Chapter - 186
"Are you here yet?" Wearing a black tuxedo, a bow tie, and with his chair nicely gelled and combed hair, Alex stood in a corner talking on the phone with someone.
He was in a large, brightly lit room designed like the twentieth-century European architecture. And to make it even more magnificent, majestic chandeliers hung from the tall ceilings.
But even the hall paled in comparison to the people. While he stood in the corner, there were tons of people walking around him. And every one of them looked rich, very rich. Actually, it was the pre-release event for their new project. But more than anything, it was a party for the rich to take a break, gather together and boast.
Well, it could also be an opportunity for some to make a few connections.
Everyone had a smile on their face as they greeted each other. If one were to just look at the appearance, the party was nothing but an amicable gathering of the rich. But that was only on the surface. Not everyone was as jolly as it seemed. Everyone only cared about those they found of use. For example, while Alex stood alone, no one cared about him.
Not a single person even greeted him.
Why?
Because he was a nobody. So, unless somebody like him was clinging to a thick thigh, no one was going to approach them. They have to make efforts to introduce themselves, hoping to build connections and get some chunk of meat thrown their way.
Luckily, Alex was not here to get anyone's share of the pie. He was only concerned about not being part of any unnecessary trouble. He had already done his part for the last three months. Now, it was all up to Jessica, and from what Alex knew about her, Jessica would do a good job. So right now, he had his attention somewhere else.
"No need to hurry. Just give me a call when you are here, and I will meet you at the entrance," Alex was all smiles when he ended the call. But as soon as he turned to look at the gathering, he sighed. Being the granddaughter of the richest man in the city certainly had its perks. Just a small affair, and every other wealthy and influential person in the city was under one roof. It was remarkable.
But despite the dazzle, Alex felt out of place. This was clearly not his sort of thing. But compared to him, his parents and his brother were totally different. Not only did they assimilate into the crowd, Alex felt they were one of the focal points of this gathering.
"A friend, "And saying so, Alex walked away.
"Wonder who got him this excited," Damien looked confused as he watched Alex leave.
"Who is excited," While Damien looked in Alex's direction, someone asked. It was Martha. She got tired of the constant stream of people coming up to her for greetings. She thought maybe her two sons would help ward off some for her.
"... Where is your brother going?" Martha asked as she saw Alex walk away.
"Don't know." Damien shook his head, "He got a call from some friend of his and just ran out to get them," Damien told Martha.
"Friend? He invited his friend to the party?" Martha looked surprised. She didn't even know if Alex had a friend.
"Is it a boy," Martha looked curiously at Damien, "Or perhaps a girl?"
"Only god knows what he does," Damien shook his head, "I am telling you, it wouldn't be surprising if one day he just walked in with a kid in his arms and introduced his wife... aaa... aaa... What the fuck!" Damien suddenly looked horrified.
"Watch your tongue. We are not at home anymore," Martha hurriedly tried to shush Damien.
But instead of replying to Martha, Damien grabbed her shoulder and turned her to look in the opposite direction.
"Eeehh... What are you..." Martha was perplexed by Damien's sudden behaviour. But when she saw the scene in front of her, even her eyes grew wide in shock.
"What the fuck!" Martha also cursed. And now both mother and son looked in front of them, horrified.
