“Can you see that over there? That’s one of the prospects.”
I look to where Roa is pointing, and see some buildings that look like ruins.
Kalin asked us to search for possible sites for a new town, but we’re not just wandering around her dominion aimlessly. She didn’t explain this, but Ahri and Roa actually scouted a few locations before, and the idea is for us to go check them out.
I turn around, and Roa tells me she can see one of them.
Three people riding Hipopo would be too cramped, so I reworked the 《Composite》 scroll to summon two Hipopo brothers, so Taula and Roa each ride one.
“Understood. So should we just keep going forward?”
I ask while looking back at them.
Roa looks full of energy for some reason. She named the Hipopo brother she’s riding right away, and isn’t having any trouble riding it.
Taula on the other hand looks a bit awkward. She’s a knight, but I don’t think knight priests like her ride beasts into battle.
Before I know it, we enter the ruins. I say ruins, but there aren’t that many buildings. There are plenty of stone walls though.
And since we are in a remote region, and there is a high concentration of magic elements in places like these, there hasn’t been a lot of encroachment by vegetation, and the stone pavements are almost perfectly intact. The sound of Hipopo and the others’ footsteps echo as we progress.
“I think we could reuse things like the parts of the road around here that have been leveled.”
“And it’s near the sea, but just outside of merman territory.”
Adds Roa.
“So?”
“Hm… It’s actually strange that there aren’t any monsters living in ruins like these. We have to look around and figure out why that is. Other than that, I think it’s pretty good.”
I say while looking around.
“And apparently Lady Kalin is after the sea.”
Says Roa.
“I guess so.”
“After the sea?”
Asks Taula.
“Kalin wants to have a base on the coastline in the future. Producing salt and having a port are very attractive ideas.”
“But the sea here is home to demons and mermen, you know?”
“Well, she is known as a demon slayer.”
I say while smiling awkwardly.
I can already see myself being asked to do something unreasonable in the future.
“Hm, I see. So you need a beachhead for that reason. So, what will you do now?”
“First we need to establish a base to carry out our investigations. That building over there will do just fine.”
I say while pointing to a building that’s in relatively good shape with walls and ceiling.
