Chapter 16 Destiny

Nyx informed Ethan about the rumors surrounding dragons, saying, [There are a lot of stories floating around about what the dragons did in the past, but there is no written evidence to back it up.

Some believe that dragons once ruled the world, but then something caused them to start fighting among themselves. Some claim that the last remaining dragons protected the west during the first world war, while others think that the Valors are blessed by dragons.

These are all just unverified assumptions, but there is one solid proof of their existence.]

Ethan guessed, "Their corpses?"

Nyx confirmed, [Yes, the dragon remains are kept under the close observation and research of the world council.]

At that moment, Ethan's divine sense intensified. He knew he was getting closer. With eager anticipation, he turned right into a smaller alley and froze when he saw what was in front of him. It was a sleeping brown female dog.

[Destiny event started.]

'This is just a dog...but maybe there's something special about her,' Ethan thought.

As he approached, the female dog woke up and looked at him with curious eyes.

"She's cute," he said.

[Indeed.] Nyx agreed.

Ethan was a little uncertain, "She won't bite, right?"

The female dog got up and barked, startling him a little but then he calmed down when he saw her tail wagging.

He bent down to pet the dog gently and asked, "Would you like something to eat?"

The dog barked in response and Ethan smiled.

"Wow, you are smart, Wait, let me get you something," he said.

Ethan went to get some buns and offered them to the dog. As she ate, he stroked her head affectionately.

'So what now?' Ethan asked Nyx.

[I suggest you wait for some more time.]

'Fair.'

Just then on the street opposite to him, he saw a group of thugs and with them he saw someone familiar.

Ethan blinked, "Is this it?"

Ethan smiled at the female dog. "Alright, guess we will part now."

She stopped eating and looked up at him, giving him another bark. Man, he really liked her. Ethan decided to bring her back home after checking out that group. Besides Mia, Dylan and Scarlett would also like such a smart dog.

Ethan had only taken a glimpse of the long pink hair of a woman in the group, he wasn't really sure if it was that girl. He quickly walked and peeked.

A familiar sexy girl was surrounded by a group of thugs of eight. She had fear filled eyes, as she inched closer to the wall.

The leader of a group, a tall thin man snarled impatiently, causing Rose's heart to race with fear. She stammered, pleading for more time to fulfill their demands, but her words were met with cruel laughter from the thugs.

The leader moved in closer, his cold fingers digging into her cheeks as he held her face captive, his eyes dark with sinister intent. With a sadistic smile, he ran his other hand over her chest, evoking a cry of pain from her lips.

The thugs around him snickered, their lecherous gazes devouring her body. The leader tore down her shirt, exposing her bra, and it was clear what was about to happen. Ethan stood by, witnessing the horrors unfold, before finally turning and walking away, abandoning Rose to her fate.

Ignoring the situation, Ethan noticed that the female dog had already left.

He heard Nyx mumble unhappily, [This feels bad.]

Chuckling, he replied, "You don't even feel emotions. What are you even talking about?"

Nyx seemed to be displeased with his reaction, asking [How are you still so calm?]

Ethan smiled, "Isn't our purpose to help Ethan Chase with his wishes? I am doing that."

[… This was just unexpected. You seemed to be a nice person.] Nyx sighed.

Ethan stopped walking and his smile became sincere. "Nyx, you passed the test."

[Huh?] Nyx was taken aback and confused.

Ethan turned around and started walking back. He could sense the struggle on the other side.

He said, "I just wanted to see how low you guys can fall for some retarded task or some shitty revenge. You passed the test, but as expected, the Remnant Will didn't. That's understandable though. Remnant Will is just an obsession… an accumulation of both negatives and positives of a person."

Nyx was speechless. She asked, [Now what?]

Taking a deep breath, Ethan said, "I once said that I don't want to feel regret. I don't care if I do something But there is a line that I will never cross. Knowing that a woman may get raped and doing nothing about it is something that I will never do. Not even in my dreams." His lips curled up into a smile as he declared, "Let's beat these shits up and help Rose. Fuck this Remnant Will."

[Yes,] Nyx agreed, [My primary purpose is Ethan Chase's development and this type of thing leads to regression. So fuck remnant will.]

Ethan smiled as he reached the corner. He quickly muted his mobile and then used some special points to temporarily enhance the divine sense ability. He used it to see if there were any hidden cameras in the surroundings and the weapons these idiots had. And then he used the ability: Chronostasis.

This world had people with powers–Mystics–as such it also had many rules and regulations regarding these people. Ethan didn't want to be discovered… at least not so soon. He first had to get stronger to at least defend himself.
