Kyle was distracted by Selene's desire to kill the chubby merchant.
Her nostrils were flaring while she was trembling in rage.
Meanwhile, Mell had already gotten up from her seat as she started to complain, without holding back.
"How is it possible for someone in an ordinary town to have the golden seal of chivalry?? Don't tell me that is a coincidence?!
And why should they want Selene's help? The Lohars loathe and mock her just because of her fur color. They're a disgusting race for doing such a thing!
It doesn't make any sense, Gaby!"
Selene had become more important to Mell who cared for her just like a mother.
Her fiercely protective nature was clearly visible based on her words.
Her husband, Gard, had tried to calm her down but was barely successful.
He only smiled helplessly at Kyle as Mell continued to complain about the Guild's stupidity.
Meanwhile, Gaby could only sigh deeply seeing Mell's reaction.
Her outburst made her recall the painful memories of Lars' death.
Shrugging her shoulders, Gaby remarked,
"It's not like we are any better...we enslave Lohars according to our will, don't we?"
Her words were nothing but the bitter truth.
Hearing Gaby made Mell to quiet down and the room fell silent for a while.
This allowed Kyle to think about everything without being distracted.
Given the small battle of words that had just ensued, Selene momentarily forgot all about the severely injured Lohar.
All of her attention was on the fact that the chubby merchant was somehow linked to this fiasco.
Kyle had never seen her passionately hate someone so much. But, there was always a first time for everything.
Selene's hate overshadowed the fact that the severely injured Lohar had requested her help.
She simply focused on the chubby merchant!
However, to Kyle, the golden seal of chivalry was still a mystery because it looked as if Gard and Mell knew it quite well.
And according to their expression, and Mell's reaction, it was a bad sign for both him and Selene.
Other than that, Kyle had expected to encounter the chubby merchant in Vila town.
But even after several weeks had passed, he was yet to cross paths with him.
Like Selene, he wasn't too pleased to hear about the merchant again.
He clenched his fists and his eyes turned cold upon recalling the injuries and pain while fleeing Alsa village.
Kyle had barely escaped death and countless homes had been demolished which was the merchant's doing.
'So that's how your scheming continues? After hunting Nasgas, you are now suddenly working together with them again?'
At that moment, the memories of the bullhorn hyena's attack flashed past his eyes.
He could vividly recall the arrival of the Nasgas with the bloody hue enveloping them.
It was quickly followed by the merchant's loud voice with three words that rang through his mind.
"...Kidran blood orbs?.."
All the pieces of the puzzle in Kyle's mind were slowly starting to fall in place.
He wasn't even aware that he had said it out loud.
Upon hearing him, Gaby couldn't help but look at him weirdly.
After pondering about it for a moment, she seemed to make a decision.
Clearing her throat, she revealed one of the Guilds' secrets she had learned a while ago.
"The Thunderclaw kingdom has long since started its search for more Lohar slaves, secretly obviously. Theirr appearance, high combat capabilities, and instinctive behavior in the face of dangers make them an ideal option for slavery.
This is the reason that the Lohars are versatile and highly in demand.
Due to multiple reasons the Guild suspects the Thunderclaw kingdom to have broken the peace treaty with the Lahin kingdom.
This doesn't mean that they openly declared war.
But it looks like Knar Laz was ordered to join his forces with a few rogue Nasga tribes to throw the blame on Nasgas!
Interestingly, the Guild has gotten wind of the fact that the Thunderclaw kingdom is up to something devious.
It has lots of Kidran blood orbs that can be used to nurture beasts.
From what our sources have found out, Knar Laz is also the culprit behind this.
He is believed to 'strengthen' the Nasgas by giving them certain cultivation manuals.
This aids them in creating the kidran blood orbs though it gradually weakens them.
To put it simply, the Guild wants to stop this mess.
It wishes to quietly end this chaos before it blows out of proportion and the neighboring kingdoms find out.
We are especially concerned with keeping this news away from both the Razgra and Lahin kingdom.
If this news were to leak out, two strong kingdoms would turn into archenemies of the Thunderclaw kingdom!
As such, it is even more important for us to follow the call of the golden seal of chivalry…."
Nobody made a sound until Gaby was speaking. But, once she was done, Mell was about to jump up once again, but Gard held her back.
Shaking his head, he pushed her back into her seat, with a grim expression.
If not for the golden seal of chivalry, Gaby would not have revealed so much.
But because she wanted Selene and the others to believe her, Gaby even revealed some of the Guild's well-kept secrets.
Gaby hoped that she would come across as sincere and they would put some faith in her.
Other than that, she felt that the Jars and Kyle should know about everything too.
She had already been living a life of guilt owing to her husband's death..
She didn't want to feel regret, not again!
Despite the revelation, Kyle and Selene still didn't know what the golden seal of chivalry the others had been talking about was. Neither did anybody mention it clearly.
Kyle had just opened his mouth to ask about the same but he saw that the Jars and Gaby had already begun a lengthy discussion.
So, he just looked at Selene, whose eyes were still filled with anger.
In an effort to calm her, he patted the back of her hands lightly.
"Calm down, we will figure out what is going on. Control your emotions, and don't let them control you, okay?"
Smiling at her, Kyle gave her a piece of advice. Selene relaxed visibly on hearing him and stopped clenching her fists. But Kyle's mind was still overflowing with information.
'Everything has really turned into a giant mess….'
He was still unsure what role Selene played in this mission.
As Kyle was trying to think of an answer, Gaby suddenly added as if to answer his unspoken question.
"Selene is important to this mission, as stated by Laila earlier as well. It is quite difficult to explain everything right now. But without the golden seal of chivalry, it will be difficult to complete the mission.
And, this is where Selene comes into play. Being a noble would allow her to make use of the seal. This would in turn allow stronger adventurers, even those belonging to the Aldra race, to help us.
Now that we have the seal and Selene, this changes everything!
I don't know much about the Lohar race, but Laila's remarks about Selene were quite interesting!
If Selene had been born with noble, or even better, royal blood, she would have been admired and worshiped by her entire race!"
Hearing this made both Kyle and Selene look at Gaby in shock.
Her words made them wonder if they had heard her correctly or not.
Even Gard and Mell were astonished because they didn't understand her either.
Seeing identical expressions of confusion on all their faces, Gaby explained further.
"There are three colors of fur that are worshiped by the Lohars in general.
The only criteria is that one has to have royal blood in their veins. These three colors are Gold, Silver, and Black!
I don't know the exact reason for this, but it seems like only royal blood can survive the disease that affects those who are born with golden, silver, or black fur.
Because of this reason, those unfortunate Lohars who are born with either of these fur colors without the blood of nobles are deemed as being cursed.
For such cursed Lohars, it is believed that the chances to survive beyond the age of 18 years are negligible.
Well...and then there is Selene, but that is credited to Kyle's ability…
I cannot vouch for the credibility of this information. But I guess the injured Lohar thought of Selene as a noble of the Lohar race?"
Kyle stared at Gaby with his mouth wide open as if his jaw was hitting the ground.
Meanwhile, Selene's expression was blank.
She didn't say anything, nor did her expressions betray her true feelings.
Selene was still seated beside Kyle.
She was simply staring at Gaby as if she was frozen in place.
Even Kyle couldn't really understand what was going on.
In his past, he had never heard of a black furred Lohar noble.
But that didn't mean no such noble could exist!
His connections to other races were insignificant, and Kyle had only read the news about the stellar system he had lived in during his first life.
As such, he was probably lacking significant information which he might have known otherwise.
Kyle's fingers curled around Selene's arm which made her regain her senses. She looked at him with utter confusion as she mumbled,
"Just what am I?"
Her voice was filled with desperation, frustration, and doubt.
Gaby's words made her second guess everything about herself as if she questioned her entire existence.
Kyle was not sure what to say to her question.
After giving it some thought, he recalled something he had told her before.
"You are you, Selene, and nobody else. Don't worry too much about what you've heard right now. We will overcome all the obstacles together!"
He hoped that his words infused her with some confidence.
Selene forced herself to smile lightly, causing Kyle to feel a little bit bad.
Maintaining his grip on her hand, he averted his attention to Gaby as he said.
"Did you tell the Lohar that Selene neither has the blood of some nobles nor the royalty? Impersonating someone with royal blood is probably not something she should do just because someone says so!"
At this question, Gaby nodded her head before retorting,
"The injured Lohar accepted this fact, but he also said that every Lohar who can cultivate in two paths is directly considered to be a noble. As such, Selene wouldn't impersonate anyone, because she would officially be considered to be a noble, and in turn, eligible to command Lohars.
Using this fact to our benefit would help us hit two birds in one stone.
We can save the Lohar from the fangs of Nasgas, and we would also be able to clear the rumors defaming the Guild and Thunderclaw kingdom.
At the same time, the Guild inside the Thunderclaw kingdom has already received our report too, and they will take care of the matters there!"
Hearing her made Selene tighten her hold over Kyle's hand.
He could completely understand her.
The entire situation felt like utter bullshit to him.
Despite Gaby's earnest plea, the fact that Selene had been promoted to a noble just like that simply seemed illogical to him.
'So just because she was sick, nobody wanted her. And now that she has overcome her disease, everyone is willing to worship her as a prodigious talent and a noble?!'
Nothing made sense to him and the more he thought the more confused he became with what was going on.
Being a noble was no laughing matter, even less for someone, who had been a slave for her entire life.
To him, it made sense that those with talent would be cherished and nurtured.
But what irked Kyle was the fact that the entire Lohar race had treated Selene like a piece of trash as if she was of no use to them.
He was still not sure if the injured Lohar's statement was correct.
But his gut feeling told him that this was the case.
As such, Kyle wondered if the bloodline of the Lohar's royalty had something unique.
He was unsure if it prevented the golden, silver, and black furred descendants from becoming ill.
This was important to know, but despite that, Selene's current situation was way more important to Kyle than anything else.
