The following day.
Before breakfast, Allison entered Caroline's room.
"So...what are you talking about with my brother yesterday?"
Caroline looked at the window avoiding the woman's gaze. "He asked me why I'm back. Why I'm not with my husband? He was just curious, so I just repeated to him what you initially told me so that our alibi will be the same," she answered.
"Good! My brother is always suspicious, we can't blame him. But as long you stood your ground and say the same thing, he can't do anything," Allison said. "Owen and I will go back to the city after lunch. You and Greg will remain here. I'll be calling the caretaker every day. Behave yourself, and take care of my brother..." she said.
"How long Greg will remain here?" asked Caroline.
"Two weeks the most...or if he got bored here...he can always return to Alex's house anytime. The length of your stay here depends on Greg's mood," replied Allison.
Caroline nods her head to everything Allison said.
"I'll be checking on you every day. Don't give me a headache anymore, okay?" Allison warned her.
Caroline nodded her head again. "I won't..."
"Breakfast is ready, come with me downstairs," Allison ordered.
"Okay, I'll be there in a minute..." Caroline replied.
Allison exited the room and went downstairs to the dining room.
Caroline was happy to hear that Allison will be returning to her mansion. She can finally buy a new cellphone and contact her twin sister Catherine!
She exited the bedroom, went downstairs, and joined the rest in the dining room.
After breakfast, the group went to the beach and they played volleyball. It's Allison, Greg, and Owen versus Alex and Rudy.
Caroline did not join the game fearing that if she moves a lot, it might affect the baby's health. She just sat on the loungers chair, contented watching the game on the sideline.
Soon enough, the beach was filled with vibrant laughter from the players.
The caretaker arrives at the beach bringing fresh buko juice.
The players took a short break to enjoy the refreshment.
Caroline opted to help the caretaker prepare dishes for lunch while the rest were enjoying their game on the beachfront.
Caroline and the caretaker prepared five dishes for lunch consisted of Grilled fish, Ceviche, Seafood Chopsuey, Shrimp in Sour Soup and Chili Crab.
By 12:30, the dishes were already cooked and being served hot into the nipa hut near the seaside.
Once again, they enjoyed another seafood feast.
One hour and thirty minutes later, everyone's stomach was filled with the hearty dishes prepared by the caretaker and Caroline.
They resumed their fun activities at the seaside while Caroline and the caretaker take care of the dirty dishes in the kitchen.
After helping the caretaker in cleaning the dirty dishes, Caroline went upstairs to rest in the bed.
She falls asleep for two hours and woke up to see the group swimming in the ocean again, this time Greg was no longer painting, he joined his sibling splashing merrily in the water.
It was already 4:30 when they stopped swimming.
By 5:30 in the afternoon, Allison and Owen were already preparing their journey.
Alex decided to stay for another night on the beach and will take his leave early morning, the next day.
Allison and Owen get inside the car.
Caroline watched as the vehicle was moving slowly towards the path leading to the main highway.
Allison is gone and Caroline feels so much better.
By 6:00 in the evening, tired of eating seafood dishes Alex instructed Rudy to buy Chicken Inasal, in the nearest chicken store. Chicken Inasal is a chicken dish marinated in the mixture of coconut vinegar, pepper, lemon and grilled in hot coals. He told the caretaker to just cook rice.
Rudy was gone for twenty minutes and returned with three pieces of yummy delicious smelling Chicken Inasal.
The caretaker and Caroline set the table for dinner.
A few minutes later, they all gathered in the table to eat dinner together.
Thirty minutes later.
They were done eating. The men went to the living room while the women took care of the dirty dishes and cleaning the dining table and the kitchen area.
After done cleaning, Caroline retired to her room and stood near the window looking at the ocean in front of her. She saw Alex and Greg walking towards the beachfront, the brothers sat beside each other on the lounger chair.
Caroline sighed deeply. What are they talking about?
Maybe Alex is now trying to convince his brother to let her go?
She was hopeful, but she didn't raise her hopes high fearing she will only get disappointed in the end.
She left the window and lay down on the bed. She caresses her tummy with her hand and sings a lullaby to her unborn child. "Sleep my darling baby...mother is not far away."
Caroline closes her eyes waiting for sleep to claim her senses.
Meanwhile...at the beach.
Alex looked at his brother. "Bro, there is something you need to know about Caroline..."
Greg brows knitted together. "What is it that I didn't know about her yet?"
Alex locked eyes with his brother.
"She did not break up with her boyfriend, that boyfriend of hers is her husband, they got married before she comes here to be with you. The father of Caroline's unborn baby is her husband. She abandoned her husband just to be with you!" Alex set the record straight.
Greg was flabbergasted. "W-whaaat?"
"Yes, that's the truth. Caroline and Allison lied to you. They were conniving to give you false hope. I don't understand why the women did it. I have a theory though..." Alex continues his revelation.
"What is your suspicion, brother?" asked Greg curiously.
Alex released a deep sigh. "I think...Allison is blackmailing Caroline to stay by your side. I tried asking the women what is the reason why Caroline stays with you even if she is already a married woman and she loves her husband dearly. They avoided my questions and want me to accept everything as normal. Caroline has no reason to stay with you considering that her relationship with you is already over a long time ago."
"What kind of blackmail?" Greg asked eagerly. He knows that his sister has been making plans to keep Caroline by his side. He didn't ask her sister about the details of how she successfully managed to keep Caroline by his side all the time. He just feels blessed that the woman he loves is always by her side and that's enough for her, he doesn't want to know the truth about how his sister did everything successfully.
What matters most to him is that he can see Caroline by her side.
So...now the truth is revealed to him...Caroline is already married to another guy and she was carrying their unborn child in her w.o.m.b. He's feeling the sting of pain right now, much more painful than the first time he knows about Caroline's pregnancy.
He looked at his brother. "So...what do you want me to do?"
"Do the right thing, brother, for once in your life," Alex urged him. "Caroline is already a married woman and pregnant with her husband's child. Let her go, set her free so that she can return to her husband's side and their family will be whole again," he said. He drilled the truth into his brother's subconscious mind hoping Greg will wake up from his fantasy.
Greg fell silent for a moment. Can he let go of Caroline? Although they weren't intimate he was happy just seeing her near him and hearing her voice every day. She's a married woman and yet she chose to be with him, her sacrifice is real. The truth is, she's not by his side because of free will, she was forced by his sister and his brother is right, Caroline is blackmailed by Allison and he knows it from the very beginning.
But he can't also blame his sister Allison, because she just wanted him to be happy, and he appreciated all her efforts for him.
Greg glanced at his brother. "What is the right thing to do then?" he asked even if he already knows what to do.
"Set Caroline free so that she can return to her husband, 'coz the baby in her w.o.m.b deserves to grow up in the right environment. This way our sister Allison will stop blackmailing Caroline. Then we can continue where we left off before Caroline come into our lives. This is the right thing to do brother. Let's stop playing God...let's stop all this madness!" Alex declared with a firm persistence in his voice.
Greg shut off his eyes. How painful it is to let go of the woman he loves? When he was already accustomed to seeing her by his side every day?
Alex saw the conflicted emotions running in his brother's eyes.
"Think it through, brother. No need to rush...I know it's hard for you to let go of the woman you love, but you have to...because these women are into this kind of sick game which they are willing to protect 'till death...do your part by separating them," Alex pressed further. Only by forcing his brother to open his eyes to the truth, things will return to normal.
Greg looked deeper into his brother's serious face. "What did you know about the women's secrets, brother?" he asked curiously.
"Not much, only suspicious, doubts, and theories. I was close to hiring an investigator to put our sister under surveillance 24/7. But after some thinking...I am more afraid of what will I discover that can destroy us, so I just want you to do the right thing this time since you are the reason why Allison blackmail Caroline in the first place," Alex elaborated further.
Greg sighed deeply. His brother is right, because of his desperation of wanting to bring back the love that has been lost already, his sister Allison supports him all the way, devising many plans on how to get back Caroline. They've been planning evilly behind Caroline's back and finally, they succeeded.
Yet, life will always find a way to slap the truth hard in your face.
He's becoming evil for his selfish gains, making her sister evil as well.
Greg released a deep sigh.
Alex has been waiting for his brother's final decision.
Greg took a deep breath. "Brother, let me think things over...You will know about my final decision after two weeks," he said.
Alex gave his brother an affectionate pat on his shoulder. "Think about the innocent child who will suffer if you still insist on keeping Caroline by your side," he said and rose to his feet. "Let's return now to the house...the wind is getting colder outside," he said.
"You go ahead, bro. I'll stay here for a few minutes to think things over," Greg replied as he fixed his gaze on the vast ocean in front of him.
Alex nodded his head and strolled towards the house, looking at the window where Caroline used to watch the ocean. "I did my best to help you and your baby Caroline, I hope my brother can see in his heart what is right and what is wrong and do the right thing once and for all," he said to himself.
He arrived at the door, looked over his shoulder, his brother still sitting on the lounge chair. He addressed Rudy who is standing nearby. "Watch over him, Rudy, but don't come too close 'coz he wants space. I'm going back to my room and rest," he ordered.
"Don't worry, Sir, I'm watching Greg from here," replied Rudy.
Alex entered the house and went upstairs to his room, ready to retire for the night.
