Chapter 12: End of Day 1
Folia: “Oh, Razé-chan! Let’s go back together!”
Razé appeared in front of Folia and Carna right after the welcome party ended.
“Good night, everyone. Have a sweet dream,” Folia greeted the others and walked over to Razé. Prince Ruben was standing next to Kana, and they didn’t want to disturb the couple so they decided to left together right away.
Razé: “I’m sorry I left you during the party. Did you enjoy yourself?”
Folia: “Un. I was surprised that a lot of people would talk to me. But it made me realized that I’ve become a member of Centrior too. The party was really exciting.”
Razé: “That’s good.”
As they walked down the corridor heading towards the dormitory, their excitement faded away.
Folia: “Once we get back, I need to write a letter.”
Razé: “Ah, to that person?”
“Oops!” Folia made another slip of the tongue. She was not good at hiding secret. This elicited a chuckle from Razé.
Razé: “Hahaha. Folia, you are so cute~”
Folia: “Hey, don’t laugh at me~”
As they talked and laughed, they soon reached the dormitories. They planned to take a bath and then go to sleep.
Razé: “Let’s go take a bath first!”
Folia: “Okay. It’s late already. I need to go to bed soon!”
Currently it was around 9pm. For someone that was accustomed to sleep at this time showed that she had a good upbringing. They first went to change their dress to plain clothes, then they went to the bathhouse where her seniors had brought them earlier. Looking at the size of the locker room made Razé wondered how big the bathroom would be.
Raze quickly took off her clothes. Right when she lifted her shirt, she heard sounds of gasp !(꒪ꇴ꒪|||). She turned around and saw the young ladies nearby had turned pale. She tilted her head and wondered what had scared them. She turned around and saw Folia staring at her with rounded eyes.
Is there something weird on my body? Raze checked her body, but found nothing strange except for the black wound on her side courtesy of the Baruda monster.
“Oh …” She then realized that it was not normal for someone to have such a wound. This was the only wound she had that couldn’t be healed. Razé didn’t think much about it because it had become a part of herself.
She hurriedly released her hand and put down her shirt. It seemed it would be better if she came back again later when there were no people around. She felt sorry to leave Folia alone, but it couldn’t be helped. Indeed, it didn’t feel good when someone shouted after seeing your body.
Razé: “Sorry for showing you an unsightly view … Folia, you go ahead and take your time. I’ll come back later when no one is around.”
Folia: “Razé-chan …”
Looking at Folia’s sad face, Razé thought, don’t make such sad face. It stimulates my maternal instinct. Although I’m the one who make you look sad, can I stroke your head?! Razé reached out her hand unintentionally.
Razé: “See you later.”
She first observed Folia’s body proportion that looked like it belonged to a female lead, then she went out. The lights off was at 12 midnight. Considering the ladies here would follow the standard beauty regime, it would be safe for her to go to the bathhouse after 11pm.
She returned to her room and she lay down on her bed. Compared to camping out in the wilderness, her bed was very comfortable.
“I can’t. I might fall asleep like this.” She got up and sat down at her desk. She took out a thick diary from the drawer and started to summarize the things that happened that day. She wrote her diary in Japanese, the language from her previous life, as a precaution in case someone read it.
“Let’s see. On the first day of my memorable school life, I met an angel …”
It didn’t mean that she died and went to heaven. It just meant that she was in a blissful environment that could be mistaken for a paradise. The saint in that paradise could be described as an angel. Well, considering that she had been secretly worshipping Folia as a saint, it could be said that she was at the mercy of this world, which was different from her military life.
Razé’s memories of her previous life was of a world where there was no war and she had lived a good life. But it was not something that she had experience in this world or with this body. It was just a knowledge that existed in her head. Her personality resembled her previous self because of that knowledge. As she was born in this world, then she would live her life based on the rationality of this world. She would never deny the class society nor the faith practiced here.
If the previous her who had lived a peaceful life had become Razé as it is, then she would not have made the choice to join the military.
“…” Raze rubbed the wound on her stomach over her clothes. Since the characteristics of the monsters in Baruda were mainly unknown, the reason why her wound had become black was unclear too.
“Perhaps there are some clues in the Centrior’s library.” Similar to her, there were many soldiers who had wound that looked like a curse. What she had said to Harlens was the truth, she wanted to study about the monsters since she had the chance to learn at the academy. Raze spun her pen around.
“Razé-chan.” Folia came into the room. Her cheeks reddened from the hot bath.
Razé: “Welcome back. How was the bath?”
Folia: “Good. Hmm, about your wound …”
Razé: “It was from the past.”
Folia: “… that must have hurt a lot.”
Folia knelt in front of Razé and took her hand. Her eyes were that of a merciful saint.
Razé: “The wound only hurt sometime. I’m fine.”
“…May the healing of the stars reach you.” Folia said a prayer. Her move was so natural. It showed that she was raised in a prestigious church and has the characteristic of a clergywoman.
Razé: “Thank you.”
Folia: “I’m sorry that all I can do for you at the moment is this.”
Razé: “It’s fine.”
Each single wound had its own memories. As a soldier, death was always close behind. And she also had lost fellow comrade. Without this wound, Razé was afraid that she might forgot those sad memories. She just hoped that there wouldn’t be a day when Captain Bonalt would tell her that she was a war freak.
Folia: “Razé-chan, you’re a strong person.”
Razé: “I’m not.”
She smiled at Folia. She was just a coward. She fought because she didn’t want to die. She had done things that a saint wouldn’t have imagined.
Folia stoop up and sit on the opposite bed. It seemed like she was really going to sleep.
Folia: “The lessons will start tomorrow. I’m anxious.”
Razé: “Yeah. I think there will be theory lessons. But basically, we will learn how to use magic in practical classes. Because after graduating from this school, we can get a certificate for advance level magic.”
Folia: “I see.”
In this country, you would need to go through procedures at the government offices in order to own magic stone. Ordinary citizen could only use beginner level to intermediate level magic. Advance level magic required a license.
Considering that the students here already knew their skill specialty, most likely they have already been taught on how to use the magic stone for beginner level by their excellent parents or tutor. Due to these circumstances, the student could obtain license for advance level once they completed their studies in this academy.
Well, in my case, I already have special level license. Of course, there was no soldier who couldn’t use magic stone. Razé already obtained her license. In fact, she should be the one who knew the most about magic stone among the people in the academy. After all, she was the ace of the Shian Imperial Army. Since a colonel must be someone who can use special level magic, Razé had obtained all types of licenses.
Razé: “Let’s do our best starting from tomorrow.”
Folia: “Un. Let’s do our best. Sorry, I’m going to sleep first. The star tonight was shining brightly. I’m supposed to sleep early on such day.”
Razé: “I see. Good night, see you tomorrow.”
Folia: “Un. May the light of the stars lead you to a good dream.”
Folia snuggled under her quilt. Razé closed the curtain in the middle partition to prevent light from leaking. By the way, the letter that Folia mentioned earlier would be written tomorrow morning. Folia always woke up at 5am, so Razé asked her to wake her up if she overslept.
Once Razé finished writing her diary, she turned off the lights and quietly head to the bathhouse. Sure enough, there was no one there. It was like she had chartered the whole place.
“Aa-. This feels so nice.” She submerged her body in the large bath. Because the bath was a hot spring, it made her warm from the inside. It was very relaxing, her own sweet time. When she was working, she couldn’t get a proper vacation, so this felt almost like a vacation. She did go to a military university to study war, but this was a magic academy where the aristocratic children gathered. It was like a city of flowers.
“Carna-sama is with the prince. And Folia is with the Cardinal who is older than her.”
For Razé, speaking of youth would remind her of love. She did feel embarrassed for having such a happy-go-lucky way of thinking, but it can’t be helped because she would get curious. There was absolutely nothing wrong for being a curious person. She wanted to make sure to play her role to watched over them.
She avoided staying in the bath too long. She changed into nightwear and returned to her room.
The first day was over. Raze curled up in her bed.
