Chapter 7: Chapter 5 – 2nd Upgrade
Yan Fei ignored the two men’s back-and-forth and turned to leave, disregarding the arrogant Second Xie. The times were different now; it was an era of legal society, where those suspected of being part of the mafia were being severely cracked down on by the state, scurrying about and not daring to cause trouble as blatantly as before. If they dared to act out, they would be met with the powerful authoritarian force of the state machine. Besides, Yan Fei had just acquired his Drone Avatar and, along with his significantly increased strength, was not at all afraid of the other’s verbal threats.
Second Xie, with his imposing build, took a quick step and blocked Yan Fei’s path, swinging his shoulder to hit Yan Fei’s chest. Yan Fei sidestepped and rammed his shoulder into the bulky man as well. A loud “bang” resounded when their shoulders collided fiercely. Yan Fei staggered slightly, while Second Xie was knocked unsteady, almost falling over.
With that collision, Yan Fei’s strength clearly had the upper hand. He exercised daily and had full control over the strength he had gained. With his first move, he achieved a victory, which greatly boosted his confidence.
Second Xie was taken aback, not expecting Yan Fei to look so slim yet possess such immense strength. Hesitating, he did not try to stop Yan Fei again. Meanwhile, Zhang Baocheng looked on with a face full of shock and confusion, evidently unsure what to think.
When Yan Fei reached the fourth floor, he saw that Lü Yangyang and Su Yan’s door was slightly ajar. Lü Yangyang poked his head out from the room and whispered, “Boss, are you okay? Do you need us to call the police?”
Yan Fei shook his head, “I’m fine, very fine!”
Lü Yangyang said, “These people have been here since just past eight o’clock, blocking the way downstairs, each one looking fierce and vicious, obviously here to cause trouble. Boss, please be careful!”
Yan Fei replied with a smile, “Thank you for your concern, but I’ve got it handled. Don’t worry about me!”
Just then, the sound of a car engine starting came from downstairs. Yan Fei looked down to see Zhang Baocheng and Second Xie getting into a car, driving away from the courtyard, just like that, they left.
Back in his room, Yan Fei put down the cardboard box he was carrying, which contained his Drone Avatar, and began to ponder the current situation. The Demolition Feast was about to begin, and all kinds of shady characters were active. In this area, his family’s building had the largest construction area, preliminarily valued at over a hundred million. Moreover, since he was the only one in his family and had no close friends or relatives, he was essentially isolated and vulnerable. Those people must have investigated his situation, knowing he had no one to rely on, which is why they targeted him.
A cold smile crept into Yan Fei’s heart. He was no pushover, and those people might take a serious tumble if they weren’t careful. At that moment, he realized profoundly that strength was always the most important safeguard. Once he had sufficient strength, he would no longer fear their threats and could protect his family’s building.
Yan Fei opened the box and took out his Drone Avatar. As he switched his perspective to the Virtual Operation Screen, he discovered that the drone had reached 100 Merit Points, the upgrade point, and a flashing red upgrade button appeared on the screen. He clicked the upgrade button with his consciousness and saw the Virtual Screen flash before shutting down abruptly, his consciousness forcibly ejected.
As Yan Fei’s consciousness returned to his body, he saw an eerie fluctuation suddenly appear on the Drone Body, spreading throughout his living room. Following that, some of the appliances began to disassemble. Yan Fei was startled and suddenly remembered an important issue; he wanted to stop the drone’s upgrade, but unfortunately, he was unable to control the drone at that moment, and the upgrade process was irreversible.
While Yan Fei was regretting, the disassembled components of the living room appliances broke down into tiny particles, which gathered into an ion stream and merged into the Drone Body. As these ion streams continuously fused, changes began to appear in the drone’s body.
Five minutes later, the Drone Body finally finished its transformation and upgrade. However, because some parts had been disassembled, the household appliances now looked pitted and worn, beyond use.
Yan Fei felt deeply regretful. He had forgotten that a Drone Upgrade required a large amount of Raw Materials. Since he hadn’t provided these Materials, the drone had extracted them from nearby sources, which were, unfortunately, his home appliances. This oversight resulted in the complete scrapping of his household appliances. The purchase of these appliances had cost him at least one hundred thousand yuan, and now due to a simple mistake, that money had turned into scrap metal, filling him with regret. The only consolation for Yan Fei was that the Drone Upgrade was finally complete.
The upgraded drone was still black in color and maintained the simple, civilian quadrotor shape similar to before the Upgrade, but its size had increased substantially. The drone once weighed only 2 kilograms, but now it had reached 20 kilograms.
Bending over to inspect it, Yan Fei discovered changes on the Virtual Operation Screen as well.
Drone Avatar (Level 2)
Energy — 300
Weapon — 500 (Steel ball)
Merit — 0/1000
Universal Space — 10 Cubic meters
Flight Speed — 144 kilometers/hour
Flight Altitude — 200 meters
Control Distance — 10 kilometers
Storage Card — 100 TB
The upgraded Virtual Operation Screen now displayed the Level of the Drone Avatar for the first time; the previous screen had no such display, making it very clear to Yan Fei which stage his Drone Avatar was in.
