Chapter 318 - Welcome!

After breakfast.

The OB returned to the room and checked the dilation of Caroline's cervix.

A few minutes later, she finished her check-up.

"Your cervix is now 5 cm, you will be giving birth to the twins any time from now. I will bring you to the delivery room," the OB said.

A male nurse came and transferred Caroline into the stretcher, they left the room along with the OB. Alex and Thelma were trailing behind them going to the delivery room.

The nurse pushed the stretcher into the delivery room, accompanied by the OB.

Alex and Thelma were left outside the door of the delivery room.

The atmosphere suddenly becomes tense.

Alex was pacing back and forth on the floor.

Thelma sat on the bench looking at the door of the delivery room and Alex. She understood his nervousness because he is a first-time father. She closed her eyes and recited a prayer for the safety of her daughter and the smooth delivery of the twins into this world.

Two hours later.

Inside the delivery room.

Caroline was pushing hard... while her OB was assisting her on her delivery.

"Caroline...your cervix dilation is now 10 cm...give me a real hard push...now!" the OB ordered.

Caroline obeyed and push harder...

The cry of the first baby can be heard a few seconds later...and another cry of the second baby followed one minute later.

The delivery room was filled with the crying of the twins.

Tears of happiness and relief flooded Caroline's eyes.

The OB and the nurses smiled and congratulated each other especially the mother for a successful delivery.

The OB exited the room and announced to the people outside. "Guys, both the twins, boy, and girl, were delivered safely and the mother is safe. We will bring her back to her room after we cleaned her. And the twins will follow shortly for further observation because they are a bit overweight and they still have to undergo a newborn screening within 24 hours," she explained.

"Thank God! Thank you, doc!" Thelma and Alex said in unison. Happiness and huge relief washed over them.

The OB smiled and went back inside the delivery room.

Half an hour later.

The twins were taken out of the room and Alex was able to see his first glimpse of the twins before the nurse brings them to the observation room for the newborns. Tears of happiness sprang in his eyes.

Thelma went to Alex's side. "The twins are looking healthy!" she said cheerfully.

"Indeed, Mother!" He beamed feeling proud of himself after fathering two healthy babies. He feels like his heart will explode any moment from now due to great happiness.

The door of the delivery room opened. A male nurse pushed the stretcher out of the room.

Caroline smiled radiantly at Alex and her mother.

They went back to their private room so that Caroline can have a rest.

Inside the private room.

Alex went to Caroline's side. "How are you feeling, babe?" he asked softly. "Do you need anything? Do you want to eat something?"

"I'm feeling fine. Stop worrying about me, danger is over." Caroline replied with a smile. She pointed at the yellow ripe bananas on the table. "I want to eat the banana," she said.

The maid took three bananas, washed them in the sink, and put them in a platter. She gave it to Alex.

Alex holds the plate while Caroline eats the banana.

After Caroline finished eating three bananas, she began yawning. "I'm feeling sleepy..." she said.

"Okay, you can sleep now. Don't worry about the twins, they're well taken care of by the nurses. They will undergo newborn screening first," he explained and continue. "The moment you wake up later, the twins are already by your side," he said lovingly. He planted a quick kiss on her forehead.

After eating a light meal, Caroline dozed off and sleep soundly in the bed. Alex also went to sleep on the couch.

When they woke up three hours later, it's already lunchtime.

Alex sent one of the housemaids outside to buy ready to eat dishes in the restaurant located near the hospital.

After the maid returned, they eat their meals.

Hours went by.

The couple resumed sleeping in the afternoon and wakes up just in time when the twins were finally delivered by the two nurses into the room.

Caroline and Alex looked at the twins with happiness and pride radiating from their eyes.

Alex addressed one of the nurses. "Can I hold my babies in my arms?" he asked.

"Yes, sir!" the nurse replied.

Alex picked up baby Jasmine in his arm and smiled at his daughter. "Welcome to the world, my beloved daughter! Daddy has been waiting for you for a long time," he said, teary-eyed, and kissed her tiny covered feet. He put his baby daughter gently beside Caroline.

Next, he picked up his son baby Gabriel and hold him in his arms. "Welcome to the world, my son! I can't wait to see you grow up quickly and follow in my footsteps and become the best person that you can be. I have so many things to teach you!" he said with a wide grin and kissed the baby's covered feet.

Caroline smiled, feeling happy to see her healthy brood.

One of the nurses spoke. "Sir, Ma'am, we will take our leave. We're done delivering the twins into your room. If you need anything, just look for us in the nurse station," she said.

"Thank you, nurse," Caroline responded with a smile.

The two nurses left the room.

The couple was holding the babies in their arms and feeding them one by one with Caroline's b.r.e.a.s.t milk.

Two hours later.

The door opened and Catherine entered inside. She brought flowers and fruits for her twin sister and handed them to the housemaids.

"Where are the twins?" she asked excitedly.

Thelma was admiring the babies in the crib. "Here they are!" she responded.

Catherine rushed to the cribs and smiled brightly. "Aww...the twins look so cute and so big!" she squealed in delight. "Hello, my lovely niece and nephew! Welcome to the world!" she chattered jubilantly.

A few minutes later, she went to her sister's bed. "How are you, sis?" she inquired about her condition.

Caroline smiled. "I'm fine... thanks for visiting," she said.

"Where's brother-in-law?" she asked.

"He went outside to buy something," Caroline replied.

"Ah, okay. So... how many days you will stay here?" she inquired.

"I'll be staying here for three days," answered Caroline.

"Good! I'll bring Jacob and Lily here tomorrow so that they can see the twins," she said. "I brought your favorite cassava cake. You want to eat?"

Caroline nodded her head. "Yes, please!"

The housemaid put a slice of cassava cake on the platter along with the spoon and gave it to Caroline.

"Eat well!" Catherine said and went back to her mother's side to continue admiring the newborn twins.

Catherine stayed in the next three hours in the room, chatting merrily with Thelma and Caroline. Then she went home at 7:00 in the evening.

Caroline and Alex spent the rest of the evening doting on their babies, and sleep at 9:00 in the evening.

One of the housemaids stayed awake the whole night to watch over the babies.
