you so we thought we would just come in person.”
“……”
Gu Nian thought the whole thing through once and didn’t find any holes in it. She was also not able to see what they could gain from lying to her.
Now that she had mostly believed in the identity and the purpose of the man here, Gu Nian was less alarmed.
She asked, “So Mr. Qi is here to invite us to join this Gold-Medal Screenwriter show?”
“……”
Qi Han had a peculiar pause.
Noticing that something was off, Gu Nian looked up and looked at him seriously. “Mr. Qi can just be outright with any issues there may be.”
After a slight hesitation, he looked cautiously over at the two girls to Gu Nian’s left and right before he quickly looked away. “Pardon me, Screenwriter Gu. Specifically speaking, we are only inviting you.”
“––“
The living room fell silent.
A few seconds later, Gu Nian’s look was cold and her voice a teasing tone, “Is Mr. Qi joking with me? Demons is the product of the three of us. I am not going to take all the credit myself.”
“Pardon me.” The boy with babyface lowered his head, almost looking like he was intimidated but he wasn’t about to budge. “As far as I know, the outline and character sets of Demons, aka the core part of the script was completed by Screenwriter Gu and Screenwriter Gu alone.”
Gu Nian clenched her fists slightly. “That only meant they weren’t involved; not that they weren’t able to be involved.”
Babyface boy said regretfully, “We can only look at what has happened. We cannot base our judgement on a Schrodinger situation.”
The atmosphere was stiff.

Translator’s rambling:
This TL had missed that the show was named “Gold-Medal Screenwriter” because our MC had said “I am going to become a gold-medal screenwriter for [my son]” when she was drunk. LOL
