The Food Was Delicious
However, Zhao Chuchu knew very well that her culinary skills were lacking. The food she had stored in the space was mainly processed food.
They included buns, dumplings, roast duck, and grilled chicken. They were in the exact form as when she placed them in the space.
If she had to cook for herself, she was certain she would be poisoned by her own cooking.
Zhao Chuchu could never forget how she ended up in hospital on the few occasions that she had cooked for herself.
Indeed, the heavens opened most doors for people. Somehow there would be doors that remained forever closed to some people. They could never be pried open no matter how hard they tried.
Zhao Chuchu closed the kitchen door and looked at the food in the space.
She was troubled that she could not take any of them out for the Xie brothers.
After all, they had nothing to begin with. She would not be able to explain where she got the food from.
Zhao Chu Chu shut herself in the kitchen for more than an hour. Finally, she took out the egg and leek buns which were pre-made. She brought them out to the dining table.
Xie Jun was already home and was studying with Xie Heng.
Xie Heng was teaching him to read the “Thousand Character Classic”.
As soon as he saw the white, fluffy buns, Xie Jun forgot how to recite the prose and swallowed hard.
Zhao Chuchu called out to the brothers. “Dinner is ready. It’s just a simple meal of buns today.”
The look of surprise on Xie Heng’s face faded quickly.
Xie Jun ran to the table merrily. “Sister, the buns smell so good.”
“Really? Quick, go and wash your hands.”
“Okay.”
Xie Jun ran out of the house to wash his hands.
Xie Heng looked at Zhao Chuchu, confused. “You made the buns?”
Zhao Chuchu replied in a low voice, “Do you think the buns will appear from nowhere if I didn’t make them? It’s good enough that we have these to eat. Don’t be picky.”
Xie Jun shouted from outside, “Brother, I’ll bring the basin of water over so you can wash your hands.” Shortly after, he came into the house with a basin of water.
He went out again to pour the water away after Xie Heng had washed his hands. He then sat at the table, waiting patiently for Zhao Chuchu to hand him the buns.
Zhao Chuchu gave Xie Jun three buns. “Take more after you finish these.”
Xie Jun nodded. “Thank you, Sister.” His eyes sparkled as he took a bite of the bun. “Sister, the buns taste so good. They’re delicious!”
Zhao Chuchu felt a little guilty. “Take more if you like them so much.”
Xie Heng stole a glance at Zhao Chuchu.
Zhao Chuchu soon noticed that he was observing her. She quickly stuffed a bun in his hand. “Da Lang, have some too.”
It was the first time Xie Jun had eaten such a bun. Not caring about his etiquette, he gobbled them down quickly.
Deep in thought, Xie Heng ate them very slowly.
Xie Jun had eaten five buns. If Zhao Chuchu had not stopped him, he would have taken more.
Zhao Chuchu said sternly, “Don’t eat so many. You will get a stomachache. We can eat them for breakfast tomorrow.”
Xie Jun looked pitifully at Zhao Chuchu. “Can I take one more?”
“No.”
“Junjun!”
When Xie Jun heard Xie Heng, he stopped asking for more immediately.
At night, after Xie Jun had fallen asleep, Xie Heng went to Zhao Chuchu’s room.
Xie Heng got straight to the point with her. “You can start treating my eyes tomorrow.”
Zhao Chuchu raised her eyebrows.
“Your behavior is riddled with loopholes. You’re acting so differently from the real Zhao Chuchu. Not many people eat buns here.”
“Now you are picking on my cooking so much. You seemed to be enjoying them when you were eating just now though.”
Xie Heng tried to find the right words to say. “After I regain my eyesight, I will do all the cooking.”
He did not want to pursue the matter of how Zhao Chuchu managed to get the buns.
Zhao Chuchu’s identity was still a mystery, and he did not want to make her his enemy.
“Really?” Zhao Chuchu looked doubtful. “Don’t the educated people believe that you should stay away from the kitchen?”
Xie Heng hesitated for a moment. “My culinary skills… should be good enough.”
