Chapter 229 227- Pick Up Where You Left Off

Despite Ling Xia’s words the figure remained silent.

‘How could she sense me? I wasn’t doing anything for her to notice me. Maybe she just has an inkling and isn’t really sure of my presence, right? Are her senses really that sharp? Wait no, her senses have always been sharp, she might have actually sensed me!’

As soon as the figure finished his thought process panic ensued.

Ling Xia not getting a response got slightly upset and said.

“I don’t appreciate being secretly guarded and you can tell my brother I don’t need it!”

The figure hearing this froze.

After a slight pause, he said.

“...I was only doing what I was told, I have no ill intent towards the Young Lady.”

Hearing the figure’s distorted voice, Ling Xia frowned.

“You can carry out your orders without spying on me in secret. If anything it makes you look like a weirdo.”

The figure hesitated upon hearing her, it wasn’t his intention to trick her, however…

A moment later, the figure’s body could be seen leaping out of the tree to land inside the courtyard.

Seeing this person's appearance Ling Xia approached while asking.

“Why are you hiding your appearance?”

“Ah wait no!”

Ling Xia went to lift up the veil but the figure quickly grabbed her hand.

However, feeling Ling Xia’s soft hands in his own the figure quickly let her go and took a step back.

Seeing his overaction Ling Xia became curious.

“You’re strange, why so secretive?”

“I apologize to the Young Lady, but I’d like to keep my face hidden.”

“Why? I want to know if your a male or female.”

The figure paused for a moment before saying.

“I’m male.”

“Male? Then do you know secretly watching a girl without her knowing is inappropriate? I don’t care if it was my brother that put you up to it or not.”

“…”

“What’s your name?”

“...I’m sorry Young Lady, I’ll have to keep that a secret as well.”

A frown appeared on Ling Xia's face again before she said.

“Is this some new method my brother come up with so I don’t sneak off again? Even with my current cultivation he still thinks it’s okay to be so overprotective of me, it’s ridiculous!”

As Ling Xia suddenly went on a rant complaining about her brother’s overprotective nature, the figure listen before he said after a moment.

“I think your right.”

Ling Xia froze at that. Turning to the figure she asked.

“You do?”

The figure’s hat shook as he nodded his head.

“You're old enough to make your own choices, I don’t see why it’s a problem.”

The figure also shrug his shoulders as he spoke.

Ling Xia stood there staring not really knowing what to say.

A small smile appeared on her lips, however, a downcast expression slowly took over her face.

“I know the problem.”

Ling Xia then held her forearm and seemed lost in her thoughts.

The figure suddenly asked.

“Why exactly is he keeping you trapped here?”

Ling Xia open her mouth to say reply, but her brows suddenly came together. Looking at the figure with a doubtful expression she asked.

“Why do you want to know the reason for that, your job is only to watch me not ask such questions.”

The figure shrugged.

“I just think what your brother is doing is wrong… uh… even if I have to heed his words to watch you.”

Ling Xia’s expression turned slightly angry upon hearing that.

“Don’t talk about my brother like that.”

Without much thought the figure instantly replied.

“Even when he’s treating you like a caged animal you can still stand up for him?”

Ling Xia bit her lip, but still firmly said.

“His actions are inherently done with good intentions, and plus you have no idea the amount of pressure is on his shoulders and why he chose to be so overprotective of me.”

“Then tell me.”

Ling Xia look more closely at this figure hiding his appearance and the curiosity rose further in her heart. She stepped forward.

“Who are you?”

The figure stepped back.

“Huh? What do you mean? I was sent here to watch you.”

Ling Xia shook her head.

“You seem familiar for some reason.”

The figure’s hidden face stiffen upon hearing that and he hurriedly said.

“I assure the Young Miss I’m not.”

Ling Xia moved forward while the figure stepped back.

Suddenly, Ling Xia’s Soul Sense extended out without warning.

As it envelop the figure to see his real appearance his hat and his clothes, however, suddenly lit up with runes before her Soul Sense was repelled.

The rebound of her Soul Sense was strong and her face immediately turned pale.

Seeing this, the figure looked panicked as he hurriedly came up to her.

“A-Are you okay? I didn’t know you would do that, I would have warned you in advance.”

Ling Xia held up her hand to stop him before she said.

“I’m fine.”

She then composed herself and her eyes landed on his hat and clothes.

“Your clothes and hat are made from a strange material that blocks my Soul Sense, and it’s amplified by those runes inscriptions. A Core Formation Realm Cultivator wouldn’t be able to penetrate it. Even a Nascent Realm cultivator might have a hard time seeing your identity. Just who are you?”

Ling Xia looked at the mesh, her burning curiosity towards his face behind it was increasing steadily.

“Since you can’t tell me your secret I can’t tell you mine.”

Hearing that, Ling Xia got angry and said.

“That’s not the same.”

“Yes, it is.”

Despite the figure’s distorted voice, Ling Xia could still hear the amusement in it. He even laughed a bit.

Ling Xia's expression turned sour, but a devious smirk suddenly appeared at the corner of her lips.

Without any warning, she suddenly appeared in front of the figure. Even as another version of her was still in the same position a few feet away.

Her hand lifted up the mesh and she looked at the figure’s face.

A smug expression was present on hers, but as she met the figure's ruby red eyes she froze.

“...Yang Su?”

Yang Su was caught off guard by Ling Xia’s movement technique, and he met her eyes with a frozen expression.

Ling Xia’s face soon turned cold and she let her hand drop.

Without saying anything she immediately turned around to walk away.

Seeing this, Yang Su took off the hat and hurried after her.

“Wait! Ling Xia, I-”

However, he was cut off as Ling Xia aimed a sword she got from who knows where at his neck, forcing him to dodge.

“Don’t come near me you liar!”

She said before she spun around, her sword disappearing.

Yang Su held his neck to make sure it was still attached to his body before he said.

“What do you mean I’m a liar? I never lied to you before!”

Yang Su paused his steps towards her once more when she turned back to him again, but with no sword this time.

“You aren’t a liar? Didn’t you say you weren't going to give up on me?”

Yang Su went to speak but was cut off by Ling Xia again.

“But what did you do? You disappeared! And now what, you show up nearly three years later thinking you can pick up where you left off? Am I a joke to you?”

Ling Xia got a bit emotional and Yang Su could hear it in her voice.
