Lin Lan frowned, looking at Han Jinyu and several other people. One was the Eldest Sister of the Han family, Eldest Aunt Han, and the other was a young man in his teenage years. The last person who came in was a cadre.
The cadre combed his shiny hair, wore a pair of black round-frame glasses and donned a grey-blue four-pocket Chinese tunic suit. Also, he wore a pair of black pigskin shoes that were polished to a degree even though the paint on it was slightly faded.
Not wearing a coat, the tip of his nose and cheeks were red from the cold. He looked as if he cared more about his style than keeping warm.
The cadre was carrying presents— a bottle of wine, a net bag of apples, two packs of snacks and a pack of sugar. As soon as he saw Lin Lan, he immediately stepped forward and said excitedly, “Hi, sister-in-law!”
Lin Lan hurriedly stopped him, “Who are you? Don’t address me like that.”
The cadre laughed, “It’s me, Sun Yaowu, I met you in the County Town that day. Director Han took you along, but I guess you didn’t see me since you were sitting at the back.”
It was only then that Lin Lan recognized that it was him. To be fair, he was dressed as if he was getting married today. Plus, she wasn’t even sure if the glasses he was wearing right now was due to his short-sightedness or if it was because he found it fashionable. Either way, she actually didn’t recognise him upon first glance.
Han Jinyu rolled his eyes at him, “Officer Sun.”
Sun Yaowu immediately understood as he smiled and handed the gift to Lin Lan.
Lin Lan didn’t accept it, “Our family never accepts gifts for Director Han, so please don’t put me in a tough position.”
In the past, some people came to give Han Qingsong gifts, conveying that they wanted some help in some way. Han Qingsong told them directly that if anyone were to cause him to make a mistake (bribery), he would never let that person go. After all, he wanted to and planned to raise his family with his salary.
Although the gift givers were not kicked out, it also made them unable to speak, so no one dared to come to give offerings to Director Han anymore.
Sun Yaowu, however, seemed to be well versed in the art of euphemism and said with a smile, “I understand, I understand. This is not a gift for Director Han— it is for you, sister-in-law. Qingshan and I are merely… Haha, sister-in-law. This is the first time I’m visiting you, so this is just a small token of my sincerity.”
Lin Lan raised her eyebrows. She didn’t think they came here out of courtesy. Seeing Sun Yaowu’s posture and Han Jinyu’s expression, she didn’t believe it for one second.
Besides, Han Jinyu and Sun Yaowu weren’t an official item yet, so why did they come to the door together with gifts for her? There was no way it was this simple.
“You can decide your own affairs for yourself, we don’t care,” Lin Lan invited them to sit at the square table, but did not invite them to the kang.
With so many people, who knew how much bacteria they would bring? The kang was a private space and unless they were close relatives and friends, they would not be allowed to go there.
Lin Lan didn’t regard them as people close to her in her heart, so naturally, she wouldn’t invite them to the kang.
Seeing her being so distant and polite, both Eldest Aunt Han and Han Jinyu’s faces turned ugly.
Eldest Aunt Han was the first to attack, “I’ll say, sister-in-law, we are not outsiders, so what are you doing?”
