Chapter 190 - Troublesome

Caroline was already sleeping soundly in the guest room of Allison's house.

Meanwhile...

At Susan's house.

Mike was having a hard time sleeping that night. It's the first night of his wife's disappearance, he can't sleep, his mind is busy thinking where his wife is sleeping right now?

Whose house she was staying currently?

Was she sleeping with another guy? He winced with the idea. He can't help but think of that possibility sometimes...even though he doesn't want to entertain that kind of thought much because it will only make him mad with jealousy.

But right now that Caroline wasn't giving him any specific reason for her disappearance then all scenarios are possible.

How many days, weeks, or months he had to endure all this? When is Caroline able to sort out her problems and come back to him?

When she returns... will they stay the same or there are changes?

Worst, when his wife returns to her side she will already become a different person.

Shiit!

This is crazy as hell!

It's only a few hours of her disappearance and yet his mind was already tortured endlessly. He can't stop thinking about her.

His mind was screaming for her return.

So many questions were traversing in his head and they're enough to make him stay awake all night long.

He tried listening to music to lure him to sleep but they aren't helping him at all.

Frustrated, he rose from the bed and entered the bathroom to take a long shower, hoping it will help him relax his troubled mind.

After thirty minutes of showering, he exited the bathroom and went back to the bed wearing only his boxers shorts.

He jumped into the bed imagining his wife giggling beneath him.

Damn, he missed her girly giggle and her sweet smiles.

His heart was aching and yearning for her sweet embrace.

Dammit...how can he go on with his life like this, alone and abandoned!

How?

He groaned in despair as tears shimmered in his eyes ready to fall again.

Mike clenched his fingers in anger and frustration. Of all people, why it has to happen to him? Why it had to be him?

Back in Allison's house.

While she was still wide awake sipping the glass filled with red wine in her mini bar, she was thinking of calling somebody...

She placed a call for her brother Alex wanting to tell him of the good news.

Her brother answered her call promptly.

"Hello...Ali? Why are you calling me at this hour?"

"I just want to share with you the good news!" Allison said happily.

"What is it? What's the good news?"

"I already have Caroline here inside my house, she was sleeping in the guestroom. Tomorrow, I will bring her to your place so that she can accompany our brother Greg until his remaining days here on earth!" Allison said excitedly.

"Huh? Are you kidding me? I don't believe you!" said Alex.

"I'm not lying. I'm not making up things here. Caroline is indeed sleeping in my house in the guest room right now!" Allison persisted.

"Why would I believe you? Why a married woman would sleep in your house and not in her husband's house?" Alex asked in disbelief.

"Why indeed? That's a million-dollar question my dear brother but I'm not gonna argue with you any longer. If you want, you can come over here to my house and you can see with your eyes that Caroline is indeed sleeping in the guest room. To see is to believe, right?" she challenged him.

Allison was tapping on her knees, smiling, while waiting for her brother's response.

Meanwhile...

Alex fell silent at the other end, contemplating on what to do.

He was doubting if his sister's claim is true, but he knows her too well when it comes to issues like this...she won't make up things unless it's true. At this time of night, Allison won't pull such a lame joke like this. If his sister issued a challenge, that means she has something on her sleeve, so, he has to go outside and find out the truth.

There's only one way to find out if Allison was telling the truth!

He will go to her place and see with his own two eyes if Caroline was indeed staying at her sister's house. It's just a few minutes' rides, it won't take long for him to arrive at her place.

He was still hesitating though, suspecting that all these were just Allison's child's play, maybe his sister was bored out of her mind and decided to make fun of him.

But then... the thoughts of seeing Caroline again fueled his curiosity, it makes him want to fly and be there in his sister's house in an instant!

He quickly gets up from the bed, went to the closet and opened it, he grabbed some clothes and donned his pants and white t-shirt on his body, then he picked up his car keys and exited the bedroom with a big stride.

He gets out of the house and entered his car parked in the garage. He felt an adrenaline rush surging through his body just thinking of seeing Caroline again.

A few minutes later, he was already exiting the gate and driving smoothly towards Allison's house.

The drive towards his sister's house was quick because there's no heavy traffic on the highway, he glanced at his wristwatch, it's already 10:00 in the evening.

Twenty minutes later, he finally arrived at Ali's house.

His sister was already waiting for him at the door, smirking.

They went inside the house.

Allison sauntered towards the stairs and began the climb followed by the hesitant Alex.

They reached the top of the stairs and Allison ambled towards the guest room. She stopped in front of the door and knocked softly.

"Caroline...are you still awake? Can you get out for a minute...there's someone who wanted to say hello to you," she said.

Allison already knocked seven times but no one is opening the door.

"She's probably sleeping already...hmmm..." she pondered for a moment on what she's going to do next.

Then she produced a key from the pocket of her shorts. "This will allow us to get inside," she said and inserted the key to the doorknob.

Allison pushes the door slowly...

Then they entered the room, careful not to make any noise.

There she is...!

Alex was speechless. His sister was indeed telling a truth.

Just to make sure that the woman sleeping on the bed was indeed Caroline, he went closer to the bed and took a peek at the sleeping face of the woman...

Holy Christ! It's indeed her!

"It's indeed, Caroline!" he said aloud. "But why she's here at your place?" he began firing questions to his sister.

Allison put her finger on her mouth trying to silence her brother. "Keep quiet!" she whispers. "Lower your voice, don't wake her up!" then she noticed the bottle of medicine in the bedside table. She picked it up and inspected what the bottle is meant for, she discovered that it's a sleeping pill.

"Hmm, she's using pills to sleep," she added.

"Let's get out of here!" Alex's grabbed his sister's arms and dragged her outside the guestroom and closed the door gently, careful not to make any noise.

They finally exited the bedroom.

"Why are you in a hurry to get out of the room? I thought you still want to stare longer at the face of your lady crush?" Allison's teases him.

Alex ran his fingers through his hair. "Sis, why Caroline is here in your house sleeping in the guest room? Did she and her husband quarreled?"

Allison shook her head. "I dunno...maybe. But as far as I know, she agreed to stay in your house for several months to be with Greg."

Alex's eyes widened in total surprise and confusion.

"Huh? But why? She's already a married woman. Does her husband already know about her coming her to be with her 'ex? No husband in his right mind would allow his wife to spend time with her 'ex!" he argued.

Allison shrugged. "I don't care. If Caroline wants to be with Greg, it's no longer my problem. She wants to be here, it's her own decision. If you are still not satisfied, you can talk to her tomorrow after we arrived at your house. Just wait for us there! You may go home now, dear brother, because I'm feeling sleepy. I want to go to sleep," she said.

Alex looked upstairs...he can't talk to Caroline right now because she was sleeping. He might as well wait for her tomorrow at his house so that he can ask her questions that he's been dying to ask.

"Okay fine, I'm going home now," he said and walked towards the door shaking his head.

Alex slid in the driver seat, revived the engine and steered his car out of the gate.

Allison watched as her brother's car was already out of the gate of her mansion.

Time to go back to her bedroom upstairs and retire for the night. She will brief Caroline tomorrow on how to dodge her brother's question.

Her lips curled in dismay, her brother can be so troublesome sometimes!
