Chapter 53

Someone suddenly laughed behind them, breaking the atmosphere.

Lu Jingzhi slowly walked over with a smile on his face, “Big brother, are you lecturing a student? It’s so rare to see such an obedient student nowadays!”

Qiao Mu’s eyes were very hostile when she glanced at Lu Jingzhi. She ignored the other person and turned to the side to look at Li Yan as she continued, “Uncle, please don’t be angry anymore.”

Her voice sounded coy when she pleaded. Her big eyes blinked as she stared intently at him, and her actions made her seem extremely obedient and adorable.

The coldness on Li Yan’s face slowly dissipated from her attitude. He glanced at Lu Jingzhi, who sat opposite them and showed no signs of leaving. It started to irk him.

But Lu Jingzhi remained unaware of Li Yan’s ire. He continued regardless of the potential danger he was in, “Qiao Mu, he’s not your biological uncle, yet you’re so used to calling him uncle.”

Qiao Mu stared at Lu Jingzhi in annoyance, “Mister Lu, I don’t think you’re in a position to educate me. Can’t you see that we’re having a conversation? Why do you interrupt us in such a rude manner? Don’t you know that your actions are very annoying?”

Lu Jingzhi raised his brow nonchalantly. In front of Li Yan, Qiao Mu was as obedient and sensible as a child. But she was a completely different person when she was facing him and she acted like she was covered in thorns.

Lu Jingzhi crossed his legs, “Miss Qiao, your temperament is as arrogant as usual. You’ll suffer losses in the future if you continue to act like this.”

“Suffer what losses?”

A low voice said slowly. Li yan glanced indifferently at Lu Jingzhi, “Tell me, what losses will she suffer?”

His tone sounded extremely strong and arrogant.

Lu Jingzhi was stunned as he said helplessly, “Big brother, it’s not good for you to indulge her.”

Li Yan looked up, “Do you have any opinions?”

“…No!” How did he dare have any opinions?

Lu Jingzhi could only suffer in silence. Why did Li Yan take it so seriously when he was simply joking around?

His unrestrained act in protecting Qiao Mu now was just the same as back then!

Lu Jingzhi finally understood why Su Chen very tactfully did not come over to butt in. No one could simply take advantage of Qiao Mu!

Lu Jingzhi shook his head as he recalled those years. He had once believed that Li Yan would never really get together with Qiao Mu…

He also had moments where he made an error of judgement when he was younger.

Qiao Mu felt a ripple of emotion. She could sense that Li Yan was protecting her. This familiar nostalgia was somewhat saddening, but she did not know how to react to it.

But she could not hold back the warmth that oozed from the bottom of her heart. Although she did not want to admit it, she was extremely happy about this.

“Let’s go.”

The man beside her stood up. Qiao Mu raised her head to meet his gaze, and then got up obediently and followed behind him as he went out.

…..

It was extremely quiet in the car.

Qiao Mu lowered her head in silence. Some of her memories came back to her after she met his friends.

Qiao Mu did not like Lu Jingzhi, and she always disliked him.

When Li Yan went abroad, Qiao Mu was ill and bedridden. When she finally could get off her bed and ran to the Li family’s mansion, she only saw Lu Jingzhi as Li Yan had already left by then.

She remembered clearly when Lu Jingzhi stared disapprovingly at her, and very cruelly told her that she was unfit for Li Yan, that they were people of two worlds. He said that she was still young, and she would understand when she got older.

Usually Qiao Mu, who was always optimistic, would not mind these words. But slowly, Qiao Mu realized that Li Yan had truly disappeared from her life. After that, it was just as Lu Jingzhi said, Li Yan and her were indeed living in two different worlds.

As Qiao Mu was lost in her thoughts, a large hand ruffled her hair, “Your mind can still wander when you’re beside me? What are you thinking?”
