Chapter 64: It's urgent

Name:The Demon Queen's Contract Author:
Together, we set out to uncover the truth and put an end to the threat that loomed over us. The path ahead was uncertain, but I knew that with Nara's help and my own determination, we would find a way to protect those we loved and secure a future for our realm.

Nara led me through the dimly lit corridors of the castle, her movements swift and silent. I struggled to keep up with her pace, my mind racing with questions and anxieties. The threat of the poisoners hung over me like a dark cloud, and I couldn't shake the feeling of dread that accompanied our every step.

"Nara, what exactly did you find out?" I asked, my voice a whisper in the quiet of the night.

She glanced back at me, her green eyes glinting with determination. "I've identified one of the key members of the faction. He's a high-ranking official in the eastern province, someone who's been hiding in plain sight."

My heart skipped a beat. "Who is it?"

Nara hesitated for a moment before answering. "His name is Lord Valtor. He's well-respected in the community, but he's been using his position to secretly undermine the realm. He's the one who hired the poisoner."

The name sent a shiver down my spine. I'd heard of Lord Valtor; he was known for his charisma and influence. If he was behind the poisoning, it meant our enemy was far more powerful and connected than I had imagined.

"What do we do now?" I asked, trying to steady my voice.

Nara's expression hardened. "We need to gather evidence of his involvement and expose him. It's the only way to ensure he can't harm anyone else."

We made our way to Nara's quarters, where she had compiled all the information she had gathered. The room was cluttered with papers and maps, each one detailing different aspects of her investigation. She handed me a stack of documents, her eyes serious.

"Here," she said. "These are the records I've managed to collect. They show a pattern of Valtor's activities, but we need more concrete proof."

I flipped through the documents, my mind absorbing the details. Financial transactions, meetings with known criminals, and reports of suspicious activities—all pointing to Valtor's involvement. But Nara was right; we needed something undeniable to bring him down.

"We should start by investigating his properties," I suggested. "If he's hiding something, it's likely to be there."

Nara nodded in agreement. "There's an estate on the outskirts of the eastern province. It's heavily guarded, but I've managed to identify a few weak points in their security. If we're careful, we should be able to get inside and find what we need."

The plan was risky, but it was our best shot. We spent the next few hours preparing, gathering supplies and planning our route. As the first light of dawn began to filter through the windows, we were ready to set out.

"Nara, thank you for doing this," I said, feeling a surge of gratitude. "I couldn't do it without you."

She gave me a small smile. "We're in this together, Elara. Let's go."

We left the castle under the cover of early morning, our destination set. The journey to Lord Valtor's estate was long and arduous, but we moved with purpose, driven by the need to protect our realm.

As we approached the estate, I couldn't help but feel a sense of foreboding. The property was vast, surrounded by high walls and patrolled by armed guards. It looked more like a fortress than a home.

The figure stepped forward, and I recognized the face of one of the castle's trusted guards. "We don't have much time," he said, his voice urgent. "I'm here to help you. We need to move quickly."

Nara and I exchanged a glance, a flicker of hope reigniting. We followed the guard out of the cell, moving swiftly through the corridors of the estate. He led us to a hidden passage, one that would take us out of the grounds undetected.

"Thank you," I said, feeling a surge of gratitude.

The guard nodded. "Just make sure this evidence gets to the council. It's the only way to stop Valtor."

We slipped through the passage, emerging outside the estate's walls. The night air was cool and refreshing, a stark contrast to the stifling cell. We moved quickly, making our way back to the castle with the ledger in hand.

As we approached the castle gates, the first light of dawn began to break. We were exhausted but determined, knowing that the fate of the realm rested on our shoulders.

Inside the castle, we made our way to the council chamber, the ledger clutched tightly in my hand. We burst through the doors, startling the council members from their morning deliberations.

"What is the meaning of this?" one of them demanded, his eyes narrowing as he looked at us.

I stepped forward, holding up the ledger. "We have evidence of Lord Valtor's crimes. He's been working with a known poisoner to undermine the realm."

The council members exchanged glances, their expressions a mix of shock and skepticism. "These are serious accusations," another member said. "We will need to examine this evidence carefully."

Nara and I waited as the council pored over the documents, their expressions growing more serious with each passing moment. Finally, the head of the council looked up, his face grim.

"This is indeed troubling," he said. "We will take immediate action to apprehend Lord Valtor and bring him to justice. Your bravery in bringing this to our attention will not go unnoticed."

Relief washed over me, but it was tempered by the knowledge that our work was far from over. We had won this battle, but the war for the realm's future was just beginning.

As we left the council chamber, I turned to Nara, my heart filled with gratitude. "Thank you for everything. I couldn't have done this without you."

She smiled, her eyes filled with determination. "We're in this together, Elara. Let's keep fighting for what's right."

We made our way back to my quarters, the events of the night weighing heavily on my mind. The threat of the faction was still real, but we had struck a significant blow against them. And with Nara by my side, I knew we could face whatever challenges lay ahead.

Just as we reached my quarters, a servant approached, her face pale and anxious. "Lady Elara, you're needed in the meeting room immediately."

My heart skipped a beat. "What's happened?"

"I don't know, my lady," the servant replied. "But it's urgent."
