Chapter 257 - Shackles Of The Past

Meanwhile, at Blue Bell Residences.

Caroline was talking to her sister on her phone. "This weekend, I'm going to visit Mother and our siblings," she told her.

"I'm going there too for a visit. I will order foods from the catering restaurant to be delivered there for lunch," Catherine said. "How's life now, sis?"

"Fine," she replied.

"I mean, how is your husband after you came back? I hope he didn't change at all and treating you the same just like before you disappeared. You know, I'm trying to not ask you about your current status because I'm afraid you might get upset with my question," said Catherine.

Caroline finally understood what her sister's question was all about. She was silent for a moment. The truth is, her dark past was already over after Allison's death. She used to be afraid that Alex or Greg will find a way to drag her back into their world, but so far her fears and worries were not happening and she was so much thankful to God for giving her another chance at life. Her dark days were finally over. Her mental and psychological torture in the hands of Allison was now a distant memory. She's finally free from the shackles of her terrifying turbulent past!

"Sis, are you still there?" asked Catherine.

"Yes, I'm still here. Ah...regarding your question...don't worry...my husband and I no longer mention the past. We are living like an ordinary normal couple. We chose to ignore the past and just continue living for the future, for our babies," she said. "My husband is always loving and caring to me. I can't ask for a better husband than him. He is very good to me," Caroline enthused.

"That's good to know, sis. I can finally rest my mind in peace. I'm happy for you. See you on weekend! Byeeeee!" Catherine said.

"Bye, sis!" replied Caroline and ended their conversation. She put her phone in the center table and reached for the remote control.

She was watching the early evening news in the living room when she received a text message from her husband informing her that he will be home at 10:00 in the evening because he and his secretary will need to finish something in the office. He told her to eat dinner on time.

She knows that her husband had hired a secretary which is a woman and it's their first day at work today.

She was debating with herself, should she go and drop a surprise visit to her husband's new office and get to know his secretary up close?

Why not?

She just wants to see the secretary and assessed her appearance if she can be trusted? She won't go there to create a mess. Good thing, she knows where her husband's office was located.

The housemaid called her. "Ma'am Caroline... dinner is ready!"

"Okay," she replied and turned off the television. She stood up, going to the dining room.

She lowered herself on the chair and instructed the maid to join her at the dining table.

They began eating.

Caroline addressed the maid. "After you are done cleaning the kitchen, dress up 'coz we are going to surprise my husband in his new office. I want to see his office and meet his secretary," she said.

"Yes Ma'am," the housemaid replied.

They resumed eating.

After finishing dinner, Caroline went back to the master's bedroom and took a quick shower. She changed into a cotton maternity dress and put her essentials inside her black shoulder bag.

One hour and thirty minutes later. Caroline and the maid were already exiting the flat and getting inside the elevator. They reached the ground floor and went to the parking lot. Caroline entered her car, started the engine, and left the building.

Ten minutes later, they were now traveling in the busy street going to Mike's office.

Inside Mike's office.

He was teaching Althea how to use the office app doc.u.ments assistant on her computer. "You will input your activity here daily. Doc.u.ment who calls our office, write down their concerns, and etcetera. If I'm out of town and open this app, everything is already written here. I don't have to call you each time to ask about anything unless there's something I don't understand," he explained.

Althea nodded her head in understanding.

"Got it?" he asked.

"Yes, sir!" answered Althea.

"Alright, explore the app at your convenience, and don't hesitate to ask me if there is something you don't understand," he said and left her side, going back to his desk.

He sat on the chair and face his laptop. He stared at the left side and looked beyond the transparent glass. He saw the lamp post illuminating the park. He feels a sense of calmness.

Gone were the dark days when he was submerged in the darkness thinking and worrying about where his wife has gone to. He thought that those terrifying filled nights will never end. But God is good and returned his wife on his side and his life is whole again. Now, they are blessed with twins inside Caroline's tummy, he can't wait to hold his babies in his arms.

A smile appeared on his lips.

He was in that state of calmness, he didn't notice that Althea was now behind his chair.

"Do you want a shoulder massage, Sir?" she offered.

He was about to say no but, Althea's hand was already on his shoulder blade working its magic. He can feel the wonderful massage of her hands, soothing to his flesh and creating wonders on her shoulder blade.

He forgot to think that it's wrong to do this type of activity with his secretary because it might lead to something else...?

But then...on the other hand...there is no malice here. They are not doing anything beyond a simple massage.

Right?

Althea continuously giving her employer a soothing massage.

While Mike enjoyed his secretary's extra service.

Meanwhile, Caroline and her maid have just arrived in the building.

Caroline approached the guard.

"Good evening, Ma'am," the guard greeted her and open the door for the women to enter.

"Is your Sir Mike still upstairs?" she asked.

"Yes," the guard replied.

"We're going up there, guard," she said.

"If you need assistance, Ma'am. I can accompany you up," he offered.

"Nah, no need," Caroline said and glanced at the maid. "Let's go..." she told her.

The women went to the elevator section and boarded the first one.

They reached the 15th floor and exited the elevator. They walked towards the end of the hallway where Mike's office was located.

When they reached the end, Caroline knocked on the door three times.
