I carefully spread Roa’s magic cloth. Rose, being helpful as always, creeps its vines from the floor in front of me and creates a new workbench, where I place the magic cloth. Rose also wraps its vines around the magic element tester in the other workbench and brings it to me. This device serves to send out weak magic elements to perform exams.
I lightly tap Rose’s vine as a way of saying thank you, and it responds by wriggling before quickly going back into the ground.
Humble as always, Rose.
I check the set magic stone, and find no issues. I think this is the supply of magic elements.
After softly touching the magic item with the palm of my hand, I attach the magic element tester’s cord on the eye pattern drawn in the middle, which is right in the middle of Roa’s brow when she’s wearing the cloth. Magic items that are meant to be worn over one’s face usually have their supply of magic elements right here.
I grab a pendulum with my left hand, the same I used when I was scanning for magic elements in my investigation of the disease spreading throughout the camp. While operating the magic element tester with my right hand, I move the pendulum with my left hand just low enough for its tip to not touch the cloth.
The structure of this magic item is pretty simple. This is the buffer, this is the amplifier, this is the noise canceler… Hmm… Wait, isn’t this kind of pointless? There’s plenty of room to remodel it on a functional level. The build itself is very thorough, and the magic circuit inside it was burned with a good solution, but…
My examination ends quickly, and I ponder what to do.
It seems the alchemist that made this is at best second rate. I could combine multiple magic circuits I already have and make something that’s functionally better right away.
Still, it’s very carefully made. I can even feel the love whoever made it feels for Roa. Whoever made it must be close to Ahri and Roa.
I’m a bit conflicted. I don’t know how much I should tell. I peek over to them, and see Roa has calmed down. Then I realize something.
I see… Could it be that the psychological factor is very important? The sense of security it gives Roa could be more effective at helping her control her special powers than the actual function of the item. That could very well be it.
I turn around and face them.
“All right. Can I examine Roa? Ahri, can you put this magic item back on Roa’s face?”
I ask while handing the magic item I finished examining to Ahri, and Roa’s face is once again hidden behind the cloth.
“《Release Seal》.”
I stop the scroll. Ahri takes it off Roa’s face and hands it to me. I look at it, and then glance at Ahri.
I guess it’s just a whim, but I feel like doing this.
“Give me your hand, Roa.”
“Yes.”
I place the scroll on Roa’s hand, and cover it with my own.
“《Activate Sharing Protocol》. Activate managing authority, 《Transfer》 Rust, 《Target》 Roa. 《Authority Transfer》 sealing scroll. 《End Protocol》.”
I lift my hand and talk to Roa.
“I have a few of those scrolls, so you can have that one.”
Roa is silent, and faces down all of a sudden.
Ah, oh no, is this bad…
“Thank you.”
Says Roa very quietly, although I still hear it very well.
