After we had been chatting for a while, drinking tea and eating sweets, Regina put the cup in her hand on the table.
That was the signal for me to get down to business.
「I called you here to ask a favor on behalf of Zelma-sama, who is out of town.」
She’s not here? Since she had ambitions to become the head of the family and raise her title, she must be doing a lot of work behind the scenes.
I can’t imagine what she’s doing, but it doesn’t seem like a pleasant story to me.
「Two important people are coming to Yang tomorrow. One is Roy, who will be taking over as the “Head of the Adventurer’s Guild”, and the other is Alma, the “Combat Bishop”. Lars, you are to guide Roy, and Sophie, you are to guide Alma. Please.」
I hadn’t met either of them before, but judging by their titles, I was sure they were important people.
An organization is a strong reflection of the ideology of its top management. Knowing their personalities will help me understand the movements of the Adventurer’s Guild and the Church, which I can do for Yang. This request makes a lot of sense to me, too.
「You’re coming, Alma-san ……」
Sophie, sitting next to me, looked a little gloomy. You can tell from her demeanor that she’s(Alma) not a very good partner.
It’s no wonder that as a former Saint, she has all information about church officials, especially high-ranking ones like Bishops.
Since this is the person I’m going to get involved with in the future, I should also ask about her impression of Alma from Sophie’s point of view.
「Do you know her?」
「Yes. And she is a famous person in the church. Her hatred for the undead is stronger than anyone else’s, and she’s determined to destroy them with her own hands. If you only look at her fighting ability, she is one of the best in the church, but since she doesn’t choose any means, some people call her a madman. I was impressed by her eyes that looked as if she hated everything in this world.」
A Bishop who hates the undead? I’m sure she’s the type of girl who fights on the front lines because she’s called a fighter. …… A madman is the worst. If it’s for the purpose, I don’t care about the damage around me. It’s the kind of person who brings misfortune just by being there. This is that type of person.
There were similar kinds of guys in my Adventurer days, but they died most of the time. And a few of them, the ones who survived, developed a logic that normal people couldn’t understand, and continued to commit crimes while gaining more and more supporters. In the end, they are defeated by the Knights and Heroes and die, which is, well, a common flow.
I don’t know what Roy, who will be dispatched from the headquarters, will do, but I can see a future where he will be in head-on confrontation with the Adventurer’s Guild that wants to monopolize the dungeon and explore it.
Yang will become even more noisy.
As I was drawing such a picture of the future, Regina opened her mouth.
「She’s a papist1 I might add. The Priests and Church Knights she will bring along with her will be as well. The Church’s scrutiny will be strong at once, so please be careful not to say or do anything unnecessary.」
The Eller’s are also close friends with the Pope, so I guess they already have information about the factions.
They have to stop the dispatch of people who glorify the current saint. Even if can’t stop the Pope’s faction from coming, they don’t know what they’ll do once the extremists arrive. So the Bishop who hates the undead was sent as a fallback plan?
If we assume that there are three factions in the church, the former saints, the current saints, and the Pope, it’s a safe choice. I could understand why Zelma allowed her to stay in Yang.
Then, what about the Adventurer’s Guild?
It was Licht’s role to meet with the leaders of the Adventurer’s Guild, so I have no information about Roy. I wanted to get some information about him, as I was sure I would be getting more involved with him in the future.
1 Papist(meaning)= (noun) belonging to the Pope’s faction.
