Chapter 763 - You Are the Viper

Chapter 763: You Are the Viper

It was clear from the onset that the traitor’s identity was to be kept a secret.

The information must not be passed on to Yao Tang and her companions, or anyone outside their organization.

Chauffeur Wang scrambled to his feet and tried to round the car and flee the assailant.

To his horror, another person appeared, this one also brandishing a knife. It was the Deputy Chief. He held up his blade and made to stab Chauffeur Wang.

But in the next second, Yao Tang picked up a pebble and hurled it at the Deputy Chief, hitting him square in the wrist.

The man’s dagger fell to the ground.

Yao Tang wasted no time and dealt with the first assassin as well.

Once both men were incapacitated, she went over and cut off the tendons in their hands and feet to ensure that they didn’t spring any further attacks.

Yao Tang turned to look at President Tan. “Do you know this person they call the Viper? Or anyone else who might be related to this matter?”

However, President Tan looked just as baffled as she felt.

He wasn’t familiar with the people in the Cabinet to begin with. The only person he was acquainted with was Elder Xu, but President Tan wouldn’t go so far as to say that he really knew the man.

“We might have to refer this to the Cabinet,” he said slowly. “We are still in the dark about many things, and should not act carelessly.”

Judging by his reaction, Yao Tang surmised that he didn’t know anything about the Viper, either.

She then turned to Chauffeur Wang. “Which organization are these people from? What did they come here for?”

If she couldn’t find any leads regarding this Viper person, she might as well start from what little clues she currently had.

Chauffeur Wang looked up in surprise. He wasn’t expecting her to ask the question. All this time, he had presumed that she was a skilled combatant sent by the Cabinet to dispose of the goons.

He had previously heard that she was the new apprentice taken in by the Cabinet Elders.

Did she really not know anything?

How could she have defeated those men without even knowing who they were?

The two groveling assassins were also quite shocked by what they were hearing. They gaped at Yao Tang, their disbelief almost surpassing their pain.

Did she really have no idea?

Chauffeur Wang opened his mouth, but before he could utter a word, a car suddenly came up in the distance, heading toward their direction at an alarming speed.

A few seconds later, it screeched to a halt next to them.

“Who are these people?” Tan Jian muttered, his brows furrowed.

Several other cars were following behind. He had a bad feeling about this.

He instinctively stepped forward and shielded President Tan with his body.

If these people had come to rescue them, then all was well and good. But he knew that none of them had sent distress signals or anything of the sort.

Tan Jian soon realized that the cars were all black, and their windows were all heavily tinted.

He knew then that whoever these people were, they had come with ill intentions.

Tan Jian grew more alert. He needed to be quick, or he might not be able to protect Yao Tang and his father this time.

He couldn’t very well rely on Yao Tang and let her shoulder the fight by herself. No matter how powerful she was, there was no guarantee that she would never be at a disadvantage.

Soon, all the cars ground to a stop. Dozens of people alighted in unison.

They were dressed in casual clothes, with no discerning sign that could identify which particular gang they belonged to.

What was obvious, though, was that they were indeed some criminal organization.

The last to come out was a man in a suit. He stepped down from the car in the middle with a gentle smile on his face.

Sure enough, he was one of the Cabinet Elders.

He had been at the banquet, too. In fact, he had sat at the table opposite Yao Tang and her companions.

The man slowly walked towards her, his henchmen trailing behind him. He stopped when he was just about three steps away from Yao Tang, his amiable smile still in place. He looked just like any ordinary grandpa.

“Elder Nie? What are you doing here?”

Tan Jian took another step forward, looking utterly confused. He couldn’t think of a single reason why the old man would be in this place.

President Tan immediately pulled him back and knocked his head lightly. “Idiot! Don’t you understand what’s happening? Can’t you even read the atmosphere?”

Elder Nie nodded at Tan Jian before shifting his gaze over to Yao Tang. “Miss Yao Tang, you truly are extraordinary! It’s no wonder those old geezers were desperate to take you as their disciple.”

Yao Tang only stared at him and said nothing.

Chauffeur Wang’s attention was caught by Elder Nie’s walking stick.

When he noticed the scar on the old man’s hand, he couldn’t stop himself from blurting out, “It’s you! You’re the Viper, aren’t you?”
