Chapter 29: Buying a House
Finn Lewis got out of the taxi and walked straight into the sales office of the residential community. It wasn’t crowded; after all, it was not a newly opened real estate project. Only two sales ladies were present, and one of them greeted Finn as he entered.
“How may I assist you, sir?” The beautiful young woman asked with a friendly smile.
“Well, I’m interested in viewing some houses; I assume there are still some available?”
“Yes, there are still some houses left, but it depends on how many square meters you need. There are only 11 units available, all of them are large-sized, elegantly furnished, split-level, and options are limited as houses of other layouts have already been sold out. Would you like to take a look?” She hesitated before giving Finn a brief introduction, speaking in a tactful manner, obviously considering Finn’s feelings.
Her eloquence impressed Finn, and he developed a liking for her. He smiled and asked, “Can you show me around? Are all 11 units the same type?”
“No, each of the 11 units has a different layout. If you would like, we could start by looking at some floor plans?” She promptly shook her head and answered.
Varied layouts? Finn found this surprising; isn’t it true that most property layouts are typically the same due to the architectural structure?
“Could you please show me the houses instead? I won’t bother with the floor plans.” Finn voiced his preference after thinking for a moment.
“Sure, please wait for a moment. Are you interested in seeing all of them?” She hesitated, then nodded her approval. Not many people came to visit the properties.
As such, they didn’t have much to do, and were not permitted to do other tasks whilst in the sales office. Although it may be boring, accompanying Finn on the tour was a welcome engagement. Despite having visited the houses multiple times, the grandeur of the properties never ceased to amaze.
The saleslady quickly fetched the keys, then led Finn through the sales office’s back door into the residential complex. “Let me introduce myself properly. My name is Finn Lewis.” While walking into the complex, Finn jovially starts the introduction.
“I’m Luna Green.” She extended her hand, shaking hands with Finn while introducing herself, “I’m quite familiar with this complex as I have been here before. But can you tell me why the prices of these 11 split-level units vary?
“Well, many people ask this. It’s quite simple. When the property was designed, 22 exclusive penthouses were planned. There are 11 high-rise buildings in this community, each having 2 penthouses. When the building was completed up to the 26th floor, it was capped, and then 22 unique split-level penthouses were built.” Luna smilingly explained to Finn.
“Oh, basically, it’s like building villas on top of the building, right?” Finn now understood why the layouts varied.
“Yes, and all layouts were designed by renowned designers. Unfortunately, the generally unsatisfactory market response was due to the developer’s inability to face market realities and the excessive prices considering the location and environment. Therefore, some houses still remain unsold.” Luna nodded acknowledgingly.
“You’re telling me all these insider details of the industry, aren’t you afraid I’ll take advantage and drive the prices down?” Finn found this situation amusing; typical saleswomen generally avoided discussing such issues with potential customers.
“Haha, Mr. Lewis, you’re going to be disappointed. The one responsible for designing these split-level penthouses is the boss’s daughter, and she is notoriously headstrong. She would rather keep these units unsold than lower the prices. So even if I tell you this, there’s no chance you could cut the price.” Luna chuckled as she explained.
Finn immediately shrugged his shoulders, “Alright, seems like your boss’s daughter is quite wilful. But I guess this isn’t good news for you guys? After all, isn’t your commission based on successful sales?”
Luna chuckled, then she smiled and replied: “Well, yes and no. Those of us stationed here permanently are given an additional monthly 5000 yuan allowance from the boss’s daughter personally. Even though we could earn a substantial commission if we sold these houses somewhere else, the current real estate market is in recession. Having the allowance to fall back on isn’t bad, even if it takes several months to sell a house here. Plus, the remaining 11 units are stunning, and we are confident they will sell eventually. As for us two colleagues, we have agreed that whoever sells one of the houses will handle all subsequent customers. After all, in the end, the money will all be ours, right?”
“Haha, you are satisfied with what you get. So, it looks like it’s your turn to sell this house?” Finn laughed. He found Luna’s personality to be rather intriguing.
“Yes, that’s why we rely on people like you, our generous clients, to make a little money.” Luna laughed.
“I’m not some big boss; I’m just a student at F University.” Finn raised his hands in jest. “I’m just here to take a look today. I’ve been interested in these houses for a long time, and today I finally mustered up the courage to come for a visit.” Finn said cheerfully.
“Oh, I see. Then let me show you the most beautiful unit we have. Its neighbouring unit was sold, which I consider the most impressive unit. Since you’re here to appreciate the grandeur, let me take you on a fascinating tour. I hold the boss’s daughter in high regard; the houses she designed are simply splendid. I always feel that when I get married, I will strive to buy a house designed by our boss’s daughter.” Luna stated while laughing, her stride jubilant with newfound excitement.
Finn was surprised; he thought Luna would be upset. But instead, it seemed that she was reverting back to her usual up-beat self, dropping her professional facade. Finn noted that her demeanor had changed; her smile wasn’t that of a salesperson anymore, and her walking style had altered, more akin to having a friendly conversation with a close friend.
All along the way, she kept telling Finn about the magnificence of the boss’s daughter’s creations Finn kept inhis end of the hapter_ eager in thig
utterly beautiful house Luna was gushing about.
“The two top floor penthouses are each equipped with a private elevator, accessible only to the residents living in these two houses.” Once they were inside the building, Luna led Finn to the innermost elevator, continuing her introduction.
Despite being exclusive to only two residences, this elevator was even larger than the ones accessible to regular users, capable of accommodating up to 18 people. This was most likely considered for ease of transporting furniture; after all, people able to afford such homes would surely have elaborate and elegant furniture..
