Chapter 6: You’re the One

I am truly back here again… I’ll cherish this life well…

At present, nothing mattered but her.

Mo Lixin… I will cherish you in this life… I’m sorry…

Only her.

No one else.

But he’ll have to work, work harder to gain her trust, her love, and her affection.

Back then, sitting on the soft sofa, the silhouette was dim, just bright enough to see my surroundings, I came to an epiphany. I realize then, my love, that though I ran away from you, loathed you, and closed my heart from you, you never left. You stood there, waiting… quietly. You’ve suffered. I let you suffered. In this lifetime, my dear wife, I won’t allow it. In the end, because of me, your heart drowned in a sea of utter despair.

Duan Anran left, albeit unwillingly for she did not believe what she’d just bore witness to.

She immediately went to see a specialist in neurology. However, the neurologist was unable to provide an exact reason for Ji Nanfeng’s sudden amnesia, only providing a probable cause that it was due to the prior accident, stating that his memories were fragmented and had lost at least a year’s worth of memory.

Duan Anran staggered back.

In the hospice room, there was only Ji Nanfeng and Mo Lixin.

“You… are you alright?” In truth, what Mo Lixin truly wished to ask, against her better judgment, was question whether Ji Nanfeng truly did not remember Duan Anran.

“Am I not all right? What’s wrong?” Ji Nanfeng played the part of an amnesiac well.

“No… it’s nothing.” Mo Lixin paused. After a short brief second, she continued. “Right, do you know what year and month it is?”

“Xin’er,1 how do I know?” Ji Nanfeng coughed.

I know.

“Did not the doctor say I have amnesia? So… then I guess I’ve been here for a year? Right, a year has passed.” Ji Nanfeng answered perfunctorily, eyebrows raised in delight as he looked at her silly.

Mo Lixin shut her mouth and said nothing further.

Ji Nanfeng smiled softly. When she’s like this, he knew she’d often draw back into her own world thinking of things and many matters.

It was cute.

“Come on,” he held her hand, “Let’s go home.”

“Ah~” Mo Lixin immediately returned from her subconscious. “Right now?”

It’s not right, she thought.

Thinking over this carefully, it doesn’t feel right, she thought.

Ji Nanfeng nodded. “Let’s go home.”

Cold sweat formed on his temples. That’s right. He’s lost his memory. To suddenly act as if a married couple and hinting to go ‘home’, it looked and felt suspicious indeed.

“Do you remember our marriage?” Mo Lixin asked. She looked at him innocently, eagerly awaiting his answer.

Her two hands clutched on the edge of the bed while her lovely eyes were filled with doubts.

“Of course. I remember marrying you a year ago. Now a year has passed. We’ve been married to each other for a year. You married me, right? I remember marrying you.”

Hearing Ji Nanfeng’s reply, her heart tightened.

That’s right. A year ago, he said he wanted to marry her, but later on… after her mother’s mistake, his heart closed and no longer opened up to her…

Ji Nanfeng saw once more that she immersed herself once again in her own world. He did not need to pick at her brain to find out her thoughts for he already knew. Her thoughts were filled with his image… but… it was not the sweet kind.

Angered at himself, he immediately switched the topic. “I cannot remember what happened over the past couple months. But later on, you can tell me. Anyways, let’s go back home.”

“……” Mo Lixin did not know what to feel so she did not speak.

While Ji Nanfeng changed into a new set of clothing, Mo Lixin drew back to her safety net, her own world.

Looking at her countenance, Ji Nanfeng’s chest panged. He wanted to wrap his arms around her and tell her how much he loved her, but he couldn’t… she’ll only be frightened.

He’ll have to take care of this fragile relationship with great care and move forwards step by step.

“Let’s go.” Ji Nanfeng slung the bag stuffed with his old clothing and stretched out his hand to hold hers.

Mo Lixin lowered her gaze and looked down. She was mixed with many emotions, but regardless, she grabbed his hand and held it tight.

… … …

The chauffeur looked back at the rearview mirror, watching the two time to time.

Mo Lixin’s hand oozed a touch of sweat. She was nervous. Ji Nanfeng hadn’t let her hand go as of yet.

The new chauffeur, Xiao Fang, raised his left brow. His curiosity peaked. He recalled Ji Nanfeng would always be right at Duan Anran’s side. They looked affectionate too, so he assumed they were a couple. But how can his partner change place only after a few days of being admitted in the hospital? Did not Mo Lixin set the building on fire, which in return caused him to be injured? How come he’s affectionate towards her rather than placing the blame?

Odd.

Xiao Fang had many wild guesses running through his head, but he dared not say anything.

“Ji Nanfeng… you really don’t remember…” Mo Lixin could not believe what she saw.

The moment he awoke from his sleep, his tone towards her was soft and gentle. He’d even gone as far as to kick Duan Anran out of the room in front of her. Also… he held her hand… and he didn’t hate it?

She felt like she was dreaming…
