Chapter 49

The Commissioner didn't stay very long. No sooner than he's subordinates had left, he also bid them goodbye with the excuse that he still has another engagement to attend too.

"Please! Do me a favor, while you are in the country, may I take this opportunity to invite both of you to dinner at my home?" The commissioner asked in a friendly manner while looking at Ashley as well.

Tanaga didn't have much of choice. Since the man had made a special trip to do him a favor, he could also return it with kindness. "Sure! Let me know when, and we will be more than happy to attend." He then turned to Ashley as if he wanted approval. "Right, honey?"

Ashley was stunned with Tanaga's question. She has no choice but to reply cordially while putting on the sweetest smile she could conjure. "Sure! Do let us know, and we would be happy to attend." She second what Tanaga had said as not to embarrass him in front of the commissioner.

As soon as the Commissioner left, Ashley took the opportunity to ask a question.

"Tanaga, may I ask a question?"

"Sure! What is it?"

"Can I make a call to my family now that we are here? It's more than a week since I left and I promised them that I would call them as soon as I arrived in Japan. However, I had lost my phone and if I remember correctly... You have them." Ashley told him straight up.

Tanaga turned red with the thought of the cellphone that he had been keeping to himself. He was planning on giving it back to her, but it always slipped his mind. Unfortunately, he didn't take the phone with him when they left. It still in his safe in his office at home.

"Oh, I remember now! I was planning on giving it back to you several times already. For some reason or another, It always slips my mind. Unfortunately, it's at home. Remind me when we get back, alright?!" He said it as sweetly as he could, for he knows he made a big mistake.

"Don't fret, and you can use my phone. If you don't mind?" He gently offered his phone with a motive. He wanted her to use his phone, so the phone number of her family would be registered on his phone. So' if she ever decided to run off of him, he could always find her.

Ashley smiled and was ready to accept the offer. However, she realized that her parents might not answer the call if they don't know who's the caller. She could always text them first. Then once they know that she would be calling them, she would later call back. That's an idea, and she happily stretches her hand waiting for Tanaga to hand over his cellphone.

Tanaga scratches his head while looking at her sheepishly. "I'm sorry, Ashley! The phone is in the cabin. I didn't think I would need it, so I left it there. Let's go get it!"

He said while his eyes were twinkling with a thought in his mind... ' Time to continue our honeymoon... Hahaha!'
