Chapter 335 332- The Baby In The Fire

Carnage.

Women and children were seen running for their dear lives. Husbands and the men of the village desperately tried to protect their backs as they fled.

But with their pitchforks and shovels, what could they as mortals possibly do against these mighty cultivators? They could only be slaughtered in their homes while wondering what these lofty cultivators could gain from doing such a thing.

Though that was just their naïve way of thinking.

Why do they need a reason?

“ARGHHH!!!”

A blood-curdling scream echoed above the others.

A man with a missing arm could be seen clutching the stump that was spurting blood nonstop. It was a gruesome sight.

The young man stood over him while holding a saber dripping with blood. He wore an expressionless face, but there was no mistake that while he watched the man bled out, there was a gleam of excitement in his eyes.

The young man had long black hair with an ordinary appearance. He wore blood-red robes but it wasn’t certain where those red robes started, and where the blood from the numerous villagers he killed began. They were indistinguishable at this point.

The young man soon stepped over the mutilated middle-aged man to enter the home he was guarding.

However, his leg was suddenly grabbed by the middle age man’s remaining hand.

“N-no, you mustn’t. W-Why are you doing this t-to our village? We’ve done n-nothing wrong. W-What could you p-possible accomplish from murdering us in m-mass?”

The middle age man’s face was pale and he barely manage to force out those words. All while he spoke, he gripped the young man’s foot with a deathly grip, as if he was holding onto the last strand of his life.

The young man was slightly surprised by this middle ag man's strength for a moral. He could easily escape the middle age man's hold and continued, but he choose to pause and turned to look down at the middle age man.

His eyes were filled with derision as he asked.

“You want to know what you did wrong, and why we’re doing this?”

The young man didn't wait for the middle age man to speak, but it wasn't like he could when his life was slowly slipping away. The young man then said.

“You’re weak village was chosen randomly by our elders to be our training grounds. It's just you’re bad luck to be chosen.”

The middle age man coughed out a mouth full of blood and his hand slacked as he died from blood loss. It was unsure whether he coughed out the blood due to his wounds or because of the overwhelming amount of anger and indignation he felt upon hearing this young man’s ridiculous reason for his village being destroyed, and his family and friends being massacred.

Randomly chosen? Was their lives that meaningless and insignificant to these people?

Even as he died, the middle age man’s eyes were wide open. Staring at the youth with so much hatred, it could have turned tangible given more time.

But just before dying, an unnoticeable flicker of worry and dread flashed past his eyes when he glance at the house.

The young man ignored the middle age man’s hatred-filled eyes. If he wanted to become a vengeful ghost and haunt him from the afterlife, then the young man welcome it. He would just turn him into one of his many vengeful souls he refined using his Slaughter Demonic Sect's Forbidden Refining Soul Arts.

The young man soon turned around and enter the home. His saber in his hand left a trail of blood droplets on the floor as he walked around the house.

It was a small family home, so he quickly went throw all the rooms. Only when he reached the kitchen that he stopped.

His emotionless eyes landed on the woman sitting on some sort of chest. The young man moved towards her, but as he did, he lifted one of his brows in reaction to the woman’s unresponsiveness to his presence.

As he slowly approached the woman, the woman only stared at him as he came closer.

The woman looked calm on the surface, but her heart was pounding in her chest. Her eyes couldn’t help but glance at the small marker on the floor that was ten meters away from her.

Just as the young man was about to cross that marker, his steps suddenly paused.

The woman immediately felt her heart drop to the pit of her stomach.

She looked at the young man and he saw an amused expression on his face.

“From the looks of it you want me to approach you, your eyes keep glancing at this marker.”

The woman’s face paled, but she still remain silent.

The young man's eyes wandered around the room before coming back to land on the woman.

In the Demonic Cult, there were all sorts of people.

The bloodthirsty.

The cunning.

The heartless.

And the cruelty-driven people who just kill mortals for sport.

But what they all have in common, is that they saw mortals as nothing but weak ants they could step on and kill at any moment.

This young man was no different.

Despite feeling something was up with this woman, and despite seeing her clutching something in her hand, he didn’t put her useless efforts in his eyes.

Anything she did would be useless in front of him. She was just an ordinary mortal with not an ounce of spirituality coming from her.

Without hesitation, the young man stepped across the ten-meter marker, a ridiculing expression on his face as he looked at the woman.

The woman seeing this, felt relief wash over her heart. Without hesitation, she squeezed the jade slip in her hand.

However, the young man felt a wave of terror wash over him and he suddenly vanished. He easily crossed the ten-meter mark and grabbed the woman’s hand in a hurry.

“Ah!”

The woman cried out as her hand was twisted by the young man before she could fully crack the jade slip.

The young man looked at the jade slip in her hand, and his heart let out a loud thump.

The energy that was leaking out of the cracks of this jade slip was that of a late Core Formation Realm cultivator. He was merely a Second Phase Sea Expansion Realm cultivator. If he hadn’t reacted quickly, then the Sword Qi in this jade slip would have sliced him in two.

The reason why the woman needed him to enter the ten-meter mark, was so it didn’t miss him as she had no Soul Sense to control the Sword Qi.

Pitua!

The young man stabbed his saber through this woman’s stomach.

“How dare a mere mortal try to plot against me?”

The young man was enraged by that fact, and at the same time because he almost died right here.

Dying to a mortal's schemes, he would never be able to rest peacefully as even in death his anger would reach the nine heavens from the depths of the underworld.

Blood seeped from the woman’s mouth, and regret filled her heart.

The young man sneered before twisting the saber. The woman’s internal organs were completely obliterated, and the light faded from her eyes as she fell to the ground with a thud.

The young man pulled out his saber before he placed the jade slip into his storage bag at his side. He didn’t expect to receive such a life-saving treasure on this uneventful excursion.

His mood was so good that he ignored the chest the woman was sitting on, and turned to leave the house. However, just before leaving, he formed a hand seal and pointed into the house.

A soul fire shot from his finger and lit a curtain on fire.

The fire didn’t act like a normal fire and in an instant, it spread to cover the entire house in no time.

The faint muffled cries of a baby could be heard coming from inside the house, but it was drowned out by the crackling flames and collapsing ceiling.

The young man laughed and then left the house, but just before he left the yard completely, he suddenly frowned.

He saw another young man in the same red robes as him running away with a terror stricken face. Not even a second later a Sword Qi flashed and beheaded him.

The young man’s expression changed, and without any hesitation, he turned and leaped over the wall separating this yard from the next.

Just as he leaped up, his scalp tingled and a sensation of death washed over him. His body twisted as he tried to dodge the Sword Qi but it followed him and easily severed his neck.

Blood spurted from his headless corpse, creating a pool of blood under his body on the ground.

An old man in ragged clothes, that looked around his late sixties, suddenly appeared by the youth’s side. He carried two sword on his back.

He bent down and picked up the jade slip from the young man’s hand.

The young man had wanted to use this life-saving treasure to preserve his life, but that terrifying Sword Qi didn’t give him a chance.

The old man held the jade slip in his hand and feeling the familiar Spiritual Imprint, he sighed.

“I was too late, curse these Demonic Cultivators.”

The hatred in the old man’s voice was palpable.

The old man approached the middle age man and seeing the unwillingness and hatred in his eyes, the old man couldn’t help but let out another sigh of regret.

This old man was a rogue cultivator that had passed through this mortal village once a long time ago. He had met this middle age man when he was a young boy and was surprised that a mortal village had produced someone with an Earth-grade innate talent.

It was a pity the circumstance wasn’t right at the time, so the old man could not take the boy as his disciple.

After closing the middle age man’s eyes, the old man turned to the burning house and used his Soul Sense to sweep out to scan it.

He wasn’t expecting much and was only doing so casually.

Seeing the woman’s corpse, the old man figured as much and went to retract his Soul Sense. However, his Soul Sense happened to sweep across the chest the woman had been sitting on and he let out an exclamation of surprise.

The old man suddenly rose into the air and landed inside the burning house.

Soon after, he came out with a baby in his hands.
