Chapter 865: Julian And Rowena In Kilshade

The next few days soon flew by and before they knew it, both Rowena and Julian got the hang of how to be an excellent magician and assistant performer. During the entire festival, the two of them gained a lot of spectators who enjoyed their show and contributed to their income.

"Thank you so much for coming! All of you have been very amazing guests!" Julian grinned as he accepted a bouquet from Rowena. He plucked one then threw a rose among the crowd and watched a lot of young women eagerly fight over it.

Rowena rolled her eyes at the sight, but she understood that she wasn't the only one who knew how to put their good looks to use. While Julian was not as well-versed as Rowena when it came to book knowledge, he was quick to think on his feet and knew how to get himself out of situations.

"We will never forget you!" Julian said as his parting words and then threw a wink at Rowena.

She slowly nodded and quickly set out to work as their curtains drew to a close and the short applause that the crowd made. Despite the sizable crowd, the two slipped away and blended in with the others once their show was done.

"Phew, finally glad it's over," Julian said as he and Rowena navigated back to the inn.

There were all sorts of people, and they were all bustling and pushing against each other, all eager to get home no doubt. However, Rowena didn't need to be concerned that much. At first, it was awkward to elbow other people, but now she didn't have to.

Rowena only needed to grab Julian's sleeve and the two of them slipped through the sea of people without even one person bumping her.

"Excuse us."

"Pardon me."

Julian said and threw her a relaxed grin. It was no surprise that he managed to slip out of the Ashland castle before undetected. Not only was he very good at getting out of tricky events, Julian also knew how to read the atmosphere.

That was why, after their performance and they arrived back at the inn to rest and relax, Julian and Rowena discussed something important.

Despite the numerous coins that were accounted for by Rowena as she counted their earnings of the day, he turned to address her.

"I think it's time for us to leave," Julian said.

"Huh? How come?" Rowena raised a brow. "The festival is supposed to be around two weeks long, Julian. We're making decent money."

"Do you like it here?" Julian asked.

"Not particularly, but we're doing fine and nobody has really caught on to what we're doing." Rowena smiled. She had watched very carefully among the crowd and not once did they ever realize what happened right under their noses.

"Not yet," Julian said. "But sooner or later, we have to get on the move. We have more than enough money, right? It's time for us to strike out in another city, preferably farther away than this place."

"I understand." Rowena nodded.

And she truly did.

Julian knew how intelligent she was and how she understood their situation wel

l. He didn't have any problems with communication when it came to her. They really made such a good team.

"Thanks, Rowena." Julian smiled. "Let's find another place to visit when we wake up later. Tonight was the final show so we deserve some rest."

To his surprise though, Rowena suddenly pulled out a scroll from her bag and laid it on their table. When he glanced over her shoulder to see, he saw that it was the sketch of a map that had several other locations encircled.

"What's this?" Julian asked.

"Well, during our break time, I bought a map and familiarized myself with the continent. In this current kingdom, there are perfectly good locations that are far away from each other. If we make the same amount of money from here as we get to the next cities, then we'd be able to save too and not worry about logistics."

"We can save too?" Julian asked in surprise.

Rowena smiled and nodded. "Of course, and we really have to save money too, Julian. We need to make an emergency fund and some contingency plans. I haven't discussed them before since you always passed out after we performed, but I'd like for you to look over it."

"You're really good at this stuff, Rowena," Julian said in amazement. "You really would have made a great ruler… well, if not for this."

Rowena's expression flickered as she remembered Ashland. Julian's village had suffered from famine, many other people died because of her… but if she had persevered, perhaps other villages and cities didn't need to suffer in the future.

She might have been able to make their life better.

"Yeah, I might have," Rowena softly said.

"Er, nevermind what I said." Julian noticed her downcast expression and smiled kindly at her. He was aware that there were things that he couldn't help her with. Julian was nothing more but an ordinary young man who knew how to survive on the streets.

If he could lift the burden and make her smile, he would have.

"Let's just finalize the details tomorrow and get to sleep then?" Rowena smiled weakly as she rolled up the map and pulled up to her feet. "I could use some sleep now."

"Wait!"

"Huh?" Rowena blinked as she glanced at Julian. "What is it?"

"Are you really sleepy?" Julian asked. "Tonight will be our last day here at Kilshade as travelers, well, excluding tomorrow morning when we leave."

"Yes, that is the case."

"You're not an old grandpa who needs to sleep early, Rowena." Julian extended his hand and grinned. "Come on, the night is young, so let's go out some more. You still have more energy than me, right?"

Rowena blinked at the challenge before she raised a brow. "Where are we going?"

"Well… we haven't been able to enjoy the festival because we were so preoccupied with making money," Julian said. "Let's have a break and enjoy ourselves tonight, okay? Let out some stress too."

Rowena looked at Julian seriously for a moment, before she smiled and nod

ded. "Okay."

I have to work for 5 days on another island, so I can't write as much as usual from tomorrow. Apologies for the less-than-ideal update. I will still publish one chapter per day for this book. I hope it's okay.

I also plan to extend my stay after the job because the island is super beautiful (You can google "Komodo Island"). That's why I will bring my kids with me. Hopefully, the fresh air can bring me more inspiration and I can write more quality content for you. xx
