Rihalzam was not used to moving with his lower half turned into myxomycete, and his upper body swayed left to right while he staggered forward. His survival instincts led him to get away from the place where he was showered with the voices of people wanting to kill him.
It was then that a voice echoed inside his mind.
“Ding-dong. Confirmed rebirth and evolution of control specimen M-d3152669. Searching for access key. Access complete. Scanning behavior prior to rebirth. Scanning. Scanning.”
“W-who? What… Doing…”
Rihalzam tried to talk to the voice inside his head, but it continued on without acknowledging him.
“Scan complete. Using control specimen number M-d3152669’s behavior and mentality as a basis and granting title and skills.”
“Skill? What… Is… That…”
“Ding-dong. Insatiable thirst for power and ruthless tenacity detected. Title ‘Possible Demon King’ granted. Skill ‘Surpass Learning Potential’ granted.”
“D-demon… King…”
Rihalzam’s human eyes opened wide.
And then, bullets of magic elements hit his mushroom body.
The small impact of the multiple shots made him slant slightly, but the magic elements were absorbed by his body and did little damage.
“Stop firing the magic guns. Hm, it’s just like the report said, that really is a demon. No doubt about it, if bullets of magic elements don’t work. Good grief. We had too few people to deal with this as it is, and it turns out it’s something this big.”
The shots came from a group of soldiers. The voice of one of them, a pale man, reached Rihalzam’s ears.
“Should we charge in, captain Harold?”
“That’s acting captain. The report said those spores are poison. I brought all the magic circuits to change elements that were left. We will equip them and fire in one volley.”
“Yes sir!”
Rihalzam realized he was in danger, and desperately tried to move away, but his movements were very clumsy.
He was then hit by some fire bullets shot from magic guns, but not many. It appeared some of them malfunctioned and left the soldiers who fired them with burned eyebrows.
Still, some did hit Rihalzam and burned his body.
“Gya, a, a… H-o-tttt…”
It seemed his mushroom body burned easily.
He fell to the ground, and the voice in his head continued speaking.
“Ding-dong. Burning jealousy originating from lack of talent detected. Skill ‘Fire Resistance’ granted.”
Rihalzam’s mushroom body was fired upon again, but this time the fire disappeared as it hit its target.
“Ah?”
Rihalzam looked at his own body with surprise.
The soldiers were thrown off by something they did not expect, and stopped firing.
The voice disregarded everything and continued.
“Sadism towards those who are weaker detected. Skill ‘Tyrant’ granted. Endless unwarranted resentment detected. Skill ‘Piercing Resistance’ granted.”
Rihalzam saw a chance and rushed to get away.
“Captain Harold!”
Yelled someone who appeared to be his subordinate.
“I see it! We have no choice. Everyone unsheathe your swords and charge!”
The soldiers prepared to charge towards Rihalzam with swords in hand, while he struggled to move his myxomycete lower body.
“Ding-dong. Involvement in dirty work detected. Skill ‘Complete Myxomycete Conversion’ granted. Adjustments of rebirth evolution concluded. Processing complete.”
Rihalzam’s movements suddenly became better, just as the swords drew near.
Suddenly, his mushroom body melted as if being sucked into the lower half.
His entire body was now myxomycete. He dodged the swords in this form, and spotted a sewage gutter.
He escaped to this gutter in his myxomycete form without hesitation.
