Later that night, inside the little apartment where the screenwriter team resided.
Next to the counter, the three low-level screenwriters stared solemnly at the document laying on top of the counter.
The atmosphere was serious like that of an election.
After a long silence.
Gu Nian looked up, “What are you guys’ thoughts?”
“What can we think?” Jiang Xiaoqing could barely contain herself. She grabbed hold of Gu Nian. “Say yes, of course! This is a variety television show. And one done by a decent company at that! It’s such a rare opportunity. We would go above and beyond for an opportunity like this, let alone that it had presented itself in front of us!”
Being cut off, Qin Yuanyuan had no choice but to nod. “I agree with what Xiaoqing had said.”
Gu Nian, after some hesitation, still spoke her mind, “But they did offer you two the opportunity to get on the show directly.”
“Well, Babyface wasn’t entirely wrong,” said Jiang Xiaoqing with a smile. “You have been the one responsible for the core story on our team. It makes sense that they would pick you based on meritocracy.”
Gu Nian frowned and wanted to say something else.
“Hang on. I’m not done talking yet,” said Jiang Xiaoqing with her chin resting on her palm. “And, I felt that their offer was quite sincere. You brought up the point that you didn’t want to take all the credit and they agreed to it – honestly, I am quite happy with the opportunity that I was given already. What about you, Yuanyuan?”
Qin Yuanyuan nodded and looked at Gu Nian seriously. “You have your set of principles and I have mine. I don’t want what isn’t meant to be mine. I would much prefer that my ability is recognized – if I am not yet good enough, I can keep working on improving myself and not just rely on the glory of my friend. What is the point of that, then?”
“……”
What more could Gu Nian say to that?
She smiled and said, “Alright, let’s all work toward becoming gold medal screenwriters and getting on Gold Medal Screenwriters!”
“Okay!”
The three smacked their hands together. Gu Nian was just about to bring her hands back when they were grabbed by Jiang Xiaoqing.
Jiang Xiaoqing smiled at her in a teasing way, “Guru Gu Nian, tell us the truth now. The happiest news today isn’t that you can join the show directly, or that Yuanyuan and I also had an opportunity to join, but your precious son, right?”
Gu Nian was taken aback a little, “I am delighted at the opportunity, but……”
“But what?”
Gu Nian lowered her head and looked at the black BH Media logo on the contract.
She then frowned slightly. “I can’t shake this feeling that it was as though the responsible person at this company knew that I have a specific actor in mind and made this offer specifically.”
Qin Yuanyuan and Jiang Xiaoqing were startled.
“Now that you’ve mentioned that……”
“Oh darn. That’s scary sounding. Could that be Zheng Haolei again?”
“I don’t think so?”
“What are you going to do then, Gu Nian?”
“……”
Gu Nian looked up after some pondering.
Inside BH Media’s building at the same time.
The office on the top floor was well lit at night and bright light came pouring out of the distant décor of the office.
Qi Han, who had just returned, looked shocked, “Oh right. Wouldn’t Ms. Gu think that we know something in this case?”
Luo Xiu nodded behind the desk. “Most likely.”
Qi Han recollected himself and asked anxiously, “Then all of our plans have gone down the drain then??”
“No, they haven’t.”
“Huh? Ms. Gu has such a cautious personality. Why would she still join the variety television show if she had suspicions about our intention?”
“She will accept it.”
“Eh? But why would she??”
“Because I never meant to hide that fact.”
“……?”
Luo Xiu looked down at his phone that had just lit up. He smiled tenderly and picked up the phone displaying the only name that was saved – Gu Nian.
His brown eyes sparkled, and his voice was low and gentle.
“The fish has bitten.”
